A Strange Little Salamander
18th of Fall, 513 AV
Off work for the day, Aka was slithering through the tunnels of Zinrah, trying to decided what to do with the rest of her day. A bath in the steam baths could provide the perfect opportunity to loosen some tight muscles from her earth reimancy, perhaps she should check on Yuki, or find Mamuro, whose presence was both a bane, but never lacked being interesting.
The tunnels were rarely crowded, the system much larger than the population that filled them, and Aka was alone, but this was common.
What wasn't common was the strange hissing noise, somewhat like steam from a boiling pot that Aka heard the further she swept down this particular passage. The path she was going to take led up and around toward her chambers, but the hissing was coming from a downward slope.
Deciding to satisfy her curiosity, the viper slid down the tunnel a ways, the sound growing louder with every movement of her tail. After a couple of chimes Aka turned the bend and was faced with the source of the sound, a salamander the size of a medium dog, that was lounging in the middle of the tunnel. Aka knew of these creatures, that shared the depths of the caverns with the Dhani, and were oft hunted by snakelings before they left the nest. This one, looked different, however. It's flesh as a glistening ebony, which was not particularly uncommon, but the dark color of its coat was interrupted by lime green splotches upon its flat head and down it's back.
It also did not entirely explain the noise that she had heard until the salamander turned two beady black eyes towards her and she saw some sort of liquid drip from it's mouth. As it plopped onto the stone floor beneath the creature the hissing began again and steam rose form the rocks, showing that whatever was coming from it's mouth was able to eat through the floor of the cave.
Well that was interesting.
