Three loud knocks echoed through Nilika and Kia's, Nilika's mom, home. Kia shot out of bed. Who would be knocking this early in the morning? She scratched her head as she got of bed. This was not a good time to be whoever was knocking. Kia's face slowly turned red. If they wake up Nilika, there will be pain to pay.
Finally reaching the door, she swung it open and almost collapsed in annoyance. "Did ya' miss me Kia," the voice questioned in arrogance. "Well hello mom," Kia answered in disdain. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with her mom. She walked away and sat on the sofa, "what happened to the key I gave you?" Kia's mom only smiled and blush a little. "Well...you see...I," she took a deep breath, "I lost them." Kia's was a calm woman at heart. She just couldn't take her mom's irresponsible behavior sometimes. "How did you lose them this time," she asked as she walked into the kitchen. There was a whole drawer full of keys just for this situation.
Her mom stayed quiet for a while, "in a bar fight." Kia turned to her mother with wild eyes and snapped, "why the-." Before Kia could finish, Nilika walked in. Her little hands rubbed her eyes. Everyone stayed quiet hoping that the eight year went back to sleep. Their effort was in vain; the little girl stayed in her spot and looked around.
"Grandma N'Fisa!"
The little girl ran towards the other woman. N'Fisa picked up the little one and put her on her lap. "You've grown soooo much," N'Fisa ruffled the girl's hair and sat her back down. The oldest of the women jumped up and turned around with a huge grin. Kia backed up from N'Fisa; that grin was off. "Whatever you are thinking, don't you dare do it," Kia said. N'Fisa only grinned wider. She couldn't help but toy with her only daughter. She wasn't going to do anything. Well not anything to Kia, but still oh well!
N'Fisa grabbed Nilika's hand and dashed through the door, this was plan A. The grandma ran and rand. Poor little Nilika could barely keep up with the other. Back at the house, Kia just stared out the door. She only sighed and closed the door. Why must her mother be weird?
