Character Concept
Kaim is not a tempered young man and does not consider himself one either. He is very stubborn, always believes he is right and hates to admit when he is wrong. He tried to calm his temper by learning more about plants and medicine, but it did nothing for him. He attempted Meditation as well, per his mother's suggestion, and found it boring. He considered gardening by watering his mother's pots, but watering was all he ever did. Indeed, it was unarmed combat and practicing with his father's quarterstaff that allowed him to vent his feeling of uselessness. Growing up he consistently tried to view life as black and white as possible, but reality struck him at an early age. He never doubted what his mother taught him to be right or wrong but began to question it when his brother was taken away. His mother told him to always believe in Zintilla, that good things happen in "this shining city". This did not happen, his world became grey, and he began to reevaluate everything. He doesn't know anything about his father and has no interest to know either. He has a hatred for Reimancy, born from his childhood and his brother's usage of it. He also behaves very peculiar whenever he sees a cockroach, to which he calls his mortal enemy. He enjoys learning about plants, but his mother was his only source of knowledge because they could not afford to buy books. His sullen expression grew darker when his mother passed away. He settled on becoming a Shinya after his mother's death, hoping to find out what happened to his brother and a reason to keep on living. |
Character History
On the day Kaim, this blue-eyed little boy, was born his father had left the house on a job, to what end it was never known. That day was the day Kaim and his older brother Nuwe were left father-less, but only Nuwe felt the pain of losing his father. Their mother was determined to take care of them both, but kept secret from them a disease she had. Nuwe is five years older than Kaim, and he became hateful after their father left. This resentment led to a growing interest in practicing Reimancy. It was never known how he was able to practice Reimancy. Although, from what little Kaim's mother spoke of his father, he knew his father practiced Reimancy as well. As the years went by, their mother tried to care for both her children but found it difficult to do so. Her job, which allowed her to maintain the house and her boys, took up too much of her time. Kaim grew up at the mercy of his detestable brother, who burned the only toys Kaim ever had. Nuwe was such a maniacal boy that he threatened to kill Kaim if he told their mother about his skill. Around their mother, Nuwe acted like a good boy, always lying through his teeth. Their mother never found out about Nuwe's "talent" with fire, because she was hardly at home to watch her boys. She always suspected her son of being a practitioner, but he would lie to her, unaware of the consequences behind his actions. Of course, she also attempted to teach her boys right from wrong, but only Kaim heeded her instructions. Nuwe continued to act like a spiteful young boy, using his Reimancy for mischievous acts until someone spotted him. Trying to light your neighbor's house on fire was no joke, but to Nuwe it was. When Kaim was about ten years old, his brother was finally taken away. He was an unregistered wizard using Reimancy, and this is not allowed within the city walls. Had their mother reported him a wizard or had he gone himself they could have avoided it. Nevertheless, he was taken away not only for being unregistered but for recklessly using magic in public. Nuwe was detained and supposedly given trail for his crime within the sparkling city walls. Kaim never heard from his brother again, and his mother's condition began to show. Kaim felt useless next to his mother and his efforts to help her were only accompanied by frustration, and contempt for himself. During his mother's absence, he would fight with the neighboring children to vent his anger. While he was alone at home he would swing his father's staff around, breaking a few things in the process. His mother tried coaxing him to find fewer destructive methods, but he could not find any to his liking. At the age of sixteen, his mother could no longer support herself enough to continue to work. Bedridden, Kaim's mother showed him how to give her medicine until they could no longer afford to buy medicine. Kaim was tempted by thievery but was dissuaded by his mother. She passed away after he reached the age of seventeen, and Kaim lost his will to live. After several days, he decided to join the Shinya in order to find peace within his loss and to find out the whereabouts of his brother within the city. Currently, Kaim is an Acolyte of the Shinya, to be continued... |
