Great Bazaar

Ethan awoke early that morning feeling the pain and tireness from the Drills that Ser Titus had put him through. He needed to possibly go to Soothing Waters and get a massage, but in actually his first stop was the Great Bazaar to buy the equipment needed for him and his future travels. He was greatly worried, because in a great many of ways spending the money would mean committing to leave this city and all of it behind. Yet, if he didn’t and only stayed here, what would become of him? What new things could he discover while working in Ros’ foundry and forge? There was so much more in this world and the Ros was a Master smith, finding something unique from the past and bring it back here in the seat of civilization… it was a small dream. His larger one was carving a piece out of the wilderness to call his own.

Picking up a large purse of money, Ethan felt well… frighten. He was going to spend a great deal of coin to pick up some supplies to train and fight. Taking a deep breath and making sure his purse was tied securely on his belt, he set off.

His first stop was a local armorer that specialized in Leather and Fur goods. Ethan couldn’t afford the pricely metal stuff that Ros sold and frankly he didn’t want to look like a fraud reading around in Knights armor. Feeling sick to his stomach he talked with the Armor. First he bought a Fur-Lined Hide Mail, Leg Greaves and Arm Rerebraces. The armorer asked if he wanted Cuisses and he had to barter with man to extend some fur downward to hide the Cuisses. He looked at the Gaunlets and nodded at a pair of leather ones that were padded and knuckles wrapped. Ethan looked at the man as he talked about helmets, Ethan went ahead and paid for a leather helm with decent padding and a chin strap. Ethan and the armorer went back and forth talking about modifications and other things. In the end, Ethan kept the armor simple and only asked for bridle rings to be added so that he could straps things on. Paying the man, Ethan felt close to sickness. Knowing that he know had to store the equipment Ethan bought a armor mannequin to hold the pieces of armor when not in use.

Armor :
Fur-Line Hide Mail 65 gm
Arm, Rerebrace 50 gm/5 (Leather) = 10 gm
Leg, Cuisses 60 gm/5 (Leather) = 12 gm
Leg, Greaves 60 gm/5 (Leather) = 12 gm
Gauntlets, Studded 5 gm/5 (Leather) = 1 gm
Helmet, Chin Guard 50 gm/5 (Leather) = 10 gm
Armor Mannequin 12 gm
Total 120 gm

Ethan felt slightly sick at the thought of just how much money he had used in buying equipment. The armor would need to see him a few times to punch the correct holes in the straps for buckles and fit a couple of pieces. Thankfully, it would be delivered to his apartment since the armor had just made a serious sale.

Ethan took a deep breath and went to the local fetcher. He picked up a shortbow and a quivers with enough arrows to fill it four times, knowing that he was going to have to practice a great deal. Next he went to the Philters to pick up medicine for himself so that he could survive training. He picked up 45 doses of Krolar Poultice, knowing that this was going to be his go to all cure. Additionally, he picked up twelve doses of Rugberry Tea. Feeling that this was good for the initial medicine chest, Ethan paid up and took his purchases home.

Range and Herbs :
Shortbow 30 gm
Quiver 20 gm
Arrows, Shortbow (80 arrows) 4 gm
Rugberry Tea (12 doses) 3 x 2 gm = 6 gm
Krolar Poultice (45 doses) 15 x 5 sm =7 gm 5 sm
Total 67 gm 5 sm

Lastly Ethan went to the Ironworks to pick up three weapons and a shield. He had a feeling that this might take the last of his money he had earned from Ser Titus, but he was going to make sure that when the time came he was ready with the right equipment. Looking through the racks of weapons, Ethan placed a boar spear, a double bladed dagger, a small round steel shield on the counter. He asked after some of the older designed weapons, seeing a gladius he picked it up and felt it was just too short and heavy in the blade. Finally Ethan found a Spatha, an old sword meant for calavary, but converted to foot soldiers a long time ago. Some said it was the ancestor of the long sword, so Ethan picked it up and placed it on the counter. Even though Ethan knew where the sharpen stones were, he asked the clerk to get it so that he wasn’t accused of stealing. At last the final total came, and Ethan felt his heart stop when he thought of just how much he had spent today.

Weapons and Shield :
Sharpening Stone, Personal 10 gm
Shield, Small, Steel 9 gm
Dagger, Double Bladed 8 gm
Spatha (Longsword) 15 gm
Boar Spear (Longspear) 10 gm
Scabbard, Dagger 2 gm
Scabbard, Standard 4 gm
Total = 58 gm
Total Spent on Everything 245 gm 5 sm

Sei stepped into the Bazaar, and watched the people crowd the stalls. He lessened his hearing, and tried to tune out the noise. He first walked to an armor stall, and looked at the wares. He stopped at a rack of sheilds, and found a small steel one, and took it off the rack. On the next he found leather armor. He walked to the table and gave the man in charge his mizas. He gave him a curt bow and moved to the next stall.

Armor & Sheild :
Leather Armor -10gm
Sheild, Small, Steel -9gm

He then found a stall with arrows and quivers galore. He picked up a three packs of arrows, and a large quiver. He then went to the counter, gave the woman her mizas and headed back home.

Arrows & total :
Arrows, Flight(20)x3 -9gm
Large Quiver(50) -20gm

OOCPermission granted by DS to sell items

As Abashai descended into the castle's fourth tier, the smell was immediately recognizable, even after four years. Smoke, sweat, and the plethora of aromas from the expansive collection of vendors and their wares assailed his nostrils. The Benshiran had not time, nor desire, to peruse leisurely through the market. He had arrived at Syliras mizaless, Nya, his infant son, and a goat in tow. He needed cash fast for the room at Traveler's Row Matilda had promised her old friends.

To alleviated his financial crunch, Abashai has retrieved a cache of items he had stored hidden in their old Home Cave in the foothills of the Cobalts. Weapons, mostly, spoils of the battle Nya and he had fought with an Ebonstryfe party and their Black Sun leader. The Benshiran did not bother to take them to Sultros Blades, the shop would have no interest in hawking used items they did not produce and risk damaging their reputation. So Shai sought a vendor in the market who would take them off of his hands.

Lugging the covered bundle on his back, Abashai finally located a merchant who dealt in cheap weapons and ironwork. He was not a smith, it was evident, but a collector and seller of goods. The Benshiran greeted the merchant, complimenting him on his fine selection of quality goods, then offered him a great deal on some prized gear. Abashai's weapons were of good quality, forged in Ravok for the Ebonstryfe, and had been safely stored away from the elements. Unwrapping the horse blanket, Abashai displayed his goods. A tulwar, light crossbow, short sword, two daggers, two balanced hand axes and a short bow were carefully laid out, as if some great treasure. Of course, the Benshiran did not indicate the origin of the weapons. Finally, Abashai tugged off his thread bare tunic and peeled off his chain mail shirt, laying it on top of the weapons.

Examining them, the merchant noted their quality, though they had been obviously used. "I will cut you a very good price, I need cash quickly." The vendor wanted to banter a bit, and Abashai played along, finally agreeing on a price. It would provide Abashai enough mizas to secure a room and feed himself, Nya and the child until they could find work.

Bag of coin in hand, Abashai found the nearest clothing vendor to purchase new clothing. Guessing at Nya's size he bought both of them a pair of leather and cotton pants each, a linen and wool shirt each, a change of undergarments and each of them a cloak. He managed to also find two infant sized one-piece outfits for the baby, one cotton and a warmer wool one for winter.

The market was a whirl of noise and cluster, people pushing and rushing and scurrying. It was almost too loud for Altaira to handle. She coaxed herself to calm down, eyes searching the sea of stalls and venders for what she needed - new clothing and perhaps an apron, good shoes for wear. She took in a deep breath, taking her own little mental note as to what she could afford and what she couldn't, constantly reminding herself to factor in this and that, what she'd sell when she left the city, and what she'd be comfortable working in.

A string of clothing and footwear stores caught her eye, and she took in a shallow breath. "I'll give myself 15 GM limit on clothing," she decided, shuddering at the thought of continuing to wear the same clothes she'd just spent a hard travel in any longer, bitter at the thought of showing to her knew job wearing such torn and tattered things.

Clothing :

2 Shirts [Fine Wool, Lace, Dyed] 1.7 GM 11.7 GM

She quickly moved onto a store of bits and pieces, grabbing the oddity and finding herself over loaded - spending the journey home with an awkward load, and piercing glares at she thought acting suspicious.

[Syliras Location] The Great Bazaar

Postby Mira Clearwater on November 11th, 2013, 9:24 pm

Timestamp: 61st Day Autumn, Year 513 AV

Mira had risen early with the sun today to set out for the marketplace in Stronghold. This is the day, she had thought when she opened her eyes.

Now she was standing amid the chaos of the market. People were loudly exchanging goods for money. Women were selling food while their crying children whined impatiently in their arms. Dogs were barking and jumping around the cages of chickens settled in one booth. Down the street one man claimed to have the best venison in all of Stronghold. Donkeys were braying, and their noise wasn't the only thing that let Mira know they were there. The sheer stench of farm animals was everywhere she turned. Cows, goats, pigs.....some would soon be slaughtered for food, while more fortunate ones would become pets. Mira looked away. She'd always had a heart for animals.

If she was going to get out of Stronghold, she needed to move now. Her first stop was a small stand that was selling maps. Maps were often hard to come by, especially good ones, but she knew for a fact that the cartographers in Stronghold were some of the best. She bought a regional map for 10 gold mizas. It was more expensive than she had hoped for, but she knew the map would come in handy on her travels.

That left 90 gold mizas. Next she would need something to protect herself with. She hated violence, and she hoped she would never have to use a weapon, but it was better to be safe than sorry. From a man selling knives she bought a dagger, which cost her 2 gold mizas - a fine price. She tucked the little blade away in her belt.

The next purchase would be her largest and most important - a horse. While her father had never owned such an animal, friends of her family had. She remembered her first shaky ride on an old horse with her father. The memory brought back a smile. Her father was always so confident and calm around animals, and she suspected she had picked up this trait from him. The old horse had been gentle and there were no fears of being thrown back then. However, riding one by herself, especially one that she would have to care for, was going to be a different story.

Mira made her way to the horse stables in the market. The stables were especially smelly and loud, and she wanted to make a decision quickly and get out. The supply of horses were low this month, but she spotted a beautiful breed eating its hay quietly in a stall near the back. She cautiously approached the animal, and its dark brown eyes met hers. It continued chewing, and she reached out and stroked the bridge of its nose carefully.

The horse was a beautiful golden-brown, with a slight white stripe running down its forehead and wide nostrils.

Image

It continued to calmly chew its hay while Mira stroked its head. Its ears flickered when she reached out for one, and she smiled.

"Alright, you," she whispered. It would likely look strange to others that she was talking to a horse, if they saw, but she needed to form a bond with this animal - and quickly.

"Where we're going - it may be dangerous. You won't have a cozy stable, with lots of hay to eat, or someone to brush you everyday. But if you can carry me to Zeltiva, I promise we can find you a stable. Just help me get there."

She gave the horse a light pat on the side of its face, and exhaled. Zeltiva would have to do for now. Surely any city would be better than where she was now. She couldn't raise enough funds to keep the small room in the lower levels of Stronghold, and she wasn't about to pay rent for a place her father had owned before he died.

She bought the horse from the stable keeper for 75 gold mizas, as well as a riding saddle for another 10 coins. This left her with only 3 gold mizas left. She would have to find work once she got to Zeltiva.

After asking about the gender of the horse, the stable keeper told her the horse was female, whom he had named Josephine. Josephine apparently had a calm demeanor and Mira instantly felt relieved as she led the horse from the stables. The man helped her secure the saddle on and she quietly led Josephine through the crowded market.

From a fruit stand she bought a pound of apples for 1 gold miza, leaving her with only 2 coins to her name. However, the apples would serve as a good motivator for Josephine when she got tired on the journey. Mira fed her one of the apples with a smile and tucked the rest away in her backpack. She quickly mounted the horse and sat with a leg on either side, her dress draping over the horse's back. It was uncomfortable for now, but she would have to get used to it. Now, the next move was to get out of Stronghold and on her way.

[Syliras Location] The Great Bazaar

Postby Marx Eisenstahl on November 22nd, 2013, 6:26 pm

30th of Autumn, 5013 A.V.

Marx chewed his lip in disgust. He'd travelled to Syliras in search of work, and had found to his dismay that there was none for him. He was forced to spend his last mizas in a desperate plea to reach somewhere he could ply his trade.

The bazaar was a whirling mass of glitter, gold and shouting voices. Each vendor did their utmost to convince Marx that what he really needed was their perfumed soaps, or warming candles, or any manner of useless objects. He brushed past them, and looked around the raucous bazaar.

A small stall caught his eye, and he strode towards it. He talked with the vendor for some time, and then agreed on the price of a wide variety of survival equipment; it came to around 57.105 golden mizas.
Secret :
Splitting Axe | -5 CM
Bedroll | -1 SM
Flint and Steel | -1 GM
1 Person Tent | -2 GM
3 Travellers Stock | -9 GM

Marx stumbled away, wincing at the weight. He dragged it out of the bustling bazaar, taking care not to damage any of it. His life would depend on this equipment when he went into the wilds, and he didn't want to his life to end any sooner than it had to.

Marx sighed, and left the safety of the stall to return to the reeling mass of the bazaar. He rubbed his temple, and set to searching for the right stall.

He did not find it difficult. It was a jumbled heap of pots and ladles and saucepans and most of Syliras, to look at it. A thin and gaunt boy, with clothes several sizes too big whipping around his thin frame looked up at him. He was sat on a carpet, and had utilised one of his wares as a money bag.

Marx selected a relatively well kept cooking pot, and spent a small amount of time haggling on the price.
Secret :
2-quart Cooking Pot | -2 SM

Happy, Marx walked back to his cell in Traveller's Row.

[Syliras Location] The Great Bazaar

Postby Eada Vine on November 23rd, 2013, 12:41 pm

17th of Fall, 513 AV

Eada hadn't been to the Great Bazaar many time since arriving in Syliras, but she loved it here. The rows of shops seemed to overflow with colorful goods and treasures. Eada wore her simple black trousers and white shirt, but she longed for a dress, like the kind she had in Ravok. But those were destroyed. She ran her finger over some dark green material. This was why she didn't come to the bazaar often. It made her want to spend.

"Anything take your fancy?" The storekeeper said, gesturing to the wonderful dresses. Eada sighed at the silky green dress. "That one, for you, will only cost 20 gm." Eada smiled and declined. That was way out of budget, maybe one day, she thought. She didn't even know why she had come here today, to get tempted by the goods? No, she needed some warmer clothes in preparation for winter, particularly if it was going to be as rainy as the last few weeks had been. But silk dresses weren't on her list - unfortunately.

She moved to leave the stall, but something caught the corner of her eye. She reached over and picked it up. It was a dark green hood, fairly soft, with a rim of lace. She twisted her lips. It would keep her warm and it was pretty. "Lovely, isn't it." The shop keeper said. "Made out of Ramie and the dye won't run. The lace came from an old dress I think, but it works so well." Eada narrowed her eyes. "How much?"

The shop keeper seemed to consider. "7 sm, but I'll throw in the leather gloves for 20." Eada narrowed her eyes, she knew how these things worked. "That's ridiculous, I'll pay 13 for both." The shop keeper's eyes widened.

"Come on, child. I've got a family to feed. 15." Eada sighed and nodded, handing over the money. This was why she didn't come to the market very often. She pulled on the gloves as she walked away, with a small smile of her face.

|| 2 Winter, 513 AV

Just a quick little trip, She reminded herself, pulling her coat close to her. She'd made the decision of wearing her dress that morning, not anticipating how hard the icy wind would cut at her. She was yet to head into store, so her movements were quick and calculated, not allowing herself to give a glance at a stall that did not contain what was written on her mental list.

Herbalist supplies was forefront on her mind. To often she'd waste the wares of Mistress Blackleaf, and too often she found herself at home on a day off with little to think on or do. With the growing number of employees in store, she felt that it was time that she began buying bits and pieces for herself - just because there was plenty to go around presently, did not mean that it would remain so for long.

She took a heavy breath and went on with her purchases, managing to avoid a sneer and snarl as she blatantly refused to be lured into buying more than what she'd intended. Of course, that was in most cases. There was the odd tender or two whose words vexed her enough to rekindle a lost love or two, and she, again her better thoughts, jumped on the chance to return herself to studies she'd lost.

By the end of the trip she was holding more than what she could handle, and weather and time permitting, dropped her new belongings home before scuttling back to work.

2nd Of Winter, 513AV

Sei walked through the Bazaar, and looked around. Their had to be something he would want here. He stopped by a mount stall first, and found a lone horse for sale. They were packing up to leave, but there was still one horse left. He walked up to the stall, and decided to speak up to the clerk. She looked elderly, but up to the task.

"Excuse me Ma'am. Aren't you going to sell that one?" he asked.

Without turning around the woman replied. "No one'll take 'im. He's young yet, but a bit to willful."
"I'll take him."
"Really? I'll even give ya a discount! Just take 'im off my hands! Ya can have 'im for just sixty gold mizas!"
"Sold! But I still need the equipment for him. Got anything?"

The woman hurried into her wagon, and came back with a riding saddle with a leather saddle pad.

"Keep the pad and halter for free with the reigns. That'll be seventy gold mizas."

Sei handed the woman the money, and grabbed the halter to guide the horse away.

"I'll name you Breeze." He said, heading to the next stall.

Horse & mount Equipment :
Riding Saddle -10gm
Leather Saddle pad -0gm
Halter & Lead -0gm
Windrunner -60gm

-70gm

A few stalls over, Sei noticed a little armoury/weaponry shop, and decided to look at what they had. He guided Breeze through the crowds, and looked at the merchandise. There was and manikin dressed in a type of armour Sei had seen somewhere before. [i]That's right! Roderick was wearing it in one of our spars. He touched the armour, which felt rough, and noticed how tough the material was. And then there was a bow next to it, but it was smaller than the one he had bought before. He lifted the bow, and to his surprise it was much lighter than his. The merchant eyed him carefully, and asked him if he was interested.

"I'll give you both for seventy-five gold mizas. How about it?" He asked. Sei pondered this and then nodded before handing him the mizas. The merchant removed the armour from the manikin and handed it to Sei. Folding it up, he added it to his rucksack and grabbed the shortbow. With a nod off his head Sei left the Bazaar.

Shortbow -30gm
Lamellar -45gm

Altaira pressed her lips and walked with a light foot, her eyes searching both stores and crowds as she divided her short time spare between seeking an odd thing or two and hoping she'd run into a friend. Work had been rather on the insanely busy side, her lateness in leaving a testament to the fact. Between supplying the ship and crew docked for winter, and selling to those daft enough to fall sick with coughs and colds, there was a constant need to upkeep the greenhouse and craft new salves and droughts.

She'd kept quite the sum of coin with her, her every intention to spend and finally gain a large number of bits pieces she seemed to continually forget to purchase on prior excursions.
