Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Favchean continued to apprise her as she ate, watching her more just to observe and try and see what she wasn't saying. Not that he thought she was hiding something, but he was not the kind to pry or ask a lot of questions, preferring to find things out as they come. "Don't be sorry, you have a beautiful laugh." His voice warm though the depth of the baritone did not rise. His pale eyes followed her hand as she brushed at her scales, one brow quirking but he doesn't comment.
"Don't be sorry. I am open about my race and culture, with our limited population it is even more important to educate." He sat forward, his forearms balancing on the edge of the table and his hands folded together. His dark skin was darker in here away from the natural light of Syna which only made his white teeth and pale eyes stand out. "Akontak are .. different. They know who they are immediately, those who are blessed with them tend to give them names but that might change when the child begins speaking. Akalak we name the light brother. The dark usually comes out a few years later, and they come up with his name. Chealvan and I went by Favchean both until very recently just out of convenience. He is the one that came up with Chealvan."
"Tell me Lyn'nice. If you give me a daughter what are you likely to do? End your volunteer Nakivak status and go straight back to Mura?"

Lyn'nice smiled, "I'm glad you think that as I'm prone to laugh quite often. Sometimes over the silliest little things." She went back to eating, listening to Favchean as he spoke with great interest," So was your birth name different than the one you use now?"
She thought for a bit with a look of suddenly realizing something, "Chealvan's name is a play off your own name. I had noticed they were similar in a way but now hearing you say that he came up with his own name... He chose to scramble your name and change a few letters. He moved the C H E A to the beginning. Switched the A and V moving them to match up with the leftover N. Finishing by trading your F for an L. It's like a little puzzle." Lyn'nice gave him a grin, "I notice little things like that. Patterns and such."
He question caught her off guard and the look on her face showed it. She stopped and thought for awhile her face serious with a twinge of melancholia to it. "No, I wouldn't leave as I'd have to pay you back, and birthing a daughter means nothing to the Oathmaster." Lyn'nice sat there quiet for a while. If that happens, what will you do?" She asked her eyes filled with a sadness. "She wouldn't give you any status. But she would have your blood in her veins. Would you love her?" Lyn'nice's voice quivered and she looked away from Favchean. He had hit a sore subject that Lyn'nice knew she had to deal with. |

Favchean grinned at her noticing his brother's seeming lack of creativity. "No I am no Akontak so I kept the name my parents gave me.Akontak are closer to the gods, they.. are wiser and have knowledge that other children do not have. That is why they sometimes let their parents know what their names are." When the serving girl came back by he asked for a glass of water, to come with the check before returning his attention to her.
"Chealvan wanted to continue to honor our parents. Akalaks tend to blend the names of the mother and father to make the name of the child. It is our way of keeping a connection with the mother who may or may not be present in the child's life. Our father's name is Farlvan and our mother's C'hea, thus Favchean, and then eventually Chealvan."
The serving girl came by with his water, and he sipped it thankfully letting the chilled liquid slide down his throat. Her return question on the possibility of a daughter was expected, though he was surprised at her distress. Mostly because ..there are many Konti girls who never knew their father. Akalak's would not keep a Konti daughter from her mother any more then a Konti would keep a son from his father. "She would always be my daughter, Lyn'nice. As long as she is here in Riverfall she will have just as much of my love and support as a son would. The only difference is if you were to head back to Mura I would not stop you from taking her."

Lyn'nice look away into the distance beyond The White Crane, "I don't... feel like I... belong in Mura. Like I'm not right for it. It's too peaceful there. Like I'm always in a daze. I'd rather not go back there. Ever. Don't get me wrong, I love my family. But I know I don't belong there. I'm not calm enough. The quiet drives me crazy."
She turned to Favchean, "You've been watching me quite carefully for a while now." She grinned, "Did you find what you were looking for? Do I have the right traits for your kids?"
"So now what? We head to the tower you read my file? All it says is I garden, swim, and enjoy squid. Then I pack my few things and move in with you? Okay, I'm good with all that, if you are."She flashed another smile. |

Favchean blinked, almost taken aback at how easily and quickly she summed up the process. As if it were every day that she was taken under contract to lay with a man and bear him children. Perhaps it was common, for some people but for Favchean he respected the process and her sacrifice far too much for such a quick run down.
He flagged the serving girl down and paid five silver Miza's each and two more for the wine for a grand total of one gold miza and two silvers, with an added silver for a tip. Once that was completed he stood, offered her his arm once more and escorted her out of the building into the light of Syna. "So you have no other children?" He asked conversationally, though if she did it would be in her file and he would find out then. He walked them at a steady pace, niether hurrying their walking nor slowing it.
"It can be as quick as that yes, if that is how quick you wish it. I do not mind waiting a few days if you prefer to get settled." Favchean offered, some Talvis treated their Nakivak as simply that, an obligation and nothing more. It was very clinical and for Favchean it seemed to demean the process. While he did not necessarily expect anything more then a friendship and a son from this contract, he didn't want to reduce it to being just purely business either.
Receipt5 sm x 2 for 2 common meals = 1 GM, 2 Sm for a pitcher of wine, and 1 sm for a tip totalling 1 gm, and 3 sm.

"This will be my first as well as your first." Lyn'nice jokingly poked Favchean in the arm, "You should be flattered or honored, one of those two. Maybe both." SHe gave a shrug and laughed arm in arm the Akalak. "Hey, at least I ensure your sons have a sense of humor!" Lyn'nice smiled, she was enjoying herself.
The sun was out and bright and Lyn'nice's Konti scales shimmered a deep violet and her swirls shined. "Can I ask you something? The scales on my forehead... Do they look like half of a flower? You know the kinds with lots of petals?" She pointed to her forehead. "My family always said they did, so when I took up gardening and got my sight dealing with gardening, my family said it was fate."
"To get settled..."She thought for a moment, "How about I move in today or tomarrow just to get settled. We don't have to get 'started' with the contract part until we get used to being in the same house for a while. You know get to know each other better? Maybe go on a few dates or something. If that's more your pace." Lyn'nice turned to see what Favchean would say. |

He grinned when she poked his arm, marveling again at how small these women were. It was a source of amusement in his parents home that both he and his father often could carry his mother like a child. She was short even for a Konti, while Lyn'nice seemed on the average height for the race. Still small enough that he felt as if he might just be able to pluck her up and set her on a shoulder to squire her around.
"At least one of them is more then likely to inherit your sense of humor indeed." His pale eyes slide from her eyes to her scales, his free hand raising to gently stroke along the iridescent ridges. "Lhex is in charge of fates and mixing them, I am a firm believer that he likes to drop clues and hints. Perhaps your scale pattern is his work."
He continued their walk, turning up the path that would lead them to the level that the oathmaster's tower was located. "I am perfectly fine giving you a few days to settle in. You can look around and let me know what you need if you still want to plant a garden though perhaps that should wait till the spring?"

"One is better than none, everyone knows that girls like a sense of humor." Lyn'nice grinned, " I'll be glad as long as they're healthy, honestly. I guess that's the one wish every mother has for their children. That and that they like to garden, of course!"
"I-I never thought of my scales that way." She ran her fingers over her forehead, "Always thought it was weird. No one else had a pattern like mine." She looked up at the man,"Hey Favchean, thanks." She held onto his arm a little tighter and smiled to herself. Lyn'nice was thankful for this man for so many reasons.
"I'd like to move in as soon as I can to get settled, learn your schedule, and things like that. Yeah, the planting can wait until after the last and final freeze. But, I can start planning the foliage right away." It was strange coming back to this building so soon but she felt proud as they made their way. |

ooc noteMagpie approved self-modding this.Favchean wished he could see into the mind of this Nakivak, to see what she was thinking or if she was thinking anything at all. Not that he thought she was vapid, but all the bubbliness in the world can hide a lot of fears, doubts, and misgivings or it could hide lack of understanding. That is something Favchean does not want, someone who is going into this contract with limited understanding. However she assured him that she did, so he took that on faith.
Escorting her inside the tower, this was the first time Favchean had been in there but he had heard stories enough, an assistant of some sort -or perhaps she was simply a future Nakivak who was being helpful Favchean was not sure- pointed to the stairs and directed them to the third floor. The first floor would have been where Lyn'nice had been given her first physical exam, the second floor was where the Cerulean was housed, and Favchean hurried Lyn'nice along the curving staircase.
The third floor held Tuvas and Jerusc's office, and that is where Favchean was heading with Lyn'nice. The Akalak was sitting behind his desk when Favchean respectfully knocked on the door, giving the Konti Nakivak a small grin before they were beckoned inside.
Tuvas looked over the desk at the Konti and the Akalak that walked with a raised brow. "Good afternoon Lyn'nice. I hope this means you have found a Talvis and not anything out of sorts?" He stands and offered his forearm to Favchean, who reached out and clasped his arm.
"Favchean and Chealvan, sir." Favchean introduced them, then escorted Lyn'nice to one of the chairs provided. "Indeed, I have come to take up Lyn'nice's contract. She assures me she understands and accepts the Nakivak responsibilities." His voice is still tinged with a humbleness in awe of her generosity.
Tuvas nods and moves to the cabinets that holds her file. "Indeed. She is quite new but she is not a rescue so does not require the season of rest before her services can be taken." He slides the file out of the cabinet and hands it to Favchean. To Lyn'nice he quirks a brow, "This might take a few chimes, then we will have to forge the gold Undanas. You understand that means that Favchean is taking responsibility for you. For your expenses, for your safety and health in Riverfall and without. The gold Undanas will keep you safe because he will be able to sense where you are." He didn't add that if she, for whatever reason, tried to run away from the contract that Favchean could find her just as easily. She was a volunteer, Tuvas highly doubted that she would be a run away and force Jerusc to come out to take care of the situation.

Upon entering Lyn'nice spotted the receptionist who had been here the day of her check-up. She smiled and waved to the woman. Her focus turned to where the exam beds were and made a face. "Darn doctors and their sterile smells," she mumbled to herself some of it barely audible then it would return to a soft whisper, "trying to intimidate me.." She was certainly venting inside her head and trying to keep it all in her mind. But, tidbits were finding their way to her mouth.
Before she could grumble to herself any longer she was whisked away by Favchean and hurried up the stairs. She noted that he picked up the pace passing the second floor. She was tempted to ask what lie beyond that door, but if the large Akalak she was with seemed leery of it. She deemed it best not to know.
Lyn'nice held onto Favchean with a tightened grip. Tuvas. It wasn't that she was afraid of him, but she distursted him after his attempts to intimidate her. Even his greetings rubbed her wrong. But, she would try and be pleasant for Favchean of course.
Lyn'nice sat and gave a smile to Favchean and sat quietly while they spoke. "Yes sir, I understand that he is to care for me in health, safety, and expense. I also understand that by having my gold Undanas that Favchean shall have all knowledge of my whereabouts. However you did forget to mention that if I make any attempts to leave during my contract my Undanas will be used as a tracking device and I shall be brought back if needed by force. Or were you going to skip that part because I volunteered?" She gave the Oathmaster a smirk as if to say I'm not afraid of you. |
