As soon as his head hit the pillow, Kovac struggled to maintain consciousness long enough to make sure Haya was alright. He had turned away and could not see her, feeling an odd desire to offer her some privacy. Haya had proven to be much more than just a working Drudge. Somehow, even in her simple lontev and long mussy hair, she had dignity and a sense of humor. It did something strange to Kovac, almost like placing a shield around her, that seemed to prevent him from doing her any further harm. It was something he offered to very few people...respect. Haya slid into the bed, brushing against his back as she settled in. The contact was warm and felt almost comforting to the drunk archer. He heard the young woman shift a bit, then lay still. A faint smile stretched across his lips. He had wanted to tell her goodnight, but consciousness slipped from him almost instantly, and all Haya would hear was his deep, peaceful breathing.
