Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Croduth on October 9th, 2013, 5:42 pm

The thick soles of Croduth's feet made fat slapping noises against the pathway as he walked up to Riverfall's Labor Office. His mangy fur barely rustling in the wind - static, sticky and evidence that the Jamoura's feet had taken him a long way indeed.

He stretched a lanky arm up to his head and gently scratched it as he absorbed his surroundings.

Before him lay a path that stretched the length of a highly disciplined lawn. Neat rows of plants lined an arrangement of perfectly uniform and meticulously maintained strands of grass, all lined up and manicured in what Croduth believed the people of Riverfall referred to as a lawn.

Lost in thought, Croduth barely noticed how quickly the Labor Office was approaching him. Had he not been concentrating so hard on where exactly the rest of this claustrophobic looking piece of unbreathing architecture was - he may have noticed that the visible portion was rather close to his nose.

Of course his eyes didn't see this before his soft, leathery nose smacked hard against the amber wood of the door. Splashes of his scarlet blood slid quickly down the veneer of this heavy looking door.

As red as a Jamoura's face could be, Croduth's had become. However, with his gentle fist held against his nose to stem the flow of blood, the strange azure Akalak attending the large wooden desk in the center of the room would barely notice the embarrassment that burnt upon the Jamoura's cheeks.

Though, he would certainly see a good deal of blood, crawling across the ebon fur of Croduth's forearm.

"Croduth-" The Jamoura grunted, "-need job." thumbing his barrel chest with his spare hand.

The Akalak behind the grand oak desk separating the two merely raised an eyebrow at the ape and asked, "Can you write?"

"Yes." He drew a long, deep breath, exhaling slowly through his teeth in an attempt to alleviate the pain that pulsed from his squishy little broken nose. "Croduth. Speak bad, but, write-" he grinned, "-better!" The excitement of his voice cracked the still air of that room. His booming laugh resonating up through the spiral staircase, out past the windows of the third level and into the trees beyond.

"Please, fill out this form." The cerulean caretaker carefully commanded. Handing the man a piece of parchment will all pertinent details possible.

Twisting his head off to the left and peering over the fist that he still held to his no longer bleeding nose, Croduth penned in all the details that came to mind quicker than the Akalak could read a page of his book.

The Jamoura handed the slip to the Akalak, his grin bearing the fine rows of sharp fangs that his now blood soaked cheeks hid.

"You, I hope will have a good day." He said, with an exaggerated nod and a haphazard sort of pirouette on one of his heels, 180° in the opposite direction. Lumbering out as he stood on tiptoes so that he would have to duck his head under the door, tapping at it with his fingertips as he did so.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Magpie on October 10th, 2013, 7:05 pm

OOC Notes :
We had a couple people this round who I wasn't really sure what job to suggest... If you don't like any of the suggestions given, please feel free to let Malin know and we can work out something else.

Noha:

Malin had seen enough Pycons coming through the city that they weren't much of a shock anymore, but it was still surprising to see one make it through the door. There seemed to be more of them than usual in town, though he wasn't sure if that was just his imagination.

He tried not to stare as the tiny, buxom woman filled out the form, moving over it with surprising dexterity. Clearing his throat once as he took it back, he looked it over.

"Geology..." He said softly, immediately wishing he could have sent her out to the gem mines. They were quite far out of town though, and he doubted the Cerulean that patrolled the area would think twice about tossing the poor girl into the Bluevein for kicks. Several more options ran through Malin's mind as he considered the application, each quickly dismissed with account to her size.

"Hmm, ok, I've got two options for you." He pulled out a pamphlet for Valreig's Gem Shop and laid it flat in front of her. "Valreig could use a pair of small hands for keeping the gems organized, though you'd only be employed as a clerk. If you wanted to learn the gemcutting trade," Something he doubted, given her size, but he supposed it was possible. "You'd have to do some training to be able to move up. Clerks make 3gm a day there. We actually just sent a new gemcutter up there, Koa Pond, so you may want to talk to him if you're going to apply."

Shifting the pamphlet to the side, he pulled out a familiar - to him, anyway - folded leaflet and spread it out on the desk. "Another option is applying for the Antiquities Society. You'll have plenty of work examining rocks and various archaeological finds, but entry into the Society is 50gm a year. However, you do get paid a little better, 6gm a day. What do you say?"

Claire:

With the Pycon squared away, Malin looked up at the next person. A pretty human girl, and he smiled up at her as she returned her forms.

"For housing... If you're looking for something private, you can't beat a personal cottage. 400 square feet, comes furnished. The housing developments are great for people who like being around others, but you can't beat the privacy of a cottage." He passed over the desk a pamphlet listing the available cottage locations before turning to the employment form.

"The adventurous type, hm?" He didn't immediately think of any jobs that would require swordfighting and reimancy, but he shuffled through the employment pamphlets at his right. "Let me see here... If you're willing to learn the art of kite-making, Windsinger Kites would love to have a wind reimancer around, though they'd likely keep you on the books as a clerk for 3gm a day. Acrobatics, hmmm... If you have any inclination to be one stage, you may want to apply to the Amphitheatre, and try out for the Acrobatics group? Your sword skills may come in handy there; I hear their plays have some big fight scenes. They pay for actors is about 4gm a day. If you decide on the Amphitheatre, you may want to talk to Jorin, Krima, or Alia; they've all started there within the last season or so. So, what do you say?"

Groth:

Malix usually saw a larger variety of people than the average citizen, as all people in the city, rich or poor, Akalak or not, had to come by at some point to find work. It had been a long time since he'd seen a Jamoura walk through his doors though, and his expression was appropriately surprised.

Taking back the form he looked over it slowly. There was a wide variety of skills, and it was difficult to decide which one to go on. Jamoura were supposed to be smart - maybe something at the Academy? Cooking...perhaps a kitchen? But there was the matter of fur...

"Let me give you a couple options..." He said slowly, pulling a couple pamphlets from the stack to his right. "If you can keep things organized, the Raven's Perch could use a knowledgable head around to help run things. The Valkalah Library is looking for the same position, though there's more busy work there and less conversing with the patrons, if you're not the social type. Fresh Start Resort is also an option, if you'd be interested in more healing-type work." Laying the three pamphlets on the desk in front of him, he indicated the Raven's Perch first. "At the library and Raven's Perch, you'd be on the books as a clerk, making 3gm a day.. At the Resort, you'd be there specifically as a herbalist, making 6gm a day. A bit more money, but it depends on the kind of work you're looking for. What do you say?"

Croduth:

There was a large pound against the door outside and Malix stood halfway out of his chair, wondering if he should go see what happened. It wasn't out of the question that a couple of his Akalak brothers were rough-housing outside and had managed to drive someone into the hard wood of the door.

The Jamoura that walked through the door was certainly not what he was expecting, and after an awkward exchange over the form, Malix resolved to simply not ask what happened to his nose. He didn't seem upset about it, so it was likely not his business. The form was handed back and before he had much time to look it over, the Jamoura was moving back towards the door. Standing up, he called across the room before his newest applicant made it out the door, "Um, yea! Just be sure to talk to Kavala when you get there, she owns the place! She'll work out your wage with you!" It was possible Kavala had already spoken to him, as the willful Konti already had a veritable army of tenants and employees. Malix sat down with a sigh, returning to his filing and waiting for the next applicant to come in.

[u]Lyn'nice[/i]:

Malix watched the Konti discreetly as she filled out the forms. She was a pretty little thing, with an energetic air about her.

When the forms were returned, as per his usual custom, he looked at the housing form first. "Cozy, hm? We've got plenty of open space around town, but you may want to check out the Pearl House - run by Kontis, you know - or Windswept Condos, you get your own garden space there. Affordable, furnished, and very nice I hear."

Putting the housing form aside to be filed, he turned then to the employment form. He already had one offer for her, as she'd be just perfect for Nakivak status, but he'd found many women liked to have another job to pass the time.

"We've got a couple positions looking for a gardner... Vyctoria's Consrevatory is one, right outside of town, and the Orchards is another, if you prefer more edible gardening. Either position would get you 4gm a day. However..." Putting the paper down, he leaned forward on his elbows. "There is another option, which you can even do in addition to a regular job. Have you considered becoming a Nakivak? Bear a child for the city and you'll be paid very handsomely. All your medical expenses are paid for, and believe me, there's no higher honor in the city. What do you say?"

Groth looked at his three options. He immediately liked the sound of all 3. After some deciding he picked up the pamphlet for the Fresh Start Resort. "Herbalism would suit me my fine my friend" said Groth. With that he took his pamphlet and headed towards the resort.

Lyn'nice shifted back and forth thinking her options "Oh... Choices, choices, choices...." She mumbled to herself. She knew the importance of women and had contemplated this for a while, "As a voluntary Nakivak, how long would my contract be before I could choose to stop? I might want to marry someday... Although if things went well I might stay longer than my contract, right?" She was honestly considering this.

"As for the others, the Pearl House sounds beautiful, and the Orchard sounds heavenly too."

Lyn'nice:

Malix perked up immediately when the young Konti seemed curious about the Nakivak program. His day suddenly seemed a whole lot brighter, and he forced himself to stay calm, lest he scare her off with his excitement.

"You start out with a single pregnancy, and after that, the terms of your status are negotiable." Just how negotiable would be up to the Oathmaster and exactly how well she took the pregnancy, but it wasn't his place to discuss terms. The Oathmaster took care of all that; all Malix had to do was get her to the tower. "The first step is visiting the Oathmaster's Tower and see Tuvos Jerusc. Nice guy, handles all the examinations and everything during your pregnancy. He'll give you an introduction to the status and talk about your contract." He gave her his best smile and stood to show her the location of the tower on the map. "Right there, next to the Gideon Arena. Just ask around if you get lost; any Akalak in the city would be happy to point it out. I'd escort you myself but, well," He spread his hands helplessly. "Then there'd be no one to watch the desk."

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Yulio was glad that this building hadn't been too far from where she had emerged out of the water. It meant she only had to follow the map in the scroll for a little bit. This was fortunate as she was having trouble reading it. She wasn't a maps person. She had watched all the land folk there for a while trying to figure out what she was supposed to do. Thus far she had figured out that people went in and they came out after a little while. She sighed and guessed she'd have to do this herself.

So hugging her backpack to her chest nervously she walked into the building. She stood off to the side for a bit and admired the architecture of the land folk. Then after watching for a bit she figured she had to go to the desk thingy. So she did and looked at the secretary there nervously.

"H-Hello." she said shakily. She listened carefully to his common then looked over the papers, ink and pen. She slowly nodded in understanding and took the papers then began to fill them out. She knew her writing in common was not so great so she filled it all out in capital letters so anyone who read it would understand what she had put down. She spent more time and focus on it than was necessary, wanting to make a good impression.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Noha on October 12th, 2013, 8:10 am

Noha peruses the first pamphlet - printed with letters the size of her hand - for one minute before pushing it aside. A clerk at a gem shop didn't seem bad at all, but the pay was rubbish. Especially in a city like Riverfall where the cost of living was higher than most. Noha was used to living in the grasslands on the backs of nomads. She wanted a job that would take her places. Somewhere she could study the why of the rocks. Why did they form that way? Where did they come from? And as a clerk in Valreig's Gem Shop, she was certain these questions would come a long time in answering...

"Another option is applying for the Antiquities Society," the Akalak said. As soon as he spread the leaflet for the Society, Noha was on her knees reading the information, using her tiny finger to follow the words. Work and study, it said. Gain funding for explorations in the name of the Society. "You'll have plenty of work examining rocks and various archaeological finds, but entry into the Society is 50gm a year. However, you do get paid a little better, 6gm a day. What do you say?"

"I say that this is where I need to work," she replies, thoughtfully tapping her sculpted lips with a finger while her other hand smoothed the paper aside. "Who do I talk to in order to apply?"

Ilax left his cottage and walked through his hometown with a determined look on his face, he was going to get a job. As he neared the building he started to become nervous "What if you don't get one" whispered Lothar (his dark soul) Ilax tried to ignore the words but felt the knots in his stomach "Shut up Lothar" He muttered.

He walked through the door to the Labour Aid Office trying to partray confidence as he approched the desk and eyed the malin or maxil "Hi" Ilax said glad his voice didn't tremble "I've come for the employment form please". Malin or Maxil looked at him for a few seconds while Ilax tried to keep his confidence under the cool gaze "Fill these out please" Malin or Maxil said handing Ilax two forms.

Ilax looked down at the form and read it carefully before moving away to a table "See not that hard Lothar" He whispered

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Alister Val'Tec on October 16th, 2013, 9:02 pm

"Ugh its been way too long since iv been in a city" Alister moaned to himself as he walked down the stone street of Riverfall. After flying down to the outskirts of the city and changing into his basic clothes and clasping his long black cape to his shoulders he was met my some rather polite guardsmen at the gate. He told them he would be looking for employment and housing in the city and they directed him to the Citizen and labor aid office. That was a few hours ago and he managed to get lost within the first few minutes. Everything was huge and beautiful and he had a strong desire to fly on top on the large stone domes to find his way. Unluckily he didn't want to get undressed to do this so he continued to wander. He slowly made his way back to the gates hoping to find a Akalak to show him the way.

"Hey..HEY you Akalak, I need some directions!" Alsiter bluntly shouted at a tall older looking Akalak. "Where do you need to go?" Asked the Akalak.
"The labor office iv been lost for hours now"
"how did you get lost its by the gates, But you are close, see that building over there? Thats it." And the Akalak walked off down a stone walkway.

Feeling a little foolish because he walked right by it after entering the city he pushed open the waxed doors and entered. Inside it was very well done but simple styled. As he walked in he saw a short line and walked up to it. It had been a while since he had to do something like this but pride wasn't a thing that Alister let get in the way from making some gold.

"Name and reason for Visiting Riverfall?" Said the green Akalak.
"Alister Val'Tec looking for work and a home for a few seasons, iv been on the road too long and need to settle down for a while.
"Skills?"
"I spend much of my youth on a Svefra ship and have skills in trading and hunting" replied Alister.
"Wait over there and fill this out we will get to you in a few moments"
