Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

45th of Winter, 513

A lot has been on Orabelle's mind. Firstly, she had been thinking of the whole nakivak thing and while sitting in a tavern had discussed it with an old woman who was, once in the program but had been released since she couldn't bare any more after her first Akalak child. The woman had told her it was worth it. There's a great deal of benefits, she had said, and you become very important to the city.

Now Orabelle was in lapis park, her sweet gaze fell upon a large and smooth lapis stone sitting in a pond. She sat on a bench, and to take her mind off the whole nakivak thing, she tried to think of what such a beautiful stone would represent. But the mixed blood was no genius. She gave up imagining what the rock could represent and went back to thinking about being a nakivak.

It was beneficial, it was exciting - to her- and it could be dangerous. Especially for someone made of two fragile races. From what she heard, mixed bloods and humans were most common and a lot don't survive after the first child. Which surprised Orabelle to hear the old woman had survived and encourage her to do the same. Was it because they both (not just the old woman) felt pity for the remarkable race? To be so fascinating but almost close to extinct. Orabelle had a hard time understanding such horrible things and just want to end it them by herself. Maybe baring one Akalak child wouldn't be so bad and help out a lot. The idea scared her, but maybe giving her life for another to live wouldn't be so bad.

From the bench she was sitting on Orabelle noticed a school of colorful fish. They were neon colored and almost looked like something glowing because they were so bright. She could help but get off the bench and sit by the pond. As soon as she dipped her hand into the icy water, they instantly began to swim around her hand. It made her happy and forget that she was sitting in cold grass. At the same time the fish played with her hand, the caramel skinned woman noticed her own reflection. Her ephyrian arrogance kicked in and she began to admire her reflection. Her hair was in tight curls which seem to make her hair short looking and poofy. Her eyebrows were thin and darkened. Orabelle's gorgeous blue eyes were outlined with a navy blue and her lips were a new shade of pink. A darker shade so they'd look natural."Orabelle, you..." She laughed at herself.

[Lapis Park] Let's just talk...

Favchean walked briskly through the park, his body encased in hard leathers to ward off the cold. He didn't mind the cold, in fact welcomed it, his body so bulky and large that it tended to run much warmer then smaller bodies. His flesh was a green so dark that it might have been thought to be black in low lights, his eyes so pale blue that it looked much like the ice that tended to hang from the trees this time of year. The contrast was startling to say the least, but then again not so unusual for his race.

He might not have been as tall as some Akalak's, topping out only at six foot five inches tall, he more then made up for it the bulk of muscle that he worked diligently on. Today he was taking a walk through the park, he loved the out doors and Riverfall had many lovely parks. His mind was on the Nakivaks himself, knowing that his time was fast approaching that he would be expected to have either secured a willing mate himself, or take up a contract with the city. Chealvan wanted to just skip the process that Favchean had laid out trying to hold to using the Nakivak as a last option and just take on a contract. Favchean himself was reluctant, particularly since most of the Nakivak were what he considered high risk.

His walk took him through Lapis park, and by the body of water that ran through it. There he saw a lone woman kneeling beside the water, her hand in the frigid depths. There was something about her that reminded him of Rosela, but he couldn't quite place it. "Careful that you don't get frost bite on your fingers..I would hate to have to run you down to the sanctuary." He remarked, his voice a low grumble. A deep bass naturally he kept his voice tightly controlled -just like everything else in his life- trying to not intimidate people.

The fish had been attracted to Orabelle's hand and had not left it's side yet. Her hand had become a little numb from the bitter cold, so she decided to pull it out of the water. It was strange that the icy cold pond bothered her, yet being a Svefra and being marked by Laviku had given her the strength to withstand the bitter winters while sailing across the sea.

As soon as,she pulled her hand out, she heard a low grumble. It was kind of heard to make out. The half-ephyrian stood and turned around to see a very tall green man. She stood there in silence for just a minute as she wrapped her cloak around herself."What?" She asked but began to shook her head."If you're a priest of priskil, I'm very sorry to have stick my hand in the pond."

She watched him for a minute and realized he was not the tallest Akalak she had seen. Orabelle's neck would be aching by now trying to look him in the face. He was very green, a dark shade of it but he had the lightest blue eyes. She began to laugh."Akalak man, your eyes do not match your skin color." She started to laugh harder. She intended for it to be a little joke and had hoped she didn't offend the man who could take her out with just the swing of his arm.

"I'm sorry." She paused as she reached for the bench to sit on it."You can now make fun of me." Orabelle giggled while staring at the sun Syna had provided.

"By the way, I'm Orabelle. Orabelle Deepseeker."

His brow raised, his head cocked to one side as she spoke, his thick arms crossing across his large chest. Not in a menacing or annoyed fashion, just in an easy stance as he observed the other carefully. Priest? HIm? That made him chuckle, he raised his voice just a little not wanting the growling tones to become over whelming. "No no priest. It is just the waters are very cold this time of year, dangling fingers into them is generally not the safest thing."

As she laughed, and commented on his eyes he simply watched with a little amusement. "I think I would look rather odd if my eyes didn't at least stand out? You should talk to Wysar and Akijia, and tell them that their children's eyes should be as dark as their skin." Again his words are spoken seriously but there is a hint of a smile on his lips. If she had met Chealvan then she mgiht have gotten a few jabs, Chealvan enjoyed that sort of banter. Favchean did not, he preferred compliments to banter even when the banter was joking and fun. Chealvan's would undoubtedly been less Joking and more fun on his part then hers.

The green Akalak inclined his head, his pale eyes dropping to her wrist automatically to check for a Nakivak bracelet. "Favchean and Chealvan at your service. Your accent.. you are not Rivarian are you."

Orabelle smiled and stared back at the pond."I may not have the regular appearance Akalak man but I am a Svefra. I would plunge into the deadly sea in winter just because I wanted too." She tilted her head and looked back at him as he began to speak more . She frowned a bit, being unfamiliar with the gods.

The pod had only mention a small group of gods. Laviku because he was king of the sea and the one who blessed them. Avalis was mentioned too but only because she was his beautiful lover. Syna and Leth were very, important because they indicated day and night but Wysar and Akijia? They did not influence a svefra's life and were more like minorities in their world. This was the first she had actually heard of anyone speaking of them.

"If I met your god I would ask them more than just that. I would ask why are their children men. Why are they green and, other extraordinary colors. My last questions would be... how can I serve them?" Orabelle's smile got wider but than faded. She talked way too much sometimes.

"I actually wouldn't know what to say to them." She crossed her legs and pushed back a strand of her hair. The Akalak man had not moved since he's gotten here. Orabelle couldn't tell if she was offending him or just, not phasing him. Once again she had to look at his face. He was barely smiling." So you're not stiff at all, are you Akalak man?"

Once again he spoke and Orabelle got his name. Well two different names. Which one was he?"Of course. My fratava accent gives that away. I am a mixed blood, Svefra and Ephyrian. But I am,not as graceful as the four to six armed beauties. I lean more to my savage side."

He realized when she explained about her heritage what reminded him of Rosela so much. He grinned, now brightly, Rosela was one of his favorite people because she was so easy to be around. He could flirt and squire her about the town, and she returned the favor with no expectations of more. Not that he would be opposed to a relationship with the beautiful Eypharian woman but her life span was so small, and he needed sons. He would not put someone he cared for at risk carrying his child.

He sank down, much more gracefully then one might expect such a large man, folding his legs easily in front of him, supporting his torso with hands that drop behind. "Then I suppose you are going to be participating in this year Avanthal plunge?" This was said with another smile, not quite as a challenge.

"We are men to keep balance. Just as Laviku's daughters are all female. To allow two races born of gods to procreate with each other then a race of demi-gods would expand. The gods are wise in their dealings. As it is they bless us occasionally with the Akontak." He spoke with a little more passion, then simply answering a question. "I have a name, in a city full of Akalak it might get confusing to refer to us as Akalak man, and expect one or the other to know who you are speaking of."

She simply laughed when he referred to her as a daughter of Laviku. She was indeed a faithful follower but not a child of Laviku."I wish I were a child of such a god. I'd feel like a princess if I were. But I am not." Orabelle watched him fold his leg and look as if he were the same size as herself. She stood and walked towards him."I am nowhere near being a princess sadly, for the longest time I was fine with this but my mother has opened my eyes and told me where I stand."

It was the fact that Orabelle felt insecure about the hierarchy she was,put in. Even in Riverfall where she is nothing more than a guest. A lot of women who are voluntary nakivaks just become one to have intercourse with the a race every woman dreams of being with. Others did it because they felt sympathy.

These statements somewhat applied to Orabelle. But she also wanted to be in a higher hierarchy in the Akalak community."I know... Favchean... Or Chevlean." Orabelle couldn't remember so well." A city full of Akalaks with one goal." Her gazed soften, she hoped he knew what she was talking about.

He had been referring to the Konti as being Laviku's daughters but he didn't correct her, slightly bemused at her words. He liked that she laughed so easily. In this world of troubles it was a rare thing to find someone who had a genuine laugh it seemed. "Every woman is a princess, be they children of the gods or not. The gift of life is found within them." He didn't speak with charm, he spoke with utter seriousness, a sincerity of someone who has said such many times before.

When she stood to walk over towards him, his brow crinkles lightly, as he inclined his head backwards. When she speaks he raised a brow, "It's Favchean for the moment. What goal is that pray tell?" He does not shift, nor does he move other then simply to continue inclining his head. "Akalaks have many goals, the safety of our city.. and the continuity of our race."

Now he does straighten no longer relaxed and reclined back. "What do you know of the continuation of our race? Of the people themselves. Speak boldly and plainly."

It was odd that,he wasn't trying to be charming when he said all women are princesses. She was kind of glad he didn't. Orabelle loves to talk not flirt, although her kind soft voice would be mistaken for a seductive tone. People sometimes mistaken the makeup on her face was for some guy. But it wasn't. Everything she did was for herself. Never for the opposite or even same sex.

She began to become comfortable around Favchean. She was easily forgetting what had been on her mind earlier. At first she thought her questions went right over his head. She cleared her throat before she began to speak.

"I know it's harder for your race to gain a wife." She stopped but did not laugh like she did before. She was quite serious this time."I know that fighting seems to be their number one priority but something else is too. This race's population does not match other races, like humans."

Orabelle shivered a bit more as the bitter cold wind whistled passed her ear. She wasn't really planning on staying out here until Favchean came a long.

Favchean had thought that was what she was getting at but he wanted to be sure before he just assumed and charged head long into a conversation he was unsure of. He wondered exactly though, was her motivation since she didn't have the silver Undan on her wrist. However, knowledge is important, especially when it came to Akalak culture and the city of Riverfall in Favchean's mind.

Yet his eyes did not miss the shiver, and immediately he sat forward, then pushed himself to join her in standing. "The air is chilled, a brisk walk will help to keep ..us... warm. I do not mind answering your questions, but let us do that while we move. Are you going anywhere in particular?" His arm was proffered to her, a crooked elbow, and he would wait until she indicated a direction before he moved, measuring his steps so that she did not have to strain to keep alongside of him. His body was warm, insulated well by the thick cords of muscle that he so endlessly endeavors to cultivate, which was why he had no cloak to offer her.

"Gaining a wife is no harder for Akalak then human or other such races. We meet, we fall in love, we speak our vows before Cheva." One shoulder, the one not connected to the arm that he had offered her, raised. "It is what comes next that is the difficult part. Akalak seed bears Akalak sons every time, with the exception of with a Konti female. However our seed is powerful, the babe is powerful, yet in the beginnings of pregnancy it is weak. Many miscarriages, still births, and even if the female is able to nurture the babe to full grown often times she dies in the process."

His words are soft, thoughtful, and a little wistful. That was the only thing he envied of the human men. The ability to take joy in their mate's pregnancy, rather then joy but trepidation for what will surely be a year of discomfort and torment, and in the end a higher likelihood of death. He shivered a little but it had nothing to do with the cold. "It is why we prize Nakivaks, those women who unselfishly give their bodies so that our race can continue." He purposefully left out the few that were not so willing, who were paying off debts.
