The Malt House This place was originally known as The Malt Brewery. It was not named as such because it was attached to a brewery, but rather the first owner thought that the implication of the name might attract more punters – and his theory worked. The current owner, Grayson, changed the name to The Malt House, and it continued to attract the same amount of people. Located in the Merchants’ District, all manner of Ravokians and visitors to the city frequent this tavern, its early opening hours meaning that it can attract business from merchants and customers alike as they decide to take a break and wet their whistles, get a bite to eat, and avoid the sun that often beats down on Rhysol’s protected domain. Lucky enough to be situated on one of the lake structures with better pedestrian walkways, the Malt House boasts a small, yet popular, outside seating area, consisting of a few tables and a number more benches, where paying patrons might enjoy the mild weather Ravok offers. Inside the tavern, the long bar allows for two or three people to work behind it, with one or two more in the modest kitchen, which is hidden away behind the bar. A number of casks, some full of ale, and others empty, are kept around the tavern, used for tables, and for decoration. fine wines are kept on display behind the bar, teasing and enticing guests to buy them. A number of stools are spaced around the bar proper, and more, shorter, stools, chairs and tables occupy the free space throughout the rest of the interior. Some tables double as a ‘family area’ during certain hours, as the tavern caters to children earlier on in the day. Though there are many windows, the shadow of other buildings mean that limited sunlight actually shines through. The dark room is lit mainly by artificial lighting: candles and the like. Care has gone into the decoration of the interior; the green and brown faded upholstery and walls match the dark, polished wood. The Malt House offers no rooms to stay in - the apartments above are just that: apartments for Ravokians. The only room is kept as living quarters for the owner. Prices

Grayson Falkes, 42 Bartender & Owner Bartending - 62 Intimidation - 26 Leadership - 42 Negotiation - 35 Storytelling - 34 Having inherited the tavern following his father’s death, Grayson slipped naturally into the role, having grown up around the establishment, and worked in it since he became an adult. He knows little else and is very proud of his role within the community – he can often be heard saying that, without establishments like his to allow people to let off steam, civilisation would fall! A tall man, coming in at about 5 foot 11, he is still muscular for his age and, unmarried, shamelessly flirts with anyone who takes his fancy, though it is all good natured. Dark hair, high cheekbones and chocolate brown eyes mean that most forgive him for his terrible attempts. But, if his flirting doesn’t bring people to his public house, his storytelling will: he will tell the wildest of tales as if it were his own, and has an uncanny ability to make any newcomer feel welcome. His nice facade seems to end the minute children are around, however, and he turns into a cantankerous man, always trying to find an excuse to complain to parents about their rowdy children who are runiing the atmosphere of his tavern. He continues to allow them patronage, however, as long as they have someone of age with them. Given the nature of the area, he prefers to employ men, rather than girls, though he likes to keep one or two around, knowing that their particular charm might squeeze a few more Mizas out of the drunker patrons. He knows all of the tricks of the trade and will often charge people more if he knows they are visitors to the city, knowing he might get away with it – though he will deny it if ever accused of such a thing. Given the location of the tavern, he also attempts to put the prices up during any festivals, executions, or other special occasions in the city. Vanessa
Name: Vanessa Nightingale Race: Human DOB: Fall 38, 494 AV POB: Syliras Title: None Skills: Singing: 80 Musical Instrument (Harp): 51 Writing: 30 Storytelling: 25 With wavy dark bronze hair and light hazel eyes, Vanessa is not the picture of perfect grace. In fact, many would call this woman an air head or a great danger to herself. Although she is not stupid, she may sometimes make ignorant decisions or let her emotions get the better of her. Vanessa is a very nice girl who tries to believe in the good of all; however, after years of experiencing bad situations she has come to mistrust most people, but not all. She moved to Ravok long ago to experience its culture but she refuses to become fully apart of the city and apply for citizenship. Because of this, she always tries to keep her past hidden and avoid any trouble, sadly trouble is very hard to avoid in this city for this girl. Vanessa works at The Malt House, as a singer for the establishment. It took a very long conversation with Grayson Falks, who only agreed to hire her if she could manage to attract more people with her voice. Although she has to deal with Grayson's seemingly endless need to flirt, she loves the house and her job. (Credit for Vanessa to Light Dicey!) Location credit to Verin Rush! |
