27th Day of Autumn, 513 Wynrie and Marrin had known each other for ages, since they became great friends as Yasi. They had done everything together from day one, and had come to treat each other like siblings. They’d do their best to be assigned bendi together, and when they didn’t one would often sneak away to switch positions with someone the other was matched with. They’d been apprenticed under the same hunting master, but had been separated when, in midsummer, Wynrie had bonded with one of the great Wind Eagles of Wind Reach. She was slim, short red hair far from brushing her shoulders, her clothing provocative and outstanding in the way only an Endal could afford. Tattoos covered the high left corner of her back, ending with her shoulder blade, detailing the short amount of time she’d spent with her eagle. Despite the limited span of her Endalship, she’d had a great many adventures learning to fly and such in summer, learning all the intricacies of her new caste. She’d decided the best way to record it was using her body as a living canvas, walking about with her life story on display in symbols and pictures. She planned to one day be covered in stories to tell to the young ones. But for now, she was young, having just picked up Marrin from his encampment at one of the many forward camps. He’d just finished a moderately successful hunt, one of his best this season, but still far from being able to be called good in any sense of the word. None the less he was proud, and had decided that tonight was the night to take his old friend out for drinks at the Inclimate Weather. Syna had only just licked the horizon, peeking down from above the murky blanket of clouds that had been covering the skies as of late. The underside of the clouds now shone in hues of orange, red and gold, a mosaic of grand illusion. ”Did you hear? The water up here had been tasting strange as of late. I’m not sure what to make of it…” she said, linking her arm with his as they walked. ”What do you think?” Marrin shrugged, this being the first he’d heard of the situation. ”Can’t say for sure. Could just be the way the water’s flowing. I wouldn’t worry too much about it if the Valintar hasn’t said anything. He’d tell us if something was wrong.” ”If he could manage to find the time. I hear the Yasi are particularly troubling this year.” ”I wouldn’t be so quick to judge them if I were you. Wasn’t too long ago that you and I were among those ‘troublesome youth’.” ”Oh, I’ll show you troublesome!” And so the two of them walked, arm in arm, chattering amongst themselves and laughing all the way.
