Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

38th of Winter, 513 AV--Regulus' Home

Regulus sat up quite suddenly.

"It's time!" he stated loudly, jumping out of bed and running over to his stack of clean clothing.

This sort of outward joy was a bit uncharacteristic of Regulus, but tonight was a special night for him. After roughly a year of trying to situate himself within Riverfall, he was finally in a good enough state financially to begin preparing for his crusade. Not a single day passed where he didn't fidget in his slumber, dreaming of bringing justice to Mizahar, of avenging those who he failed to save those centuries ago.

As the graceful giant pulled on his ill-fitting, but fashionable clothing, he made certain to grab his harp on the way out the door. He treasured it, for it had been his salvation upon his arrival to the city. If it weren't for his musical skills, he would surely be destitute, living on the streets, and certainly no closer to his goal.

With a gentle pluck of the strings, and a rare smile on his face, Regulus stepped out into afternoon Riverfall. The sun was still on the horizon, but Regulus had more or less made it to his pure form, and as such, appeared even larger than usual. His chest puffed out in determination, he made his way through the crowded streets.

He was used to the strange looks. There had only ever been a handful of Ethaefal in Riverfall, and Regulus was certainly the largest. He did not care. He had come to love and respect the Akalak race and it's customs, and he genuinely enjoyed living among them. They had been more than welcoming, and he was genuinely grateful for both their hospitality and their skill in combat. He was going to need real training to return to his former glory, and the war-like Akalak race could definitely provide it. But first, he needed a weapon.

Regulus' hands twitched as he approached the blacksmith's hut. His body and soul ached for combat, to finally be free of this unending guilt. He approached the smithy, a large man, but still nearly dwarfed by the gargantuan Ethaefal. His face and hands were almost completely coated in what appeared to be a mix of soot and sweat.

"Oh, it's you,' he stated blankly, an expression of mild surprise on his face.
"You're that giant who plays the harp on the street side every night. You're good! Heard you playing myself not three nights ago. What can I do for you?"

Regulus balked for a moment that he had been known for his harp-playing. After recovering from his mild shock, he inquired about purchasing a spear.

"A spear, eh? You look more like an axe man to me, but alright. Let me see what I can find for you."

The filthy Akalak made his way into the back of the store, and soon returned with several spears and lances.

"Take your pick."

As excited as Regulus was to have any form of weapon again, none of these partcularly felt right to him. They all seemed...so basic. So insignificant. These wouldn't be the tools he would use to please his god. But he needed...something.

"I suppose I'll take the longspear here," he said, taking out his coinpurse to pay.

"No, no, no," said the blacksmith.
"You and I both know that that's not the weapon for you. You want something more powerful, more deadly. Am I right? I've got just the thing for you."

Walking back to the back room, the blacksmith reveals something he had placed on the other side of the wall. What he brought out was a spear the likes of which Regulus had never seen.

"It's a snake spear. The blade may be skinny, but the curves allow it to slide right through both armor and flesh. You're a horse warrior, aren't you? You'll need a shield to go with that, I believe," he said, taking out a beautiful, freshly forged jousting shield, complete with an indentation to place a spear in for better stability when charging on horseback.
"I'll give you the pair for 50 gold mizas. You'll get no better deal from anyone else in Riverfall."

50 gold mizas. That was almost all Regulus had to his name. But this was the first step on the road to redemption. This was why he had come here.

"I'll take your deal, blacksmith."

"Fantastic! Come and see me again when you're looking for armor, young Kuvan. I expect great things from you."

Weapons in hand, Regulus made his way out of the blacksmith's, and into the night of Riverfall. Now there was the matter of aquiring a horse.

Only 50 mizas left. What kind of horse could be bought for only 50 gold mizas? Certainly no warhorse. No, for now, the spear and shield were enough. The rest would come in due time.

As Regulus was putting away his coinpurse, his ears were pierced by a scream, and he was suddenly knocked off balance.

"Murderer!! Stop him, please!!"

Instantly recovering, Regulus took in his surroundings. An Akalak man lay in a pool of blood in the middle of the road, mere feet in front of him. A young Konti woman lie on her knees by his side, wildly sobbing and screaming, pointing at the figure that had crashed into Regulus. And the figure was escaping. Breaking into a sprint, Regulus dropped his items chased the marauder through the streets, doing his best not to trample any citizens in his way. Passing a couple of guards, he shouted to them to assist him, that there was a murderer on the loose.

Before long, Regulus and five elite guardsmen had the criminal in their sights. Ducking into an alleyway, the escapee was attempting to climb the side of a building when he felt something grip his ankle. The next thing he saw was pavement as the enormous Ethaefal smashed the crook's frail body into the street, face first. The Akalak guardsmen, catching up just in time to see this feat, praised Regulus for his heroics. Without him, the killer would have escaped. Upon searching the unconscious killer, it was revealed that he had quite a bit of money on him. A senior guardsman who had been back at the scene with the Konti widow confirmed that this had been a pick pocketing gone wrong. Among the many coinpurses the bandit had on him, Regulus found his own, 50 GM and all. The bastard had snatched it as he bumped into him after the murder. After recovering his harp and armaments from the scene of the crime, and speaking more with the grateful guardsmen, Regulus said his goodbyes and went on his way.

How amazing he felt. How simply divine. Here in Riverfall, Regulus was already combating the forces of darkness. Surely Leth's eyes were upon him. Surely this is where he was meant to be. Finally, he had some way to know he was right in coming here. Regulus had forgotten that this kind of happiness could exist.

Happy as he was, there was still the issue of money. The night was still young, so there was still time to attempt to make back some of the money he had spent. Spear slung over one shoulder with one hand, shield and harp in the other, Regulus made his way to his usual spot in the most bustling area of night time Riverfall. The people of the city were not particularly generous with their money, but Regulus made due. As he set down his spear and shield behind him, and took out his harp to play, several blue faces had already perked up in expectation.

Regulus knew only a few songs, but he played them well enough. It was his emotion that caused him to stand out. Regulus played only slow, longing tunes that reminded him of his past, and the home he had lost. His notes sprung from the instrument like an army of grasshoppers, each one landing directly in the heart of anyone who happened to be passing by. Soon enough, a small crowd had formed, and so Regulus played on. He played until his fingers ached, and tears threatened to break through his eyelids. After several hours, most had gone home, and there was no money to be found. After shaking hands and speaking for a moment with his few remaining listeners, the glistening giant took up his instrument and weaponry, and began his trek home.

The night had not been wasted. He had gained much, both physically and spiritually, and even though he lacked money, the harp always served to calm his nerves.

The sun beginning to peak on the horizon, and his home in sight, Regulus prepared to spend the daytime as he always did--dreaming. But this day would not be a fitful slumber. This day, Regulus would sleep with peace for the first time in a very long time.

Notes: I enjoyed this thread and a glimpse of your PC. However, you cannot consider yourself Kuvan in RF until you have taken your Kuvan test which is a solo where you are challenged with one competent level weapon. That solo must be posted and graded. :THEN you can call yourself a Kuvan. 

As always PM me if you have issues.
