?'s about Charoda Race

Postby Aendea Isadol on November 25th, 2013, 11:59 pm

Hello there, I am sorry to bother you but I have some general questions over the race I have chosen to play that are not covered in the 'Race List'. I seek the information because I am trying to flesh her out and create a character sheet. I want to make sure I stay within the parameters of the race. Any information would be appreciated, thanks!

- What is the average lifespan of a Charoda?
- How long can they stay out of water? (minutes, hours, days?)
- What exactly is a hyteras?
- As of 'today' how socially involved are they with the Mizahar world? The race sheet says they have built their city closer to land but it kind of stops there. I just assume they have some trading posts as well. Does this mean that finding a Charoda walking through the streets of a populated city would be very rare, and that having a Charoda take up a 'job' in a city is unheard of?
- Also, it says that a Charoda loves to hoard things. In the technics of the game can my character start off with a little hoard of trinkets that she already possesses or has inherited, or do I need to start off with nothing and build that up? (this is, of course, alongside the 'start-up' package we receive). I was going to have a bit of her personality play off of this fanatic obsession for shiny things and, since I was wanting for her to be a young adult, thought it would be odd that she *still* didn't have anything hoarded up yet.
- And, if I were to roleplay about aquatic life do I just assume the same stuff live in the oceans as they do here in RL? Is it acceptable around here to make up names for creatures and plants?

So sorry if these are noobish, and I am so sorry if there is already a guide written up that answers them. I have been doing a lot of thread searching and there is just so much out there...! If you can direct me to a guide that sheds more light on this I would love you forever :]

You can find out things like lifespan in the wiki -click me (80 yrs btw)

And as for how long they can stay out of the water, i believe that's been asked before and it was a full day. Slightly longer or shorter depending on humidity and heat. I imagine that's to help you role-play with all the non-aquatic races.

Can't really help with the other questions, sorry :/

I believe Charoda are relatively frequent sights in Riverfall at the least. That's the only city I know of which has aquatic lodgings available, both for them and the Konti/Akontak.

Wow! I've read that wiki over like 4 times and totally missed the little box up in the right corner. Thanks so much!

Great! Thanks so much for this. I will read up on Riverfall then and learn as much as I can.

Alvadas also has aquatic lodging, in the dock section. And Ravok, though hostile to non-humans, rests on a lake, meaning if you could somehow survive the bigoted city you should do fine there too

Hey Aendea!

I figured I'd take a stab at any of your unanswered questions:

  • The length of time a Charoda can stay out of water is dependent on the environment they are currently inhabiting. In Falyndar where the whether is naturally moist and humid even when its not down pouring, you'd be able to stay out of the water much longer than say if you were plopped down in the middle of Ekytol. I would say from these two extremes you'd be able to stay out of water for 48 hours in Falyndar, and only six in Ekytol, so everywhere else is somewhere in between.

  • Hytera's are massive underwater creatures, imagine a chinese dragon without the scales or horns, massively intelligent beings the older they get that could at times work with Charoda, but have yet to be fully developed.

  • Depending on how you spend your starting gold your PC could in theory start out with a mini hoard, but you can also accumulate things throughout game play as well, really that one's up to you!

  • Mostly RL equivalents exist in Mizahar, otters, kelp, eels, etc. That being said there are spots to find Mizahar specific aquatic fauna like here. Also if you are looking to develop aquatic flora or fauna feel free to submit them to the World Development forum or to the Amidst the Canopy forum in Taloba. Charbosi is on my list of developmental projects, but it is sadly last on the list as the region slowly expands. That being said, aquatic content can benefit the whole of Falyndar and I'd be happy to see anything you had in mind.

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me with any other Charoda related questions!
