[Quint's Scrapbook] New Start on a New World

I'm not sure how other people use these threads, but as this is my first-ever in-game character for Mizahar... for me this shall be, beyond the stated purpose, a place I can focus as I slowly start to grasp the lay of the land.

So far I am quite impressed with this place. I personally find the learning curve a bit daunting-- the layout is far superior to most other sites out there, but the sheer volume of information I need to grasp means that it might be better to start with what I assume is the new season change in 3 weeks.

As I mentioned in someone's blog, I do love that this place shuns cliche characters and avoids stereotypical races. That gives Mizahar a unique flavor and a delightful spin on the text adventure genre. But it also means that a few days of reading and research now will pay off in the long run. And each day of looking around is helping to fine tune my character. Yesterday he was a generic human. Today he is merchant sailor, possibly with his own casinor.

Still to come: figuring out where to start.

Thank you, Gossamer! I am enjoying it very much! The people in chat are great and have been a very good source of information, pointing out in a few seconds stuff that might have taken me days to sort through on my own. And they pointed me to Tarot's video log and some other interesting places that I did not know existed. This is a good crew.

I'm actually working on my CS in Wordpad and will post something up as a WIP by the weekend. Each day Quint gets a little more developed. Now I believe he will be a worshipper of Xyna (I don't yet know how to spell anything... the merchant goddess) and I've met a female Svefra willing to do a flashback with me. And I know he'll be starting on land as opposed to the Flotilla. Still to come: where he was during the Djed storm of a few years back.

Now for a tiny bit of scrapping. I asked this question so let me stick this link here at my fingertips.

My daughter went ga-ga over that picture as she passed the computer. She collects ducks (last count was 73 ducks not counting wall papers and stickers that she has covering everything).

Hey, that's great! I'm glad I made you guys happy. I was going to say "I'm glad I made a little girl happy!" but I didn't want to get Gossamer.. or the FBI... looking at me sideways.

Things are going well. My one-man crusade to read everything ever written in Mizahar continues.

I wish I could say I was reading mostly IC stuff, but right now it's the OOC stuff that I found most interesting. There are so many blogs and scrapbooks and character sheets and discussions on various items. It's great stuff. You guys are all so amazing and expressive. (Gossamer's description of me is apt: since I'm a sponge, I feel like a hyper kid in a candy shoppe. There's just so much life and youth and raw vitality here it makes me feel energized just being here.)

As an example, I read some of the descriptions of various skills. Nothing I'd want for Quint. I just read anything that caught my eye. I was blown away by some of the descriptions, and spent some time daydreaming about how to play out a guy with 10 points in something as compared with someone who was half-way competent.

And I went to see which introduction threads garnered more than 200 looks. I was amazed to find out that some of the most interesting were for people who posted once in character and vanished, and the intro thread had turned into a three page passionate defense of Mizahar to counter some trolling insults of the original poster.

And what was I reading most recently? The post about TVTropes that Tarot started. That was pretty funny. I bet I'll enjoy it even more 2 or 3 months down the line when I get all the references.

So that's me, reading and more reading of OOC stuff.

Which isn't to say I don't want to contribute or to write about Quint and his forthcoming alts, but ... there's no rush on that score. I don't even know where I want to start or who to write with-- everyone is so good, and every place is so interesting that I am having trouble narrowing it done. But I will. I'm sculpting away at Quint's CS, carving away all the marble that isn't Quint. In a similar fashion, I know he would be a wrong fit for Eyktol. So I've already narrowed my province search by 16%.

I agree there is no need to rush character creation Though you know...if you get done with character creation the faster you can get Quint IC, and manage to make your way to one of the three cities I can RP with you in
