Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"Wow, i see why you land walkers like this now." Yulio said to the lady who was basically using a hair brush on her fins and octopus tentacles. It felt really nice actually as the lady went all around them, scrapping out little bits of dirt and refuse from them along with salt that had dried on there. Yulio loved it. Her fins felt so clean now and the lack of salt and dirt made her feel almost free. Usually the dirt and salt only iritated after a few days and then she would have to pic it all out. After awhile she had learned to simply ignore the stuff. She had even lost some motion in her fins. But now she could wiggle them all about and stuff. Same with her tentacles!

Seeing all those tentacles and fins wiggling about was kinda freaking the lady who was helping Yulio out. She didn't know what to do. After a moment she came up with a solution.

"Umm...excuse me miss. Can you hold still? It would make this alot easier." she said. Yulio looked back at her curiously then smiled and nodded, looking forward and holding still...until someone decided to talk to her! And she responded to this by turning her head to face the source of the voice, making the lady who was doing her "hair" sigh.

"Why hello, Jorin Erithan? Did i pronounce that right?" she asked and thought it over for a moment, whispering his name a few times then smiling.

"Yep, thats right. I think. Anyway my name Yulio. Its very nice to meet you."

[Beautyfest] Hair Salon

Postby Kirsi Winterflame on November 3rd, 2013, 4:25 pm

The tentacled woman chose a seat beside her and smiled - Kirsi returned the smile a bit uncertainly. Close proximity only made the sight more intriguing and the Vantha forced herself not to stare rudely, instead turning her attention back to the Pycon.

A momentary worry clouded her features as he mentioned dancing; surely a Pycon dancing in a crowd of Akalak feet would be flirting with disaster? But clearly Art was looking forward to the prospect, and Kirsi didn't want to damped his enjoyment with her own concerns. Although she was sure the Pycon valued his own safety more than to cavort in the middle of a stomping field of dancers, she decided to keep an eye out for him at the main event, if their paths should cross.

"I'm looking forward to the crowning, especially," she admitted lightly, "and the dancing, of course, though I don't pretend to be all that skilled. I'm more in the habit of playing music than dancing to it. But the party will be fun, in any case," and it was true. For all that she hadn't made tons of acquaintances throughout the city, Kirsi was excited at the prospect of socializing on a grand scale. Parties were ideal for meeting new people and the spectacles of beauty and fancy dress were sure to afford no end of conversation fodder.

Kirsi watched curiously as Art made his way up the chair, closing the distance between them with ease. It was still impressive to her, even after the times she'd spent studying the Pycon as he shifted bits of himself around; the truth was that, even though she found molding clay easier now, her static pieces simply didn't have the fluidity of the Pycon's natural movements. She doubted they ever would. But how often did you expect your pottery to move around, anyway? It was enough that things were starting to look a little less like a clumsy child had formed them.

If the smile on her face seemed a bit self-proud, it quickly changed to one of pleased surprise as Art offered her a tiny string of clay beads. "How kind! Thank you, Art."

The delicate beads felt heavier than they appeared, and Kirsi held them up, inspecting the design. Closer inspection revealed that it had been modified from the typical looped string of beads the larger races were bandying about. Smaller, certainly, but with a clasp at one end. To attach the beads to existing strings? Reaching blindly for one of the strings she already wore, Kirsi attached Art's clay beads in a tiny loop around them.

"And I'm happy to report," she addressed the Pycon a bit teasingly, "that Garob has noticed the improvement in my clay working. It seems our lesson was a success."

Kirsi's stylist chose that moment to pronounce her 'finished!", placing a silvered mirror in her hand. Thanking her, Kirsi inspected her reflection; loops and curls were piled atop her head, and the carved hair sticks extended outward, holding the entire mass together. The smoothed and oiled accessories displayed Kirsi's own handiwork; snowflakes and curving lines decorated the ends. While she wasn't actively seeking out commissions, she'd figured a bit of free advertising wouldn't hurt, and she was pleased that the stylist had been able to incorporate them into her design.

[Beautyfest] Hair Salon

Postby Dust on November 10th, 2013, 12:44 pm

"Pleased to meet you, Hornet!" Dust replied with a cheerful smile. "I've only met the one -- she fell on my head earlier this season. I don't know where she is now, though," the Kelvic concluded. The stylist working on her hair started trimming it then, admonishing the Kelvic to close her eyes. Even though it meant she couldn't watch all the other people in the tent anymore. Dust did as she was bidden, listening to the conversations around her ramble. Rin's remark caught her attention, but Dust's attempt to lean out and look at the osprey Kelvic was promptly forestalled by the attendant's hand on her shoulder. She settled back with a moment's mock annoyance, and decided to hold her question, too.

Short as Dust's hair was, the stylist made rather quick work of trimming it down, leaving the pale locks only perhaps a couple inches in length. She then brushed the Kelvic's hair into an almost starburst-looking part above one temple, settling the beaded headband neatly across it. She still didn't give Dust permission to move, though. Instead, the stylist first gave her a hand-mirror and directed her attention to it. "Ooh, that's pretty!" Dust declared, tilting the mirror to glimpse the sides and top of her head as well. Then and only then was she allowed out of the chair, bouncing to her feet and returning the mirror to the stylist.

Another woman promptly replaced Dust in the chair, the Kelvic stepping aside to let her past. Since she was already moving, she continued over to where Jorin and Rinya were. "I'm going to check out another tent, too. Maybe the one with the face-coloring -- that looked like fun! If I don't see you there..." This, she now directed towards everyone she'd been intermittently conversing with, or at least introduced to. "I'll see you at the party later!" Dust pledged brightly, waving at everyone a moment before ducking out of the tent's confines.

Vanator had ventured into Riverfall with his chainmail tunic bundled in a large wrap of leather. The sleeveless armor shirt had a few broken links from the latest encounter with the Zith, and the Drykas wanted to take it to the Arma'Drex Smithy, where it was originally made, for repairs. Loriim had happily agreed to fix the chainmail, having had to repair rents in Vanator's armor before. The Akalak armorsmith seemed pleased to see how much use his craftsmanship was put to the test by the Drykas man. The chain tunic had suffered damage, but always protected the Denusk from injury. Leaving the armor at the smithy, Van set back out to the streets to entertain himself until the repairs were done.

There was an air of festivity in the city. Women traipsed about in finery, exceptionally well coifed hair and cosmetics with bead necklaces around their necks. Men too, Akalaks and humans alike, meandered about admiring the adorned females. Van knew about the Beautyfest, the women from Sanctuary mentioning attending the event. He had been rather focused on his work that morning and had really not thought much of the activities. It was fine for the girls to attend, but what Vanator found to be attractive was not typically what the day's fashions dictated. Time would prove that Van was not so atypical.

A ginger of a girl skipped up to Vanator, barely a teenager, holding out an arm from which dangled strings of multi-colored beads, from her elbow to her wrist. "Have you given your beads away sir? Have you gotten your beads yet?" She chirped in Common. Vanator held up his hand to fend her off. "No thanks, little one." He politely refused. "Awww...come on, these ladies are working hard to look good for all you guys..." She pleaded, eyes too large for her pretty face staring up at him like a kitten. Well,Van thought, his family is probably around somewhere, perhaps he should look around. "Oh, alright." He conceded with a broad smile. The waif gave him three strands, took his name, waved him in the direction of the tents, and darted off.

Vanator strolled through the crowds, admiring the diversity of the women of Riverfall, and not a few wolfish grins and comments from its men as they enjoyed the event. Passing a large tent marked as one for styling hair, Vanator saw a bright blonde step out. Several steps later, he paused. Dust? Back pedaling, the Denusk stopped as the Kelvic exited the pavilion.

"Dust!" He called after her, almost not recognizing the woman. The raven girl's hair had been cropped short, a sassy crown of spikes atop her head, ringed by an attractive beaded band. Her stylist must have been talented, the coif seemed to fit Dust well, especially knowing her bubbly personality.
