The charge came and she braced herself for impact. She was forced to take a step back when the sword stuck against the shield she defensively held in front of her. The shield was tilted her arm crumpling almost under the force of it. She was far from use to holding her ground, but in time she knew she would improve. She had to. Her chest heaved, her shoulders sagging. Fallon knew she had to keep going, she knew she had to keep this up for as long as possible. Or at least until her opponent buckled. The jab forced her both back and to one side, the shield forced into a tilt as she pulled back and away.

But, he did not stop. Another blow came, hurtling down her thoughts to get out of the way instead of trying to endure the blow. Breaths quickened, her shoulders slumping slightly whilst her eyes remained fixed. One moment he seemed to lose speed, the next he gained it all back. The pommel thrusted towards her, the heavy weight making contact with her side, before once more he drew back waiting for her own attack. Fallon puffed her cheeks, feeling the thin line of sweat that had begun to form.

She gave a long pause, eyes drifting towards the tip that hovered and teased before her at the neckline. She exhaled, her lips wetting slightly. The squire knew what she wanted to do, but it was doing it that was the issue. A want to end this bout was now dawning on her. She gave a swallow, leaning back on her rear foot and letting her weight rest on it. Speed was needed, a block to allow her to slide in close and destroy the gap between them. The only issue is that he had reach where she did not. Her neck gave a click, the jaw tightening.

Here goes nothing!

Fallon threw her weight onto her front foot, forcing the shift of movement into momentum. The shield came forward, the tip of the tulwar back as she focused on closing the gap. A full blown charge designed to bring this to a close. Her intention was to bash him or his weapon to one side, brute force to create an opening. From there she would bring the flat of the blade round to strike it against him. She planted her feet down upon the ground, torso twisting as she brought it round.

Sei watched as she stumbled back a little after he had thrust the pommel of his longsword into Fallon's side. He was about to jump forward, but delayed himself while watching her. He was definitely struggling. Mainly because he had no experience with a sword. He was breathing roughly, and his clothing clung to him as he continued to sweat. He tried to calm himself, but he couldn't take his eyes of the woman without worrying about getting hit.

Sei blew out a puff of air, and waited for the woman to strike. He had many thoughts racing in his mind, and the one that bothered hims the most was why he could keep up with her. The woman was swift, and she had managed to dodge so many times, but he'd occasionally get in a hit. The same could be said about him.

Sei was wrapped in thought, but snapped back into focus as Fallon charged. She shifted her weight, and held out her shield with her Tulwar not far behind. He tried to bring his sword up to dodge, but the sheer force of the shield knocked it out of his hand, and he jumped back. "You win already!" He callled.

The squire heard his call and the give of the fight.

Fallon gave a stagger followed by a stumble. The sword was ripped free, but she kept on going. Momentum pulled her passed the man, her shoulder dipping as she went with a trip and crashed to the ground in a heap. There was a clatter as she struck it, shoulders drooping, her arms reduced to little more than heavy weights. Hands planted themselves down on the ground, the feeling of sweat resting around her collar. Fingers released the Tulwar and then fumbled for the shield straps around her arm. Petch she ached.

She gave a wince, brow creasing as she eased herself back onto her haunches and then down to the ground. Her pulse was still roaring, her adrenal still remaining high as she took in long deep breaths. Dizziness took hold as her energy dipped sharply, arms shaking as she tried to keep some focus. The squire gave a look to Sei, a half smile to herself with a cocked thumb.

It was the first time she had managed to beat an opponent. Sure, it was nothing more than a spar between novices, but she had beaten someone for once. No longer forced to bow and buckle beneath a brute of an opponent. She gave a slow, steady nod to Sei, brow creasing as she composed herself. It was a sharp and sudden stop after all. Brushing the dirt off she spoke, “That was good. Really good. Got the blood pumping.”

Holding the Tulwar before her she studied the flat side before shimmying the scabbard around for her to return the blade. She gave a heave, pushing herself up before extending a hand to Sei with a curl of the lips, “Thank you. Good spar,” there was a pause followed a shrug, “Seems you’re a natural learner.”

After admitting defeat, Sei watched as Fallon flew past him, and collapsed to the ground. She stayed on the ground for a bit, and collected herself before dropping her shield and tulwar. She stood and extended her hand, and gave Sei a small smile. Dropped his long sword, and forced up his arm so he could shake her hand. "Glad I could spar with you." He said, playing a happy smile. He then forced his legs to move to his rucksack.

His legs felt like lead, and the more he moved, the heavier they felt. He could still feel mini spasms in his arms, and he was still soaked to the bone in sweat. His clothing clung to him, and he knew Fallon was probably feeling the same. For a moment, his vision blurred, and he could have collapsed. He reached into his rucksack, and grabbed his waterskin. He uncorked the top, and drank the water steadily. He looked over at Fallon, and decided to offer her a drink.

"Here." He said, walking over to her. He handed her the waterskin, and smiled. He was a bit more refreshed, and hopefully Fallon might feel better as well.

It was fingers that gave a firm tug at her shirt, worming their way beneath the collar to allow the hot air a route to escape. She gave it a shake, head rolling back as she took in the cooler, autumn air. In the summer she would not have been able to keep it going, she knew that. And in turn this gave the nagging thought on what was needed to be improved on. Fighting in heat and maintaining the stamina was necessary after all. She gave a puff, a firm shake of the hand, before she continued focusing on inhaling deeply.

Or at least until the waterskin was thrusted in her direction. She gave a blurry gaze at it, her brow creasing before she reached out and grabbed it, lips managed to find the opening in it. There was a long hearty slurp, the glug of cold liquid before she pulled away and focused on sealing it shut once more. From there, she continued to slosh the water about her mouth and then finally swallowed. There was an exhale as she returned it, a nod in thanks. She took a strong grasp around the shield strap, hoisting it up and over so the broad sheet of metal rested across her back. Cocking her thumb the squire looked about the pit and to the few occasional glances from on lookers. There was the curl of the lip, “Thanks, needed that.”

There was a pause as she stretched out her arms, twisting the limbs gently as she willed the strain to calm. She gave it a rub, fingers massaging at the flesh as she gave a nod to Sei, “So, what now? Another go? Or are you alright for now?” She was not going to push it, there was no need to. Besides she had to focus on her training and other skills as much as possible, right? Her focus that kept on pushing her onwards, “Don’t feel you have to. There’s no need after all.”

Sei took back the waterskin, and placed it back in his rucksack. He had still wanted to have another round, but he was short on time. He shook his head and spoke. "It seems I'm at a loss of time. As much as I'd like another round, I need to be on my way." He was smiling, and had packed up all his belongings. It was time for him to move on, so another round would have to wait.

He looked at the sun, and back at Fallon. "By the way, thanks for the pointers." He said with a bright expression. He turned to leave, and waved his goodbyes.

Notes :
Sei. I love how your posts are composed much better and appropriately played to his skill level and knowledge.

by the looks of it she wasn't that skilled

Well, Sei is a novice as well. I'm not sure that when you write it, you really think Sei is more skilled than Fallon or just plain smugness on his part. I hope it's the latter as that means you OOC-ly realize Sei's skill. He may act arrogant but his skills are still a novice and he should fight like one.

I see you describe his difficulties as a novice swordsman, good, please, please keep this up. :)

And how can he know Fallon was a squire just by her wielding a blade? Even non-squires and non-knights can wield a blade unless Fallon is wearing her armor lent to her by the Knights, he wouldn't know.

Fallon, great job and posts, as always. :)
