Location:Apartment
Reason:Philtering

Ben had woken up earlier than usual since today he had a job to do. Ben walked over to the wardrobe opening it he took his usual red cotton robe and and his silver perfume bottle pendent representing Cheva. He laid them on the bed slowly and carefully taking great care not to put any creases on the robe since it would create even more work to do, Ben decided now wasn't a great time to start work and would rather spend the early morning to have a little treat. Ben lay on the bed on the right hand side to avoid the robe and rolled over slightly looking directly down at he chest that lay next to the bed. Ben tried his hardest to reach the chest but the effort was pointless, Ben just gave up maybe he was just to lazy today to do any form of work, Ben rolled over again back into his original position facing the celling he began to drift back off to sleep and two minutes later, Ben's vision was filled with darkness he had fallen a sleep and any hope of finishing this project in one day was just gone.

Upon waking up waking at least 1 hour and a half later, Ben looks to his left spotting his robe he began scratching his head thinking on how his robe and pendant got there he had no idea of anything that happened over an hour ago. Ben had a throbbing pan in his head he knew how to cure headaches the only problem was he had no mint and by mint he means peppermint. Ben knew he had to go out and buy the the ingredients, get some water for the waterskin and set up the Philtering kit and unfortunately Ben wasn't up for it but one thing he did have was his pipe and tobacco. Ben took a long time getting up from the bed today, Ben was going to take things nice and slow. Ben walked over to where his robe lay, upon picking up his robes he slipped it on with no difficulty, Ben felt more comfortable with his robes on than without. Ben looked around for his pipe but couldn't find it anywhere so he moved in to the living area where there was a table and a chair facing the hearth. On the table lay a wooden plate next to a tankard with a empty wine bottle and in the far corner was his backpack, saddlebag and his scrollscase detached from the backpack, Ben looked around for his shoes so he could go out to the grand bazzar to buy what he needed his shoes where in the corner with the rest of his equipment, Ben tucked his pendent under his robes hiding it from view. Ben exited the apartment and locked the door went to the very end of the hall to where the receptionist and left travellers row heading towards the grand bazzaar.

70th summer, 510
Location:Grand Bazaar

Ben felt the chill of the wind as he stepped outside of the main area market and put up his hood to gain some sort of resistance to the "cold" maybe this was because he spent most of his time inside or he was sick and needed treating. Ben headed towards this stall selling various herbs, Ben memorized the list of things he wanted he wanted.

Sage 1lb
mint1lb
Fill up water skin
Wine

Ben approached the stall slowly and tried his best avoiding big crowds which was slightly difficult, Ben hated large crowds because it would get the bottom of his robes dirty as Ben got closer he spotted the sage.

"Hallo kind merchant may i have a pound of sage?"

The merchant placed a small brass weight on one side of he scale which on top of the weight it read 1lb . The merchant also scooped up some sage and put it on the other side of the scale. after two minuets of weighing the merchant took the sage and placed it in a small leather bag.

"Anything else" The merchant seemed as though he suffers from lack of sleep.

"ermm yes have you got any Peppermint?"

The merchant goes round to the side of the stall and goes through the same procedure as before. Ben on the other hand was sniffing the sage, it had a really strong smell and Ben could tell it was fresh.

"How much would that be?"

"4sm 8cm for them mint and 1gm 6sm for the sage"

Ben handed over the money with no further ado next on the list was mead then go and get the water on the way back walking slowly Ben decided he might as well browse while he was here because he knows he is going to be lazy to come back out. Ben walked past a stool and spotted a robe with deep pockets it was made of silk and was a dark green colour and then he thought to himself the pockets would be useful for carrying his pipe and potions. Ben thought long and hard as to weather he should get it or not in the end he thought it would be a good buy. Ben looked at the robes he was wearing and the bottom of it had dirt on it, Ben's face filled with anger he hated washing because it took too much time out of his day.

"Could i take a look at the robe?"

Ben picked up the robe it felt very soft in his hands he had never had a robe made with such quality, Ben was just hoping it won' cost him a fortune.

"How much would this cost?"

"5 silver"

Ben was suprised at the price he had no need to haggle and was quite happy about it since he was terrible at it he quickly placed placed the money in the woman's hand and walked of quickly he knew where he was headed to next the vintners. Ben had a long walk to get to the vintners stall to get the wine he required for the potion he was making. His cold stared kicking in his nose began to run, Ben wiped the snot on the inside sleeve of his robe he had to wash them anyway. Ben walked up to the vintners took a bottle of wine and placed the 10 gold on the stool.

[Solo/Training] Physician or not?

Location: Apartment

Upon arriving back at the apartment with everything he needed, Ben opened the door walked in and shut it took his shoes of and walked to his backpack and placed the herbs on the floor and the robe in the saddle bag . This gave him less to carry picking up the backpack and scrollcase Ben felt as though he was going to be sick he finally realized he wasn't well he moved towards the table at a slow pace. He sat down with the backpack in his lap he moved the plate on the floor to make room for a bowl and filled the tankard with water which he was going to heat to make a peppermint tea to rid him of his headache. The Philtering kit would take only minutes to set up but Ben needed to first find out what he had been infected with first. Ben pulled out his book on medicine towards the back of the book it had simple recipes for illnesses and also provided some information on symptoms on some common illnesses . Turning to page 113 he began to read he page.
Looking for and treating a cold

Symptoms of a cold: runny nose, sensitivity to weather conditions, nausea runny eyes , vomiting and lack of energy

Making a potion to help fight symptoms

You will need
Sage
Mint any kind (optional also helps blockages in the nose helps ease headaches)
wine (a stronger kind will help speed the process)
Water

1.place some cold water in a bowl and wash the herbs
2.place the clean sage in a bowl of any alcohol for a few hours
3.Grind the Sage into a powder
4.Wrap the powdered sage in the mint leaves leave for a hour
5.Boil some water and place in a glass vial 1oz
6.unwrap sage and place in vial to make a watery solution
7.Let cool

The sage would have taken on the properties of the mint also
take twice a day until better

To Ben this seemed to be very time consuming for now he would just have peppermint tea to help the headache for now and make the Philter tomorrow and have some rest he had discovered he has a cold and he felt down any form of cleaning would have to wait to he feels better. Ben took the tankard to the hearth to heat the water. Once the was was heated Ben placed a small amount of peppermint into the tankard then to let the tea steep before drinking it. When he tea was ready Ben picked up his pipe and placed a small amount of tobacco into it the tobacco had to last until he was fit enough to travel small distances he lit the pipe and took one puff after the other once he was finished he turned to the tea that was ready for drinking. Ben left half of the tea in the tankard. It was getting dark outside since Ben had no windows telling the time of day is seems to be much more difficult than usual, Ben didn't care if it what time of day it was he walked off to bed slowly and within minuets she was a sleep tomorrow he was to make the potion he needed to he needed get better.

[Solo/Training] Physician or not?

Postby Ben Traven on August 15th, 2010, 3:25 pm

It was 10am when Ben had woken up and the first thought that went through his mind was im late, Ben tried to rush to the living area only to meet the floor face first and one thing he discovered was he was weaker than usual and the fact that his legs was still asleep wasn't much help,Ben struggled to get up off the floor to get his work done all thought the increased effort was pointless in his state it seemed he had flu rather than a cold. Walking into the living area Ben used the walls as supports to avoid meeting the floor when, Ben reached the table he gripped the chair so it could take his weight to help make sitting down much easier. Once Ben had sat down he took two bowls he had laid out the day before and filled one with wine and the other with water.

Ben opened his book back to page 113 and followed he steps required to make the medicine he waned. Ben took some of the Sage and placed it in the bowl with water and moved it around, once he thought it was good enough he transferred the sage into the bow filled with wine and the instruction said leave for a hour. Ben thought why not take a nap, Ben rested his head on the table although this wasn't very comfortable he fell asleep within seconds and the only thing Ben could see was darkness not even a single dream for the two hours he had been sleeping. Upon waking Ben tried to remember what he had been doing all he saw was two bowls and then it came across him medicine. Ben quickly took the sage which was now purple and placed it in his mortar and pestle and ground the sage into a very fine powder. next he took two mint leaves and placed a equal amount of sage in each before tying the leaves with bits of thread from his robes. For the hour Ben had he decided to read he book he had laying on the table turning to page 50 he read.

When dressing wounds make sure the wound is cleaned properly or other wise infection may follow which could make the patient very ill or even death may follow......

Ben finished from pages 50 to 125 in forty-five minuets for the last fifteen he decided pipe and tobacco would be a good way to kill time until he found he only had a small amount which he wanted to save for a journey home when the time comes. Then images entered his head "home" then followed images of wind reach. Snapping out of it Ben to off the leaves around the sage which left a big pile of powder in the middle of the table. Ben struggled to get up taking the rest of the water to be heated he placed it in a pot over the hearth which he used for cooking while standing he thought his legs felt heavy, after two minuets the water was heated to the appropriate level. Be walked over to his filtering kit and went through it too look for a 1oz vial he found one right at the bottom when trying to stand up , Ben heard a click in his back followed by intense pain but he had to finish the medicine he walked over to the pot containing the water and dipped the vial in the water burning himself slightly, Ben quickly took his hand out with the vial full of water walking back over to the table he pain in his back got worse. Once Ben reached he table Ben scooped up as much of the powder he could and placing it in he vial then placing the cork on top his work was now finished he could rest walking slowly back into the bedroom ye again using the walls as support. Upon reaching the bedroom Ben placed his newly made medicine on in the chest to allow it to cool. Ben climbed into the bed with the robes on he had no energy to take them off looking at the ceiling with a big smile on his face he should have known wizards never give up and now he could have his well earned rest.

[Solo/Training] Physician or not?

Thread Award!

Ben Traven
Exp +1 Reading, +1 Philtering, +1 Medicine
Lore Cost of a Common Cold

The price you named in the Thread (second post) is inaccurate and unacceptable. Below I listed the change required to be made in your CS for the spices. If you wish to check it yourself, you can check the Price List. Also, the price you paid for the robe is too much. I mean, you can spend an additional 6 gold on it if you wish, but it's only 5 gm.

-1 gm 6 sm for 1 lb of Sage
-4 sm 8 cm for 1 lb of Mint
-5 gm for Silk Robe
-10 gm for Bottle of Fine Wine
Total Income: -17 gm 8 cm

Additional Comments Nice thread there. I apologize for taking so long to get this graded. I have been busy. If you have any questions or comments or concerns, feel free to PM me and we can work it out. Thanks for your patience and keep up the good work!
Bad News Everybody. School is picking up, Exams are beginning to happen, homework is growing time consuming, I may soon be evicted from my apartment, I'm dealing with severe and physical fights among several of my best friends, and I can't seem to find a time to get much needed sleep. I'm terribly sorry, but don't expect to see much of me for a long while.
