Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Faryon walked down Kabrin Road and to the main gates of Riverfall. She had left her bonded Strider and Seme at the Sanctuary to avoid costly boarding charges in the city. Besides 2 miles wasn't too bad of a walk and it gave her a chance to enjoy the scenery.

As she approached the gates, two towers of Akalak of men were there guarding. One a deep blue the other surprisingly green. Their sheer height was off putting to the girl but advance none the less.

The green Akalak stopped her before she could enter to give her a scroll and explained it held a copy of their laws, a map of their city and a few advertisement. He went further on to explain she could enter if she agreed to the laws and their terms and waited for her confirmation. Too shy to say anything coherent, Faryon opted to just nod her head yes.

The guard stepped aside with a welcome and resumed his guard duty. Letting out a sigh of relief she hurried into the city.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Claire Evans on October 1st, 2013, 7:46 pm

16th Fall 513

Claire was tired when she reached the city doors. It has been a long day walking and her feets were about to explode. The sun was setting so she better was quick finding where to sleep.

This is huge! I just reached the city doors and Im amazed. I guess this is going to be a good place to start my adventures!
She was looking the structures of the rampart when she noticed somebody looking at her.

She looked to the two mens, may she know them?. Their skin was blue, so they should be Akalak.
I dont know any Akalaks, so they might be the door guards

"Welcome, traveler. Here is a scroll of welcome from the city. It contains a list of our laws, a map of the city, and some advertisements from local businesses that sponsor these scrolls to be made. You can feel free to come in if you agree to our laws and turn this scroll back in when you leave so we can reuse it" said one of the Akalaks, while the other was handing over the scroll and waiting for the visitor to agree to the rules.

Sure! Im going to live here, so I must follow the rules. Also thanks for the map, it will come in handy.

After that, she was allowed to enter the city, so she ran to seek a good place to sleep that night. She would live in that city for a long time, so there would be time to explore.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Groth on October 5th, 2013, 6:21 pm

It was the 1st of Fall, 513 AV.
The sun had not long been on the land.
Groth and his friend Croduth had been travelling together for quite some time and decided to find a nice place to settle down for a while. Riverfall was that place.

It was decided that the two would settle down in this are for the season at least and do some travelling to close by locations. They would try to find work and expand their skill set.

The two briefly parted ways to explore the town and find a spot that was good for them. After a few hours of exploration Groth had decided to by a 400sq ft room at The Pearl House.

As he walked into his new room, with the little he had, he thought to himself "this is a new chapter in my book of life". He placed his belongings at the end of his bed; sat down in the middle of the floor and started to meditate.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Teresa Deepseeker on October 5th, 2013, 8:47 pm

She could hear it before she could see it.
The roar of the waterfall heralded the approach of the walled city, the power of the crashing entrance into the Suvan creating a thick mist. The newly displaced water caught Syna's rays, fracturing the light into hundreds of sparkling colors. And in the absence of human companions Teresa quickly took the opportunity to babble excitedly to the dark shape off the port bow.

"Kai! Kai look!"

The slow frothing of bubbles from the shadow was her only answer, Kailani's age is finally being felt after such a long swim. Leaving the Orca feeling pensive at the end of the eighteen day voyage out in open waters.

"Oi! Come on try to show some enthusiasm! We've been gone for weeks and nobody died yet!"

Having not the will nor the patience to answer back, the shadow slowly faded into the endless blue under the casinor. Leaving to find a small inlet to rest in or an easy meal not expecting a predator to come so close to shore.

"Grumpy old man..." the Sverfa grumbles

Teresa had to quickly adjust the mainline with with sure flicks of her wrist and swivel the jib at the bow of her little casinor to avoid run-ins with the massive merchant vessels that were quickly making there way to the port city. The constant din and rushed movements of the docks lifted the Sverfa's spirit and quickly put a smile on her face, the port felt more like the Flotilla than she expected, as if Laviku himself had put it on himself to make sure a piece of home followed her as she set to strike out on her own.

Teresa coasted parallel to the dock and threw the coil over to tie off the Constantly Baffled, throwing the anchor and tying the sails shut as a pair of Akalak started over to her vessel.

”Hello there, can I help you with anything? Here is a scroll of welcome from the city. It contains a list of our laws, a map of the city, and some advertisements from local businesses that sponsor these scrolls to be made. You can feel free to come in if you agree to our laws and turn this scroll back in when you leave so we can reuse it."

The presence of the massive purple guards, while not unexpected, was enough to cause a start in the Sverfa. As the booming voice and towering stature dwarfed Teresa while on her knees securing the last of the rigging.

"What? Oh! Oh right, rules. Yes those are important aren't they? Been studying y'know...the rules." The less than impressed expression coloring the guards face forced a hasty response. "I mean, yes! I agree to the rules and whatnot. The map is appreciated, friends!" The beaming smile did little to put the men at ease, the reputation of Sverfa starting trouble in 'civilized' culture is well known and something closely watched for.

"Stay safe young lady." The obvious double meaning left Teresa pouting at there backs as they walked away. She really had studied the rules, badgering every passenger on her families pod for information on her destination. Starting trouble was fun when with a pod to back you up, but while alone in a new city it was important to play nice with the locals.

After finishing docking her vessel, Teresa leapt out of her boat and began her climb to the city proper, map in hand and ready to explore her new home for the winter. The same enthusiastic, beaming smile she gave the guards plastered to her face. This is the start of it all, and calling this feeling rooted in her belly 'excitement' didn't do it justice.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Croduth on October 6th, 2013, 12:12 pm

Croduth plodded alongside his companion, a fellow Jamoura that towered a foot over Croduth's own towering 6-foot stature. The two were certainly a sight to behold.

Dawdling along the Kabrin road, the Groth and Croduth shared quiet grunts and nods.

In the distance, Croduth could hear the rumbling of what he thought must be the great, echoing groans of some mighty chained beast. But he had not time to make any further observations on the matter.

"Welcome, traveler. Here is a scroll of welcome from the city. It contains a list of our laws, a map of the city, and some advertisements from local businesses that sponsor these scrolls to be made. You can feel free to come in if you agree to our laws and turn this scroll back in when you leave so we can reuse it."

Croduth simply nodded and took the scroll in his gentle, leathery hand. Tucking it into the back pocket of the tattered tan trowser he wore. The Jamoura adjusted his backpack, gave a nod to his friend, and set out in search of work and training within the city walls.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Yulio Ules on October 11th, 2013, 11:13 pm

Timestamp : Early to mid morning, 1st of Fall, 513 AV

Yulio had been watching the bottom of boats coming and going from the city, which she had yet to see up close, for hours now. They were just so fascinating. She had only ever seen two boats in her lifetime and always from a distance. But now they were right there. She could reach out and touch them if she wanted to. But she was too nervous to do anything. What would happen when she touched a boat? Well she assumed she would feel what it was like. She knew this. So it wasn't actually that keeping her away. It was other questions she hadn't acknowledged yet. How would the people here react to her entrance? Would they be friendly? Would they be hostile? Or would they not even notice her?

Yulio shook her head vigorously enough to cause bubbles to form around her. She had to stop thinking about this and just do. She got low to the Riverfloor and then pushed off it hard, going directly for one of the small boats. She stopped right next to it and stared with wide eyes then slowly reached out to it. Her webbed hand made contact and she was amazed at the feeling of the thick wet wood. She felt the occasional barnacle as it went by until the boat had passed and she watched it move on. Well....that was step one.

She swam around for a few minutes, touching some of the other boats and gaining confidence. She had no idea if anyone could see her as she never looked above the water. After following a boat which she had been touching for quite some time she suddenly hit her head on something. She swore quite loudly in Char and rubbed her head as she looked up to see what she had hit. It was quite weird. There was a big pillar infront of her. It had felt like the same thing the boats were made of. She followed the pillar up until it left the water. After a few moments she slowly swam to the surface. She slowed down a lot before she went above water, making her finned head slowly rise from the water with barely a ripple. The sight she found made her gasp.

It was beautiful! She saw the boats above the water in the main port. The white sails were so pretty! And the cliffs all around. The city. The big buildings! It was all too much. She felt small in this new big world she had discovered. Her mother said the land folk had an expression. Something about the tips of ice bergs that didn't make any sense to her. But she was pretty sure that was meant to describe this situation right here.

She backed away from the sight in front of her and bumped into the wood pillar. She slowly looked up and saw the bright blue sky and sun which she had only ever seen through the blur of the water surface. It was so clear now. Whatever these land folk swam in it was a lot easier to see in. As she watched the sky there was a thump behind her that made her jump and go back underwater, staring up at the surface with fear.

After nothing came after her she slowly went back above water. But only up to her nose. There were more thumps and she flinched as shadows passed over her. It took her a moment to realize it was land folk, walking on some sort of platform attached to the pillar. She watched them for some time until she saw some blue men approach one who had just been standing around and said something to him and gave him a scroll. She watched this happen a few times until she wanted to see what was on those scrolls.

So she swam around to find a way up. She found a pillar attached to another platform that was low enough for her to jump out of the water and grab, which she did of course, hoping she hadn't startled anyone. As she pulled herself out of the water and sat down on the edge of the platform she felt the water slowly run off her skin. It was the strangest feeling. Like she was slowly melting on the outside to reveal something new beneath. She sat there and just looked at the view and let the water leave her body until one of those blue men came over. She smiled and greeted him in Char. She gasped and covered her mouth as a slight shriek came out.

What was that noise? It was horrible! It definitely sounded like Char but it hadn't sounded near the same as when she spoke underwater. She shook her head and decided to try and use common instead.

"H-Hello." she greeted the blue man. He just held the scroll out to her and said his line.

Yulio nodded slowly as she took the scroll and began to look it over. She struggled with a word here and there but managed to get a gist of it. She frowned and put the scroll down in her lap as she looked out at the view.

"So to be in this city i need a house and place to work? That is strange...all i want to do is visit...but if thats how to land folk do it." she acknowledged and began to look over the rest of the scroll. Wondering what other strange things it was going to tell her.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Arisssa on October 21st, 2013, 1:31 am

Arisssa's feet hurt when she made it to th city doors. She paused as Merchants, and others alike moved around her. She amiled in awe at the city. Gran had taught her most of the history of Riverfall and the rest she'd learned from people traveling to and from places that Passed Gran's small cottage. Arisssa would've been content if not for this feeling that someone was watching her. She bit her lip in irritation, and looked. It was a blue skinned, tall, broad shouldered Akalak. She did not know any Akalak so she guessed they were the City guards. Arisssa smiled shly and walked up to the man in small, light steps, her toes barely touching the ground.
"Hi...?" she said, slightly terrifed of the man who was a pillar over her.
The man hardly blinked, only reciting his line, "Welcome, traveler. Here is a scroll of welcome from the city. It contains a list of our laws, a map of the city, and some advertisements from local businesses that sponsor these scrolls to be made. You can feel free to come in if you agree to our laws and turn this scroll back in when you leave so we can reuse it." His voice was warm, but a bit leathery. Arisssa looked over the scroll, her eyed taking in everything, even the map though she realized that trying to memorize the map was useless. Even with it memorized she'd still find a way to get lost. She smiled at the guard, and they conversed for a bit as she asked questions and agreed to the laws, then Arisssa and the guard said their goodbyes and they parted ways after Arisssa returned the scroll and left for the city and man accecepted the scroll and continued his post duties.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Davus on October 22nd, 2013, 8:27 pm

Timestamp : Sunrise, 32nd of Fall, 513 AV

What a beautiful view he thought as he stood on the deck of his ship, he stood on the stern of his ship facing outwards to the sea. The sun had just broken the horizon, casting a bloody shadow over the clear sky. His eyes gazed wistfully into the open ocean when a sudden caw announcing there was land ahead made him jump. "All hands on deck" He chuckled to himself as he walked round the deck "You could do some work y'know" he got a single squawk as a reply from the gull huddled up on the tip of the prow. He chucked the knotted fenders over the side of the boat as Riverfall came into view. The scene was incredible, even to sea dog, the water seemed like the purest liquid in Mizahar. It was staggering for a newcomer to observe the sleek, sapphire water descend down into the sea, a fine mist obscuring the path into port didn't faze Davus as he pulled on the tiller. He had reefed the sails already and the autumn wind that normally blew in from the Suvan Sea was just a gentle breeze so the ship glided slowly through the mist into port.

As his foot hit the wooden dock he felt a sense of unease, while not the tallest of his race the Svefra still stood above most in a crowd but here he couldn't look all but the shortest Akalak in the eye. Davus made his way toward the path leading up to Riverfall, ducking and weaving around the bustle of dockworkers and fisherman before he was stopped right at the edge of the path by a particularly large Akalak who made his vascular muscles very noticeable ”Hello there, can I help you with anything? Here is a scroll of welcome from the city. It contains a list of our laws, a map of the city, and some advertisements from local businesses that sponsor these scrolls to be made. You can feel free to come in if you agree to our laws and turn this scroll back in when you leave so we can reuse it." Davus took the scroll and held it up "This is useless for me I can't bleedin' read" The guard read out what he needed to know with a patronising tone and a small smirk "Well I suppose I ain't got any choice in it, now where is this Portmaster? I hope they'll let me sleep in my ship, either that or a cheap inn 'round these parts" Davus grumbled, knowing full well what the guard thought of him. He followed the direction the guard poitned out as a seagull flew down gracefully from the sky and rested on Davus's shoulder, though not before taking a crap over the guard.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby M'ki on November 25th, 2013, 4:18 pm

45 Fall, 513AV

M'ki clung to the railing, looking eagerly ahead as the ship approached Riverfall. She had traveled from Mura to Riverfall, following the Call that had been haunting her for as long as she could remember. When the ship docked, M'ki found herself almost overwhelmed by the sheer excitement of being somewhere that wasn't Mura. However, she controlled herself. She had other things to do today. Such as talk to the Guard on the docks. He welcomed her to Riverfall, though not without leering a bit-- M'ki just stared back coldly until he presented her with a scroll of Riverfall's laws, which she quickly read over.

"Sounds reasonable," she decided. "I agree to abide by these laws."

"Welcome to Riverfall, then, ma'am," the guard replied, inclining his head.
School and family have been very busy lately; as such, while I am trying to keep up with Mizahar, my muse is feeling very finicky. I will reply ASAP.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Chandray on December 1st, 2013, 7:11 pm

Chandray Evereene

Location: Riverfall Shipyards
Timestamp: Day 1 of Winter 513 AV

Chandray Evereene arrived to the harbour of Riverfall early in the morning Day 1 of Winter. The first thing she saw was the bay that was obviously carved by hundreds of years of the Blue Vein plunging down into the Suvan Sea. The waterfall dominated the landscape and yet the bay was large enough that the bay water calms and slides tranquilly out of the bay to allow ships to come and go from a port near the bay's mouth.

It was beautiful.

The wind had been good and Laviku had been with them. They had sailed all night long at good speed. The Sun was rising, sea birds were calling, the air was smelling salt and sea. Sailors reefed the sails and the ship moved slowly into the shipyards and was moored there by the busy crew.

Chandray jumped ashore, agile but a bit insteady on her legs when she stood on the unmoving ground after the sea journey. She looked around at the workers loading and unloading ships. The blue Akalak men could be seen everywhere, helping move shipments around, and securing arrivals or preparing departures.

A pair of them approached the ship’s captain and he gave them information regarding the number of people arriving with the ship, the cargo, and the last port, Syliras. When they were done with this, the Akalak greeted the passengers. Just like the others, Chandray recieved a scroll of welcome. It contained laws she agreed to, a map, useful information. She gave them a bright and warm smile and a thanks. One of them promptly smiled back the same bright way, but the other one gave her only a sad shadow of a smile and turned to next newcomer.

Feeling cheery and exited the way she always did every time she went ashore in a port she took her backpack and her fiddle and started walking. She was going to find a home and then she would look for a job. When she was done with the practicalities she would look around and slowly start to learn to know the city.
