History:
Therizo was born on Blackrock in the night of the 64th day of winter in the year 493AV to a young man named Mathiatias, who came to the island citadel on scholarly business and fell enamored by its culture, and a devout of Dira, Lateria Tafos from a native family of four generations. Therizo spent the better part of his childhood immersed in the cult of the goddess of death, studying the dead with his father and Dira’s philosophy with his mother.
His days were mostly uneventful until the age of 18 when his mother fell prey to an illness that confined her to her bed, confining with her Mathiatias, who spent most of his days at her side. At first, he was concerned but convinced that her recovery was forthcoming; but as Lateria’s health turned worse and worse with each passing day, his conviction turned to desperate denial. The words of the healer who confirmed with all the serenity of a Dira’s acolyte that - “there is nothing to be done,” - were met with pleas of desperation and mad demands when the first had no effect. Even Lateria herself could not allay him with her words of comfort and gentle reminders that death is but a new beginning. Instead, he insisted that she would stay with him and Therizo as a ghost, to which she gave merely a sad smile.
All the while Therizo continued his lessons with a teacher that his mother had appointed, and as she requested, only stopped to see her with a daily report of what he was learning. He presumed that it was to keep him from seeing his father in his desolate state that seemed sometimes worse than that of his mother.
Eventually Lateria passed away with her husband frantically pleading her to remain with him as a spirit. After her death, Mathiatias spent the next two years waiting for her to come back to him, scarcely speaking. Therizo was left to mostly fend for himself and support his father. His tutor found him a job at the graveyard as a sexton, charged with laying to rest the dead of Blackrock. Alongside his job he continued his studies and perusing his desire to become one of the mysterious masked guardians of the island. To that end, his tutor got him in touch with an arms master with whom he practiced with light swords.
When two years past, Mathiatias’s hope was depleted, and he could no longer stand the sight of Blackrock and the ‘death worshipping cultists’ that he blamed for Lateria’s ultimate decision. He took Therizo, despite his protests, and rented a ship to Zelitva, where he hoped to start a new life with a few mizas and a sizable portion of ashl. When they arrived however, the ashl where no longer on his person, which meant that they could not afford a home. With what mizas they had, they took sail to Sunberth where they now reside in a run-down apartment. |
