The last thing Lorick wants is to be recognized. He came to Nyka because nobody here knew him. Just his hard luck, then, that he'd meet the one woman who DID know him...

Known as the Celestial Seat, Nyka is a religious city in Northern Sylira. Ruled by four demigods and traversed by a large crevice, the monk-city is both mystical and dangerous. [Lore]

Money. It made the world go 'round. And Lorick didn't have enough of it. Oh he had Mizas, but nothing and no one seemed to be accepting that coinage here, instead going for a type of coin called a "Laat". Trahern had never heard of a "Laat" before, but it was irrelevant to his problem. He needed Laats, and he'd been told that the place to exchange his Mizas was a location called the Heavy Coffers Headquarters. Also apparently nicknamed the "Vault".

As he approached the structure, Trahern noted the plethora of circles abounding the area. Despite the building's square shape the circular sigil was everywhere, and he briefly wondered about what it represented, before dismissing the information as not relevant to his current situation. As he approached the Nyka Bank, he hefted his bag of coins. It was everything he owned, and he was going to turn it in for Laats. Trahern was not happy with this; he'd much prefer to keep his Mizas, but the economics of the situation did not permit this.

He'd considered shifting into female form for this transaction. Lorick found that being female had a tendency to make just about everything go smoother, and he'd used that particular model so many times it had become much easier than when he first started. But he thought better of it. Not only was it physically taxing to use a full-body model like that, but it was unnecessary in this case. He toyed with the idea of morphing a beard and perhaps longer hair, but determined that to be unnecessary as well.

Instead, he approached the line at the till, patiently waiting his turn to be called. Unconsciously, he began tapping his foot with impatience as the line inched ever-so-slowly forward. The longer he was there, more more uncomfortable Trahern felt. Something was wrong, he could feel it. Then suddenly, he realized why he was so uncomfortable.

There was a pale young woman standing a few feet away from him. Trahern did not know if she had noticed him, but he certainly noticed her. Of all the rotten luck. Despite having moved to Nyka to avoid the attention his name had attracted in Ravok, he just had to run into the one woman who would certainly recognize him. It was too late now; he could not morph here, not with so many witnesses. He would simply have to hope that the girl did not turn his way.

Currency was a funny thing, it controlled most people with a firm grip called greed. Some species seemed to revolve around mony, deciding the ranks amongst them by how much money the had acquired.

Assilsa was the odd one out in the Vault, her darken clothes in a sea of brighter colours, also the obvious fact that she was not of this city. The silent waiting was wearing thing on Assilsa’s nerves, Laats were a funny thing, something Assilsa hadn’t bothered with until she had seen that beautiful knife. Shifting awkwardly Assilsa pondered if it was worth it for just one knife.
The lines progressed slowly with the annoying murmurs of peoples days loud enough for others to hear and yet still counted as private conversation.

Brushing her hair away from her earing Assilsa scanned the crowd looking for someone to amuse her while she waited in line, that’s when she saw him. Garent eyes focused and narrowed as she attempted to place the Stature and his familiar face to a name. As she turned and their eyes met, recognition flared in both their eyes.
“Lorick…”

Assilsa had taken away the one weapon Lorick prized above all else: anonymity. He'd been recognized, which limited his options severely. He realized he only had a few choices at this point. He could feign ignorance, but that would not work since he knew that Assilsa knew who he was. He could confront, but there were too many witnesses, and the fact that she was a Symenestra made confrontation an iffy proposal at best.

Fortunately, no one else had paid much attention to the pale woman's statement of his name. So he schooled his face into a mask of neutrality and returned Assilsa's gaze.

"Assilsa," he replied neutrally. He gave her his most piercing stare. He hoped it would at least get her to back off slightly, perhaps unnerve her into making a mistake. He could use any advantage he could get, as he was fighting from a position of weakness at this point. But first, he needed to ascertain just how badly he'd been compromised.

"It's a pleasure to see you," he continued, the left corner of his mouth raising in a small smirk. "Here for the Laats as well?"

The man had not changed, still as annoying as the day Assilsa had met him. Luckily Assilsa could be as creepy and sarcastic as he seemed.
As he approached Assilsa noticed his ‘glare’ and burst out laughing. To a normal person he might of unnerved them, but Assilsa just found it funny. Moving into Loricks space Assilsa made sure to show her fangs whilst she spoke.Smiling as he said ‘it was a pleasure’ Assilsa knew he didn’t mean it, at all. The man was obviously didn’t want to See Assilsa here. Pushing the hair out of her face Assilsa smiled.
“A pleasure?” Laughing she rested her hand on his shoulder, “I know your Lorick, You don’t wanna see me”
Assilsa looked back at the lines and sighed they had yet to move.
“Yeah, Laats, I have my eye on this really nice hunter knife ebony hilt all that cept they only accept Laats”

Lorick was feeling out of his element. He had no clue what Assilsa's motivations were, and therefore he had no means by which to direct them. When she placed a hand on his shoulder he flinched slightly, an unusual action for a man generally so very meticulous about the lie he presented to others.

"A knife?" he asked neutrally. There would have been any number of reasons Assilsa would want such a thing. Lorick himself generally eschewed weapons, seeing as having one usually attracted all the wrong sorts of attention, but perhaps he'd been too hasty in his judgement.

Lorick shrugged and looked Assilsa in the eyes. He really didn't like doing this in public. He'd far prefer a more... controlled environment, but he needed to assess the level of danger he was currently in. "This knife," he asked carefully, as the line began to inch toward the counter. "It isn't... meant for anyone, is it?"

Assilsa couldn’t help but laugh again, killing him? Ah that would be nice. Lorick seemed to poke at her nerves with a red hot poker; he was so self-absorbed and arrogant.

“Well… it could be… could be… I could easily stab someone with it”

She smiled as he began to look extremely uncomfortable… more than normal. Assilsa pushed Lorick forward as the line progressed forward.

“However no, As much as I want to… I gained a hunting job here I need the knife to finish off animals”

Meeting Loricks eyes Assilsa hopped they held an evil glint, for she must admit it was a hobby of hers to annoy him, she used to back in Ravok, always going to his actor things to make comments about. Considering for a moment Assilsa wondered if that was why he was so uncomfortable? Because he had left to rid of his past and Assilsa herself was just one huge smack in the face.

She needed it for "hunting". That could mean any number of different things. She could, of course, be lying. It is said that a liar suspects everyone of lying, but it is also said that just because you think everyone is out to get you doesn't mean that they aren't. Some people just suspect the conspiracies that float just underneath the surface, but Lorick knew. He grew up in the City of Lies itself, and Ravok had taught him well. Nothing could be trusted.

"Yes. Well, I can see how that would be reasonable," he replied, putting in some Djed into his words, and into his eyes. Doubt. He didn't know if Assilsa knew about his minor skill in Hypnotism, but at least here, he'd be relatively safe to find out. Ideally, he'd prefer to calm her with his Hypnotism, make her trust him. But she already didn't trust him, and he wasn't skilled enough a Hypnotist, or even a skilled enough liar, to turn that around.

Best, then, to go the complete opposite way. Maybe if he could get her to doubt him enough she'll make a few crucial mistakes. Mistakes he could pounce on, mistakes he could use. It was the only strategy he had, right now. That dagger. Hunting, she'd said. Really. An ebony-hilted dagger, for hunting. Pretty expensive for just a hunting dagger. Lorick smelled a rat. After all, it took a liar to know a liar.

Smiling at Assilsa, he continued to shuffle forward. Their turn was coming up soon, and he hoped he could at least salvage this encounter by figuring out why she really wanted that dagger.

"I'm sure the dagger would be quite useful for your work," he concluded, and used a bit more Djed again. He was really reaching the limits of his Hypnotism, Lorick dind't really think he could do that again today, but this time he'd injected some distrust into his words.

Lorick knew Assilsa already distrusted him. And now with the Hypnotism, she'd trust his words even less. He hoped with some magical encouragement, her own paranoia would do the rest of the work for him. He only hoped it would work the way he intended it to.

Lorick was a sly one at that however as she continued to shuffle forward it made her wonder was he actually a bad as she thought widening her eyes Assilsa shook her head where did those thoughts come from? It was never smart to trust this man he was a lying bastard that no one should trust, why would she doubt that?

“Ah yes. Removing the skin in one quick slice, yes very useful”

Assilsa began to frown slightly at her own words, did he not believe her? She had told to the truth however made it seems as not. Her mind began to doubt his words again but why? Racking her mind Assilsa began to think back… Hypnotism… She had once encounted a slayer that had used it against her, did Lorick have that skill? If anyone would it would be him. Looking him straight in the eyes Assilsa growled softly and slapped him with all her might.

“Bastard! Don’t use hypnotism on me!”

And here was where Lorick's skill as a liar really came into play. He knew that he had a problem when she brought up Hypnotism, though he still didn't know if she brought it up because she knew he was a Hypnotist, or because she suspected he was a Hypnotist. Only one way to find out.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Lorick replied carefully. with a broad smile. He made sure not to rub the sore part of his cheek where Assilsa had slapped him. "If I were using Hypnotism on you, why would I do so in view of the public?"

Lorick was careful not to put any Djed into either statement. If she was going down the path of greatest paranoia, she might be questioning her own reactions right now, wondering if any of them were real, wondering if he was manipulating her in any way. He didn't have to use Hypnotism. Now he had to rely on his other skills.

"Though... you were very quick to accuse me of manipulating you when I asked about that dagger," Lorick noted, with one eyebrow quirked. Another one of his tricks. Turn the accusation back on the other person. He allowed the unspoken accusation hang in the air for another few ticks. It had the added benefit of making most of the curious spectators turn back to their own conversations, no longer interested in what looked to be a spat that had now turned into a cold staring contest.

The line was moving toward the counter. Only about ten more chimes, and they would be there. After that... who knows? Lorick knew that this woman would be trouble. Even if he managed to end this encounter at an advantage, it would be fleeting, at best. There had to be some way to neutralize her threat, yet he couldn't figure how. Right now, it was all he could do to tread water, and see if he couldn't find any other weaknesses he could exploit.

Assilsa was getting tired of his charade, if she could just punch him or stab him or something else to get her to believe him. She honestly wanted this line to reach the counter so she can go buy the beautiful knife.

Slowly taking a step forward Assilsa wondered if she had misread the signals? Assilsa knew that he was a hypnotist however he might not be using his powers against her. After all she was always uneasy when with Mr untrust worthy.

Reaching out Assilsa looked dead straight into his eyes she attempted his strategy, she was going to lie deceive him at his own game.

“Oh you wish to know what im going to do with the knife? Well I’m going to commit mass murder”

Assilsa cringed on the inside, she would never consider such a thing, it went against everything she believed in however she knew that being around her made Lorick uneasy and that a comment like that said with a straight face would be enough o set him off.
