Lilly didn't look back when Orion called. The man was a buffoon, and not worth a lick of her time. She'd tried to take care of him when he was down, tried to offer him an ear he could talk to when he was so obviously struggling with something in his life, and he'd spit it all back in her face. Why was he such a cruel man? She'd thought he didn't belong in the order because of his kindness, but she'd considered that concept a lot lately. It turned out he was just a dick. Maybe he would fit right in as long as he was that way to everyone.
"Lilly, please! Slow down!" Orion had set off on a jog after her, a trail of disgusting gruel leaving a trail behind him as he moved along. He had to catch up with her and just talk to her, for a moment. ”Come on! We cannot leave things like this!” Gods, when was the last time Orion was chasing after a woman? Usually he was the one walking away and leaving a flustered person behind. It felt like shyke to be on the receiving end for once. Why was he even going after her?
Lilly winded through the hallways of the dormitories, ignoring Orion when did finally catch up with her. The thought crossed her mind to tell him off again, but it didn’t appear he was getting the idea at all. Maybe he could just talk himself to exhaustion. That would save her the trouble.
Falling into step with her, the blue eyed squire tried as he could to get her to at least acknowledge him. ”What do you want from me, Lilly? You had to have some purpose, or do you just fuck with people as a hobby?” Some of the younger squires whom had viewed their initial spat could be heard following the two adults. There wasn’t drama like this to view every day, though Orion would disagree strongly with that idea. He seemed to be a beacon for dislike and drama, with people whose names he didn’t know having strong opinions on him.
The pattering of feet was pushed aside, as Orion focused on Lilly, and Lilly focused on getting to her room where she could just be done with him for the day. They were bound to run into one another, but at least she could catch a brief respite. When her suite came into view, she finally relaxed a little. If her suitemates were there, it would be so much easier to deal with.
”Petch off, Orion. I don’t want to deal with you right now,” she said, a biting tone to her words. Orion nearly recoiled from the venom which dripped from reply, but when she tried to disappear behind the safety of her door, he had to react. Lilly grasped her door handle, opened the door just enough for her to squeeze through, and slide through, trying to slam it shut behind her.
Orion lunged forward with his foot, wincing as he found himself caught between a rather heavy door and the door’s frame. His boots weren’t nearly thick enough to cushion the blow of her slamming it, the pinning force the only thing stopping from collapsing to the ground. ”Shyke! Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, please open the door! Fuck!”
The giggles of the youth echoed throughout the hall. A dirty glance down the corridor sent them back around the corner from which they were peeking, but the whispers betrayed their position. Orion didn’t have time to deal with them, however, considering the intense pain he was being put through as the squire on the other side of the door had put her weight fully against the access. ”Gods, I won’t try and get in, just let me out of the petching door!”
He could feel the shifting of weight as the girl moved slightly away from the door, opened it enough to give Orion a shove, and then slammed it behind him. The shove dislodged him from his position and sent him stumbling backwards and giving him a rather unceremonious meeting with the stone floors of the squire’s dormitory. His rear took the brunt of the force, a rather uncomfortable feeling, but it wasn’t like he’d avoided tumbles like this in the past.
”Just go away,” came her voice, soft, tired, and muffled by the door. ”Haven’t I made it clear that I’m finished dealing with you and your despic-“
”I took a job from Peyton Morothon, Lilly, and it’s been tearing me up, okay?” Hiss timbre was uncertain, volume low, but it seemed she’d heard him, because she stopped talking. Everything fell silent. Nothing from the eavesdropping squires, nothing from Lilly. Just the rhythmic sound of Orion’s breathing. He could hear his heart trying to escape his chest, as well, and it felt so powerful that it may as well have been audible. There weren’t many in the city who hadn’t heard of Peyton Morothon and his exploits. While he was never caught doing anything illegal, there was a certain shady quality about any dealings with him. There was nothing good which could come from a squire working with him.
”I know, it’s stupid, but I didn’t know what to do. Can I..Ugh. I don’t want to talk about it like this. It’s just..I’m leaving. Whatever. Sorry to ruin your day.” Orion dragged himself slowly to his feet, ignoring the throbbing in his foot and bottom. The pain would subside in time, both the physical and his destroyed friendship with Lilly. He didn’t need her, and it some ways he’d managed to move past the outcome of his work for the sleazy Mr. Morothon, but sometimes when he slept he could still see the face of the poor sod who’d been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Guilt tore him up and left him a mess in an alleyway just a few days back. There was no reason to go through it again.
Slowly, he turned and began to make his way aimlessly down the hall. He needed to get cleaned up anyways. What was the point in trying to explain himself to her? She didn’t care about him, she wanted to be done with him, just as she said.
If that were the case, though, why did he hear her door opening once more?
”…Hey, wait.”
Orion stopped in his tracks, blue eyes drifting to look at his feet. Now she wanted to talk. Juicy information always made a conversation more interesting, right?
”Come here you idiot.” It was just like her. Always so endearing.
