While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Aren chuckled as he heard Sam mention that it would be good to have strength in numbers. Numbers, unfortunately, didn't guarantee anything, and sometimes they were even more of a hindrance than a help.
"I don't know if you've ever traveled through it, but it's certainly not a place you should wander into on a whim." Kegan was armed, Aren had noticed, but he was just a kid, even by human standards. How well could he possibly use that weapon? He might be able to give a glassbeak a couple of pokes before he was crushed by it's maw, but the Akalak still wouldn't recommend him coming along. He wasn't going to say more than he already had, however. If the boy wanted to come, he was certainly free to, no matter how bad of an idea it might have been.
Aren didn't look back, even when he spoke, and now his silence resumed once again. He was actually eager to continue forward, to reach the edge of the grasslands, but he also couldn't begrudge his companions one last rest stop. They were likely not to have such a peaceful time of it later on. |

Kegan liked the idea of heading to Endrykas. He had always wanted to visit the horse clans that lived past the sea of grass. The only problem was he would have to pass through the Sea of Grass. He had heard of the dangers that dwelled in the Sea of Grass. He nodded as Aren offered his warning. He understood why the tall warrior would want him to be wary of the travel. Kegan was going to go though. When he set out to live on his own he had taken into account the dangers of this choice. He had not left his family in Riverfall to spend the rest of his days in the Wildlands. He had a good run in the open spaces of the Windlands but it was time to move on.
Kegan pet Arnett’s head and looked at Samael. ”Yeah, I think I will come. I have always wanted to see Endrykas.” he said with a smile. ”When are you guys setting off? In the morning I’m guessing.” Arnett looked up at Kegan with his brown eyes full of worry. Arnett could sense the danger of the sea of grass. He was picking up on the warnings in Aren’s voice that Kegan wasn’t. Kegan was always one to jump into situations without thinking. Arnett was more careful but he had no choice but to follow Kegan. To Arnett Kegan was the alpha male and he had to follow. Still, it did not calm his fear that something might happen in the Sea of Grass. |

Wys was passive. Just passive. He greeted the newcomer with a nod, not much else. So far, Aren pretty much laid out everything Wystern would say anyway. He didn't eat, Wys didn't get very hungry when he traveled, he wouldn't talk much, as if committed to an oath of silence. It was sort of like a defense mechanism shutting down the unnecessary, morale didn't matter, he never got depressed, or scared for that matter. It was always either anxiety or nothing. The Knight's horse expressed about an equal amount of emotions as its rider. Wys got along with the Tiaden horses simply because all they knew was warcraft.
He did throw in soe thought at his present company and a scenario ran through his head as to what may happen in case of attack. Aren would saty and fight, the Drykas might, the Kelvic would likely use the moment to escape, bandits don't exactly go for wolves, Kegan...Wys had no idea. There were only two creatures with specific military training present, Wys, and the animal he rode. It felt so oddly reassuring that the Tiaden don't bail on the riders.
Gloomy thoughts were starting to get on his nerves. "I will take the first watch." He said hopping down from the horse. |
If gods are watching us, the least we can do is be entertaining.
