”Ah, so you can talk to me,” he quipped as she finally spoke. He didn’t know the girl well enough to have a read on her meaning. It was entirely possible Ellen thought herself better than he; she wouldn’t be the first teenager to have an issue with the older squire, nor would she be the last. A few lucky shots while he was learning the feel of another weapon and suddenly they were on top of the world, riding Orion’s back the entire way.

He could let that happen, now could he?

Orion’s shield remained at the ready as he observed his fellow squire at work. She was tense and uncertain in her skill. The way she kept shifting her grip didn’t strike him as someone who was trying to keep her enemy off guard. Dinah did that to him when they were sparring. Her stance changed constantly to force him to adjust on the fly. With his sparring partner, it was nowhere near the same. Blue eyes flitted from her hands to her face to her legs as he waited for her first sign of aggression.

He was somewhat surprised by the way she went about attacking him. Despite having a shield strapped to her arm, the blonde squire went about trying a two handed swing. It came at Orion rather awkwardly, but with his shield ready, he prepared himself to deal with it. Shuffling his feet to the right Orion met her strike with his shield, angling the barrier he held to help try and redirect her strike towards the ground. By moving his center of gravity and not taking the blow directly, it saved him energy and made it simpler to create a glancing blow.

Additionally, it allowed him to have a little bit of fun. Instead of striking, Orion stepped inside of her attack, moving his face a few inches from hers. ”Why don’t we make this a little more interesting? Loser has to do whatever the winner wants. Within some reason, I suppose.” He bit his bottom lip, engorging the fleshy skin, turning it red as he applied the pressure. With a teasing wink, the squire backed away from Ellen, drawing the ire of the Weaponmaster.

”Orion,” Lucius growled. ”What did I tell you? Stop wasting both of our time. You need to take this seriously.”

Orion half shrugged at the Weaponmaster before giving a sheepish grin and a bow of his head. ”Forgive me, Weaponmaster Lucius. If the aim of this was to make it a competition, I have a bit of a thing for high stakes. Squire Ansgot here doesn’t have to accept, but I figure with the lead in our little game, she’s got to get one hit before I get two.” He leveled his gaze on Ellen, eyes twinkling mischievously. ”The odds seem pretty good there, wouldn’t you agree?”

”Just get back to it!”

”Yes, Ser.”

Orion nodded to Ellen, taking up a wide base stance once more. Regardless of whether she accepted his absurd little wager, he would be ready for their next conflict.

[Antinous Training Grounds] A Clash of Blades (Ellen)

She had tried, oh how she had tried. Ellen had wanted to throw the fight, giving Orion a chance to prove himself in front of the patronizing weaponmaster. Instead he continued to prove himself more of a child than she. First he sidestepped her obviously terrible attack, and refused to follow up to receive a point of his own. Instead Orion made a fool of himself by making a stupid "wager." She wasn't stupid, she knew exactly what he meant. He was gloating about it too, waving around like he was so confident that he would win.

At the same time, it made her rather sad. With this wager, he had told her that she was so far below him, she could have anything she wanted if she somehow had the miracle opportunity of beating Orion. Emotions weren't something Ellen dealt with however. She showed no sign of pain, or confidence. There was only, if anything, a bit of anger in her eyes. She would have him regretting the moment he conjured the idea to make a bet. If he was so sure that he'd win the fight, Ellen would do her best to shock him with the results. No more kindness, she wouldn't give a second thought to throwing the match for such a low minded man.

"I suppose it shouldn't be too hard to win. You're about as dull as a platonic lover, so one point shouldn't be too hard." Ellen leaned really far over in the direction of Orion and gave him a very overly exaggerated wink, obviously making fun of him. She gave a couple audible laughs, making sure Orion knew how funny Ellen thought herself. She was just upset, and mocking him seemed like a good way to release her steam, without clouding her judgment in a fight. Perhaps it might even affect his fighting, giving her an advantage in the fights. Suddenly realizing she was smiling, Ellen forced herself back to her common straight faced self. Not often did she allow herself to participate in such banter, mostly feeling as though it were childish. This was an exception, and only allowed so that she may refocus herself to fight.

Seeing his stance, noting his nod to signal his eagerness to get this fight started again, Ellen began to debate how she would overcome her opponent for one more point. She only had a problem when Orion's offense was too quick for her to overcome. Her reaction time wasn't the best yet with her sword and shield, but there was a dire need to come up with some kind of plan to beat this squire. Recalling on everything she had learned since she was a child, everything her patron had taught her, Ellen paced for just a moment, and then somehow magically found that place on her longsword. If she grabbed the hilt just below the guard, it felt as though she had much more control over the blade. With the idea of control, an idea came to her mind, and suddenly she was ready to fight.

Turning to her infuriatingly immature adversary, she gave her own nod. Beginning her advance a bit slowly, she prepared her weapon, grabbing it in that same spot she had noticed felt easier to control from. She swung her sword on the low right, seeming to go for the legs a fourth time. This time, it was a feint, and if Orion were to attempt to block it, Ellen would take complete advantage of the moment, and attempt to land a solid kick on his midsection. Ellen was hoping that the repeat of her common attack would ensure the misdirection was successful, allowing her to catch Orion off guard and land him in the dirt. She wanted to end this now, before he had a chance to retaliate.

At this point, it didn't matter who won. It just needed to be over. Once more Lucius had gotten under Orion's skin with the little games he played with him. Toying with him and probing at his mental strength. While Orion felt that he clearly outclassed the younger woman in all things martial, his mind was a different story. Young Ellen Ansgot carried herself with the dignity and class of someone raised in the knights, stark in contrast to Orion. Her mental toughness would likely put his to shame.

It did, however, bring him some bit of amusement to have her try and toss him a retort. "You're bored by platonic relationships, too? Maybe w'eve got a little in common, then. Better not lose this bet or I might have to show you how great a lover I can be." Orion's smirk remained on her lips, even as Ellen struggled to regain her composure. It had to be a bit of a shock to deal with someone like him. He was far from professional, and he was certainly not cut from the common mold of other knights.

Weaponmaster Lucius watched the two squires bicker, joining them in annoyance to create a trio of frustrated warriors. "That's ENOUGH," he bellowed loudly, causing Orion to lose his focus on the spar for a moment. He wasn't taking it serious, and his cancerous attitude seemed to be infecting a promising squire. He wouldn't allow it. "Finish this spar. Do not allow yourself to be corrupted by this man, Squire Ansgot. Stay true to your virtues and hopefully this man will someday see the light, the error of his ways."

Orion couldn't contain his scowl as the weaponmaster once again spoke down to him. Was it simply that he was one of the oldest squires in the order that he was singled out so? Lucius wouldn’t give Orion an inch within the training grounds, constantly using words like ‘corrupt’ and ‘ruin’ with him in relation to other squires. It was just another one in the order who didn’t believe that Orion was really, legitimately trying to become something more.

Yes, he was far from a finished product, but it didn’t make it sting any less.

Turning his attention from the weaponmaster, Orion once again motioned for Ellen to attack him. Slowly she circled him, and he barely moved to keep her in front of him. If Lucius wanted this fight over, he’d be happy to oblige him. When Ellen tried to repeat her same attack for a fourth time, Orion was having none of it. He reared back with his blade and brought it slamming down on top of hers, trying to drive the weapon into the ground.

The kick was signaled from a million miles away. Awkward, unbalanced, but Orion didn’t move. He wasn’t sure he could have if he wanted to. As the sole of her foot contacted his side, the squire immediately sprang into action, lunging towards Ellen. Weaponmaster Antinous’ voice rang out in protest. ”Orion, the fight’s over! Three hits to Squire Ansgot!”

Orion knew the battle was over. He just wasn’t going to let her get the last laugh. Hooking his fingers in the top of her armor, the taller man pulled Ellen close, bringing his lips just next to her ear. ”Just let me know when you want to collect on the bet. It’ll be a bit more fun without Lucius around, I’m sure.” He released her, giving her a slight push back. Orion turned where he stood and began to walk away from his sparring partner and the weaponmaster. ”It’s simply been a joy. Thank you for this wonderful lesson, Weaponmaster. I feel so much better for the wisdom you imparted on my wicked soul.”

[Antinous Training Grounds] A Clash of Blades (Ellen)

Postby Ellen Ansgot on November 30th, 2013, 11:22 am

The trades with Orion were fun, and for once in quite some time, Ellen found herself actually enjoying the company of an almost complete stranger. Obviously though, it had made Lucius mad. Ellen had allowed herself to get distracted, understanding why she was being scolded. Refocusing her mind wasn't difficult as she had much practice with doing such a thing. Emotions weren't often allowed past the idea, and rarely did she ever express them to another person. Filtering emotions out, she continued with the combat.

When her kick landed, Ellen was almost surprised. Orion reacted so quickly to her feint that it actually failed, but he accepted the blow none the less. It was an easy tell that he was done with Lucius, and herself. Orion wanted out. After the connection the fight didn't seem to stop when the other squire lunged back at her. Afraid for her safety, Ellen almost yelped at the speed and actions Orion took. He came close, and whispered in her ear. Suddenly, Ellen felt terrible. A pool of strong emotions flooded through her while she was in this scared state. What Orion said upset her because she knew that he had let her win, it wasn't even worth winning the bet to him. She was angry, scared, confused, let down, relieved, upset, but most of all sorry.

Everything had just happened in a flash catching Ellen off-guard which caused all of these intense emotions and thoughts to suddenly run into her mind. She wanted to suppress them, but it was too late as they dug homes in her mind, and continued to create intricate paths of possibilities. She was so intensely confused, and unsure of what to do. Orion said something but she didn't quite make it out, but he sounded upset. She could follow him, let him know how bad she felt, how she didn't want to make him look bad in front of Lucius. Lucius wouldn't approve of that though, she couldn't bring herself down while she was in such an emotional state. She wanted to scream, to say she was sorry, to yell at Lucius for being so mean, but she did none of these.

"Thank you Lucius, I hope our fighting was satisfactory, I learned much from the experience." Surprisingly calm for her raging level of feelings. She left swiftly after getting the slightest acknowledgment from Lucius, and headed straight for her dorms. Hot, sweaty, emotional, and the armor was getting heavier by the second. Ellen walked at a swift pace, almost a run, heading towards her room. Upon arrival, she took off her armor, storing in the chest at the end of her bed. Moving slowly, easily, controlling all of her movements as delicately as she could. Rising from the packing away of her things, she went out into the common rooms.

Most squires were eating now, or still in the training grounds. There was only one other girl in the common room, who's name she never had bothered to learn. Ellen didn't waste any time in the common rooms though, and headed straight to the bathing room. She disrobed, and slid slowly into the water. Being in water had always helped calm her down when she had bad days but she never knew why. Eventually dunking herself completely under the water, knowing exactly what was coming. Ellen was stressed, emotional, and upset with everything this day had brought her. Odd, knowing herself well enough, she should have paid closer attention to everything that was going on, she shouldn't have let herself get so caught up in having fun. She wanted to cry. This was the reason she sealed herself off from others, the reason she had few friends, the same reason some disliked her. It was worth avoiding all of this though, especially this.

She may as well have tried to stop rain itself.

Notes :
Nice job you two. Wonderful. Ellen be careful not to god mod. You can't make decisions for other players and given that you have only 10 in sword you couldn't knock his sword away so easily.
