4th of Winter, 513 AV
Location: Aka's Chambers, in the cage
Winter brought with it not a single change of a discernible nature. The weather was still as it was in Fall, hot. Unbearably so, something that Evalin would find of the most disagreeable nature, were she to spend much time beyond the sanctuary of the underground caves of Zinrah. Stagnation, immobilized in the flow of the world was this place. In some horridly irritable way it was as Sahova, frozen in a pocket of time that was unchanging despite the seasons that past it. Evalin hated it so.
The nuit sat with her back against the bars of her cage, knees pulled up to her chest with her head resting upon them. Her eyes were dim and distant, contemplating and pondering the world about her with a focus that was on the border of obsession. The slave was gone, as was her master. It seemed that she rarely kept to her cage, so unlike Evalin herself. Each movement set the rattling of chains upon the ground, something that the Witch rarely heard from the other slave. Perhaps it was a sliver of envy upon the cold heart of the girl, but for whatever reason the taste of bitter annoyance coated her tongue.
"What nuisances... To be caged as I am, as we are, trapped in bars of iron so weak. More so are we trapped by some obligation to obedience than of any force of this world." She shook her head, closing her eyes, "With but a thought I might sever the bonds, but I cannot. With but a whisper these bars would be no more, but I cannot. With but a demand freedom would be mine... but I cannot. Be damned this caged isolation. Were it not for the best I would cast it off. Think you not so my dear Tsenrika?"
Silence fell over the cavern as Evalin shifted, awaiting a reply from the heart of her heart, the life that was her own and not hers at all. A chime... then two... then three. Blinking Evalin lifted her head, pressing her hand against the icy gem that hung from her neck, "Does silence rule you now my dear Tsenrika? Speak you not to your master now?"
But a moment longer passed before the sound of ice filled her mind, Something has changed...
There was something odd in how he spoke this, and Evalin could feel a chill sweeping through her heart. Something stirred within her, an odd curiosity, a probing mind. Tsenrika reached out with his own being and pressed closer than ever before, their link humming louder than ever she had know. She shivered from the inner cold that his touch brought with it and she whispered softly, "Tsenrika... What has occurred?"
From around her neck the chain and gem suddenly fell, resolving itself in smooth motions into a reflective orb no larger than Evalin's fist. The natural form of the Irylid floated away from Evalin, toward the center of the cage. Evalin's hand reached out, a note of concern in her voice, "Mind you do not reveal yourself, do not stray far..." but the words were lost on deaf ears as the Familiar bobbed slowly up and down.
Something is shifted, is altered... It is something I noticed growing for some time, yet now...
Evalin gasped and clutched at her chest as she felt that stirring once more, a shifting within her. That power, that force that called upon the elements shifted and spun without her command, acted upon a will of its own for reasons she did not understand. Blinking hard and shaking her head, Evalin looked at Tsenrika, "What is this... What is it you do?"
The familiar slowly spun in place and that tugging at Evalin's soul increased. Around the familiar the air twisted and shifted, like one were peering through heat waves. The girl's eyes widened as the disruptions increased in speed, going faster and faster until they were released outward, a gush of wind blasting past her and blowing back her hair. The effects were sudden, unexpected as she felt the weariness already beginning to creep upon her mind. It was as if she had cast the spell, had summoned forth the gust of her own volution, but that was not the case. It was summoned by the creature, that Familiar that claimed a part of her soul. He had stolen it from her...
Pressing her palm to her forehead the girl slowly stood, using the bars for support, "What be this... How is it you can call upon my own power when I wish it not? Dear Tsenrika... What has happened?"
Then she felt it, like it was something of her own heart and soul. A feeling akin to pride yet colder, harder and somehow indifferent all at once. It was not her, yet she felt it could only be her. It was the one who was her and was not, he who shared her life. She could almost see it now, a smile upon the heart of the Familiar as he spoke softly to her mind, "Our bond is strengthened, and now... What power you possess, is now mine as well."
She could not help it, that voice was so different than it had been ever before. The cold struck her now, chilling her flesh and bones, and the shiver would not be suppressed. Evalin was not so certain that it was due to the cold.
