Counting Corpses

Anna's eyes gazed up and down the rows of drawers, fiddling with her quill as she estimated exactly how many new bodies were here. Mathematics had never exactly been her field of study, it seemed to orderly and rigid with no fluctuation. Set in stone and unchanging, the antithesis of what she herself was. She was ever changing, though usually for the negative as her mind fell deeper and deeper into depravity and evil. Ever since the 88th however, it had really stopped bothering her how corrupt she had become.

The Rubellum Chamber was somewhat somber compared to the rest of the Palsa Hydrasa, though considering its purpose that was understandable really. Each stone drawer came out to reveal a body frozen in ice, the method employed still very much a mystery to Anna. When she gained mastery over reimancy then perhaps it would be something she herself could explore, if for no other reason than to know some Amaryllis preferred that she didn't. The petching Nuit needed a bit of humbling in her mind, to realize exactly how powerful a sorceress she was controlling.

Treachery for another day, today she had a job to start. Another shipment of corpses had arrived today, another batch of bodies to catalogue for Amaryllis. It was a simple job really, stress free in many ways as the nature of the corpses failed to bother her any longer. The corpses under the ice didn't plot against her, not until they were given to a Nuit at least. Then they plotted her downfall, yes, the petching undead thought they were able to slip the plots past her. Who would be laughing when she ruled them all with Rhysol's blessing?

Anna pinched her brow, her thoughts were more disorganized as of late. That wasn't good for a Chaon, she needed at least some clarity for her actions. Rhysol needed followers who could act and think effectively, yet her own mind was far more of a mishmash of chaos. Sahova had not allowed her to live unscathed or unscarred.

The tall woman strode up to the first stone drawer and pulled it out, her quill at the ready as she looked over the corpse. It was a young child, a girl if Anna was to be the judge of things. Black hair splayed out frozen and unmoving in the icy prison and blue eyes staring lifelessly up at Anna. Her mind was brought to Tsaba, the Nuit had worn the corpse of a child when the sorceress had last seen her. Teaching her then had been a little... awkward as the idea of Nuits switching bodies had only really sunk in at that point. Regardless Anna didn't note anything other than the age that looked distinctive.

Anna slid the frozen corpse back into its holding place, honestly not really understanding why any Nuit would want a child's corpse. It was so fragile, easily broken, though perhaps to them it was like picking an article of clothing. Everyone had different tastes. The sorceress herself liked to imagine she'd rather only have bodies similar to her current one, her height giving her an advantage in intimidation and confidence. People normally had to look up to her, which amused her greatly.

That line of thought thrown aside the tall woman opened the next drawer, examining its contents. The subject within was another human, male this time with a rather fit body and broad shoulders. The corpse possessed not hair and, upon closer inspection Anna noted that he was missing his left eye. A few scars littered his body, most notable being a crisscrossing one on his cheek. Interesting...

As the woman noted these things it occurred to her once again that either Amaryllis was supremely confident or very stupid to place Anna here. Especially since she knew her faith, as well as her blessing from the Lord of Lies. It honestly wouldn't be all that difficult for her to simply curse the ice itself, or perhaps the bodies underneath. Rhysol's blessing, even as small as hers was, could be particularly devastating if employed correctly. It was very tempting, however the Embalmer would know exactly who had done it and it would only be quick trip from here to the Dungeons. Better to continue to observe and prepare. Soon, very soon, she would be in a better position to subvert the Pulsers of this place. Celeste was the exception, at least for now.

The Sorceress sent another cursory glance over to seek anything else of notability, before placing the corpse back in its spot. From here Anna looked down the row, it was going to be a long day.
