Garret Sawyer

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Birthday: 27th of Winter, AV 474
Birthplace: Zelvita
Appearance: The mercenary stood at roughly 5'11" and looked around one hundred and ninety five pounds. His face was grim, brooding and so often adorned with a heavy frown. His skin was of a fair complexion, and despite his age he appeared like he had witnessed more summers than he had because of deep set wrinkles and small scars around his face. His eyes were of a sharp, piercing green that had a tendency to dart around, examining his surroundings with interest. His hair was thick and dark, it was rarely clean or trimmed so after a long time it would grow thick and straight from his head and had to be pinned back and secured, but more commonly it was short and ruffled, for both practicality and maintenance. His jaw was adorned with a rough beard, it was barely thicker than stubble but its dark tones made it appear larger than it was.

Received LocationDescription
15th of Winter, AV 513Scar on upper right cheekA long smooth cut stretching across his upper cheek received from a spear.

Character Concept

At his core Garret is a quiet and brooding man, he rarely voices his opinion after years of following his employers’ orders. “Why follow your heart and mind when you can just follow the gold?” he often reminds himself and he has followed his motto to the letter, that doesn’t mean of course he has no opinions but he simply keeps them to himself. Drink rarely brings out his talkative side as well, instead in causes him to spiral into an aggressive mind set like most men.

His true pleasure is violence, where drink fails in coaxing out his voice blood triumphs. After the rush of combat his mood is far more jovial and cheery, though this rush has lead him to become somewhat aggressive over the years, favouring brutal retaliation and action over carefully planned and meditated decisions.

He is a mercenary so an optimist would say his morals inhabit a grey area which allows him to make decisions regardless of losses or ethics involved while someone with a less favourable disposition would call him a common criminal and call the closest guard to string him up. In truth he is a man who prefers gold to people, though even Garret will turn down jobs that he finds unsavoury. He has beaten people up, he has stolen off people and he has killed undesirables for money but he has never killed an “innocent” man or assaulted those who truly had no reason to be harmed.

Character History

Garret was born on 27th of Winter, AV 474 in the great city of Zelvita. He was the son of Daveth Sawyer, a local guardsman of the Waveguard, and Lucia Sawyer, a skilled seamstress. He was third youngest, or oldest, amongst his three brothers and one sister. From a young age he felt that he was the forgotten child. John being the eldest was the only one who received education, the wage of a seamstress and a low ranking guard did not allow for an extravagant lifestyle so naturally only the eldest received a luxury like education. Next Samuel followed, with very little money left it was decided an apprenticeship would be secured for him so they paid the local blacksmith a yearly sum of money to teach the lad the art of the blacksmith. When Garret was born along with his twin sister Meghan it was decided that each parent would teach their trade so while Meghan was being taught by Lucia, Garret under the tutelage of Daveth learned about being a guard.

Needless to say he found his new vocation to be boring, he had little talent in interacting with the common man that made up the rabble and he found the experience to bring him very little enjoyment. That said there was one aspect he enjoyed - Combat. Like his father he favoured the morningstar, he found the distinctive simplicity and brutality of it to be appealing. But even this wasn't enough to keep him in the Waveguard so at the age of nineteen, he stole his father's morningstar and all the money he could find and fled Zelvita.

[The rest of the details to be determined via flashbacks]

Fallon, I didn't thread because I was scared you would kill Garret, I know the rules perfectly. It was simply because I didn't like you, when I logged on and saw a bunch of veterans complaining that they couldImage not find threads and newbies should approach them because they are so much better us new people, I just thought one thing. What a bunch of cunts.

Garret Sawyer

Questionnaire

General Information :

Garret Sawyer.
2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?
Nope so don't try and give me one.
3. How old are you?
40 years and counting.
4. What is your height?
5'11".
5. What is your weight?
Is this really necessary? Fine, 195 pounds...

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.
Average height, perhaps slightly taller than the average man. Manly, y'know broad shoulders, large chest with strong arms and a intimidating face. None of those girly features that soft men have.
2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.
Not attractive, though not offensively unattractive but hardly a looker. A cold, uncaring face with eyes that seemed to confront everyone that they looked at.
3. What is your favourite body feature?
... Do I look like I stare in a bloody mirror all day?
4. How physically fit are you?
I don't layabout all day so yeah I suppose I am pretty fit.
5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?
Trousers and shirts (What else is there?) made of wool, maybe leather at a stretch but none of that silk. Generally dark colours - Browns, dark greens and black.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?
2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Three brothers and one sister that I know of.
3. What is your extended family like?
I don't know... Is family that distant really that important?
4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?
Well chances are they are more useful than close family so probably more important.
5. Do you treat animals like family?
My horse? Sure, he has served me well over the years but any other animal I don't care about unless they are my dinner.

Location :
1. Where were you born?
Zelvita.
2. Where do you live now?
Wherever the gold is.
3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?
On the road.

I am not some bloody noble that has that luxury so no I don't!
5. Where do you fear to be?
Zelvita.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?)
I am getting old... Very few mercenaries retire at a ripe old age.
2. Are you right handed or left handed?
Right handed.
3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent?
Common is my mother tongue, I also know some Fratava since it can come in handy in my line of work. Finally I let a couple of phrases of Nari from a woman I once bedded.
Someone once said my voice sounded like gravel being dragged over a whetstone
In my younger days my Zelvitan accent was pretty strong but nowadays I have been around so much you can barely tell it is there.
4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
After I have shed blood my accent... It can get pretty strong to say the least.
5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them)?
Some things are best left unsaid.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?
In a nutshell I am a hired thug.
2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?

3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?
Never really thought about it... Rich I suppose.
4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?
My job because I am the one who has to put up with the shit it brings.
5. What occupation do you least like? Why?
Scholars because they are a bunch of weak, pathetic layabouts who got all the attention from the pare- Next question.

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you?
I was the under-appreciated one.
2. What is your favourite memory from childhood?
Watching my dad smash out a criminals kneecap while I shadowed him on patrol.

3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities?
Training from my father then from experience when I left home.

5. What are your educational goals for the future?
None at all.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not?

Ale, beer, cider, bitter, whisky y'know things like that.
4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them?
Nope, apart from some pipeweed every now and again I don't take anything
5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific.
Make your question more specific, I couldn't give a rat's arse about drugs and alcohol. If people want to take them that is fine by me, it is none of my bloody business.
