Wellll, around spring or summer it will be two hopefully. Besides even one Chaon mark is enough to drive most people into madness in ways hypnotists can only dream of. Master Shrag has nothing on a Chaon, especially at rank 2 since they will know your deepest desires, fears, and insecurities without even asking a single question. And then they can have you singing whatever song they want by making the person experience them.
A rank one can, with enough time, like say a season or two, make perfectly sane and normal person into a paranoid wreck with no friends or loved ones and probably make them experience horrible delusions. Hypnotism is limited by comparison, as it drains a users Djed and, unless Glyphing is used, the Hypnotist usually has to be present for the effects. Meaning more likelihood of getting caught.
I just don't have Anna flex her Chaon muscles since folks like to then make it a personal quest to discover she's a servant of Rhysol after the tiniest curse. That, and it could suffer from novelty decay. So it only makes rare appearances.
Prepares for lesson on Chaon.Think about Chaon being used like this, you are sitting next to a friendly young woman on a bench. You start up a conversation with, make small talk and get to know her. She has a normal job and a normal life, pretty much unassuming in everyway. You tell her a bit about yourself, mentioning casually that your wife was supposed to be meeting you here tonight but is late. Based on that information the girl, actually a Chaon, can then plant the first tiny seed in your mind, just the smallest bit of paranoia that will manifest a couple of days after the meeting. 'Why was your wife so late that day? It wasn't like her to be late.' Something that might bother you for a week, but nothing horrible.
You two part, but the Chaon has already picked you as her next target. You might meet her again later at a bar, strike up a conversation again, or even just brush past her in a crowd. More and more the curses start to pile up, over the course of a season a you goes from trusting husband to paranoid wreak that doesn't trust your wife.
But is doesn't stop there, once that relationship is ruined she will continue to isolate you. Make you lose everything, destroy your life completely and turn you into a wretch with nothing left to live for in the span of a few seasons. Then, at the moment when everything is at its darkest she comes to you and tells you of Rhysol. The one hope to get everything back, a thin little thread in a life of crushing despair. Or arranges it so that he betrays someone who loved him.
The whole point of that little scenario is to outline exactly what a rank one, just a rank one mind you, can do with enough time and patience. Keep in mind that you can layer curses on people as well, cursing them multiple times. Anna could, for instance walk up to someone and curse them into becoming blind, deaf, and dumb for a week. She could then up keep the curse indefinitely with proper access. Of course, that kind of obvious curse might arouse suspicion, though really who would pinpoint their suffering to that conversation they had a couple of days ago to that overly dramatic chick in the Common Labs?
That's how I understand the mark at least. Sorry about the tangent... needed to get that out of my system as L1 Chaon tends to get underestimated. Not that you do, Ray, just that others do and I really need to use it more often.
