Basic Information Race: Chaktawe Birthday & Age : Winter, 491 AV (19 years) Gender: Female Home Tribe: Kanalue Physical Description Maeko stands 5'5" and weighs 150lbs. Despite her weight she looks thin and lean. Like normal Chaktawe she has copper skin, jet black hair and obsidian eyes. She wears black feathers in her hair with intricately carved black beads in her hair. She normally wears exactly the clothes seen in the picture, except for the top of the dress which has black feathers sewn on the top, eventually Maeko hopes to cover the whole dress with feathers that she collects throughout her life. Character Concept Because she does not have the talent for storytelling, she has always felt like she has to compensate for it. She gets really annoyed when people underestimate her or think she is simple. Maeko has always had a curiosity for almost anything. She enjoys learning new things and inwardly she enjoys meeting new people, however her background has taught her to be cautious. She has a strong personality. Her sheltered life within the tribe has caused her to be naive in some ways. That doesn't mean she's stupid. True to her heritage she is very clever and thinks quick on her feet. Maeko worships the goddess Makutsi and the god Eywaat. Water was always scarce so Maeko was greatful for what Makutsi provided them. While she worshiped Makutsi like her sisters, she often prayed to Eywaat when seeking guidance. The stories of Eywaat were always her favorite. He gave the people the strength they needed to not only survive, but thrive and whenever she saw a crow she was reminded that Eywaat kept watch over them.

Character History Maeko was born of a strong household. Her mother was a beautiful storyteller and her father was an accomplished hunter. She has two brothers and three sisters. Early in her childhood Maeko entered training to become an Abayla daughter but early in the training it was clear that Maeko didn't have the talent to tell the sacred stories. Her tongue ran clumsily over the words and she couldn't remember them like the others. And just as quickly as her training began, it was over. Since she wasn't able to tell the sacred stories and she couldn't become a leader of her tribe like her brothers Maeko felt she always had to make up for her shortcomings. So she focused on hunting. Her lean body and long limbs were well suited for climbing the redstone formations. Maeko became a hunter and tracker and has spent the majority of her life doing just that. At her searching Maeko didn't have too much trouble surviving on her own, but what did unsettle her was the prophecy she was given. "You will be torn from the people and become a stranger in stranger lands." Which shocked her at first, but seemed fitting to a daughter who could not become an Abayla. A few days later she encountered her guardian spirit. It was in the form of a man, his skin was a deep bronze, deeper than her own. He wore black feathers in his hair just as she did, and also wore a pelt of black feathers and a bracelet of intricately carved beads. He wore a half smile that looked like he knew something she didn't. Immediately his name came to her and she spoke it aloud. He answered with a slight nod before disappearing. Since then she has seen him only in the most dire of situations. But occasionally she heard his voice, or felt him pull her will, as if he were pointing her in the right direction. One day Maeko was out hunting alone, it wasn't a smart idea and she knew it, but she had an argument with her family and just wanted to be alone and forget the day. Just before she was going to take a shot at a wild dog she was assaulted from behind. One second she was just about ready to go for the kill the next her world was darkness. Maeko woke up in the middle of the night with a splitting headache. When she tried to put her hand on her temple she was stopped by bindings. Her wrists were tied together and there was a bag over her hands. She then realized that her feet were similarly bound and her mouth was gagged. Maeko looked around and saw one of her captors keeping watch. These men were thorough, the only thing she could do was wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow came then the next, and the next. Then the season turned. As the days passed Maeko learned a lot about her situation. She had been taken to be sold as a slave. They would get a lot of money from her. Maeko had no choice but to go with them and wait until she was sold. The noble that bought her took joy in breaking his slaves. He was experienced and didn't leave Maeko much room to escape. She gave him what he wanted. She let him believe he had broken her and when he began to let up, she took the opportunity and escaped. Now she is left a foreigner in a strange land.
