AppearanceRace: Symenestra
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Birthday: Day 8, Spring, 487 AV.
Birthplace: Kalinor
Appearance: Scrawny, even for a widow, Ayara stands at a shade over five feet. It would be difficult to mistake her for anything other than one of the Symenestra, with her solid grey skin, golden eyes, and the claws and fangs. She does not trim her toenails, preferring open-toed footwear or simply going barefoot to making the slightest concession to human culture. Her hair is pitch black and goes down to her waist. There is quite a lot of it, and it refuses to be tamed. She’s a spider with a glorious mane. Walks with a limp, and usually relies on a cane to make life easier. Her hands are extremely dexterous and dotted with faint scars.
Character ConceptAyara is a big gay nerd. Enthusiastic about pretty much anything and everything. Sees knowledge as its own reward and seeks knowing for knowing’s sake. Can, will, and has argued philosophical minutiae with an infant. Lost an argument to a two year-old once when the kid started crying and she had to leg it before anybody came asking uncomfortable questions like “Why would you challenge a human child to recite the Viratassa?” or “Why are you shouting at that baby?”
She is a font of practical knowledge and useless factoids in equal measure. She has an excellent memory, a sharp mind, and a sadistic streak, preferring her prey conscious and screaming. Long-term, Ayara aims to gain a more complete understanding of the universe and its mechanisms, and a wife. Short-term she’ll settle for an eager lover and a decent workshop. Some underlings, maybe. Big fan of Eyris and Nikali.
Character HistoryBorn and raised in Kalinor, Ayara spent most of her time in the Cribellum, devouring its contents and turning to the gleaned when the Cribellum itself wasn’t enough. She was a born scholar, bristling with whys and hows, usually more interested in the theory of a thing than the practice of it. She was a fixture at the Cribellum, at workshops, apothecaries, any seat of specialized knowledge she could charm, lie, or outright sneak herself in. Some were charmed by her curiosity, and indulged it. She learned the rudiments of multiple magics and gained a firm if specialized grasp of common at an early age. Her father was a tattoo artist, and her mother was a weaver. Her surrogate was food.
Eventually she joined the gleaning, and her eclectic knowledge proved a valuable tool when it came to filling in gaps at the Cribellum. Later, the harvesting, where she found a deep satisfaction in the hunt, and a quickening of new urges and the release of a tension she hadn’t known she’d carried. She relished every opportunity to travel Mizahar in search for knowledge, but the questions burned too hot in her for her to simply rely on the gleanings for answers. So she left. The years she spent wandering Mizahar honed her mind to a fine edge before she finally found herself in Syliras, where she settled, opting for a (slightly) safer life skimming the bubbles of the melting pot.
