This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

But she couldn't run. She shouldn't. Verena was supposed to be here. With whatever fortitude she could muster, Verena stayed in that room, back still turned at the two men. With a deep breath, she forced herself to think. A reason why she should stay. Why she could not leave. You need to make sure the guard didn't cross the line and killed him. You're the only who can help with his injuries when this was done. The screaming and the headache -thanks to her magic - did not exactly promote clear thinking.

At some point, the Rujaro spoke,"Please ... I am .. Has.. Haskel.. I am ..Bulishan. I know... very little.." Haskel? Bulishan? It seemed like two different things, not that she understood any of it. Reno pulled back his hand from the man's head and she could not help but focus on the red blood. What did he do exactly? He was not holding anything and she doubted he could pierce one of the strongest bones in a being with his finger alone.

Verena paused. She could not help thinking that there was something wrong with his speech. Something wrong, like every word was hooked to each other. He sounded like someone drunk. She swore there was nothing wrong with the way he spoke chimes earlier. Did it had something to do with what Reno was doing? An internal bleeding pressing against his brain? Which returned to her question earlier - did he suffered a head trauma?

Goddess, there was practically nothing I could work with.

She flinched when Reno grabbed the man's broken arm. That was when she noticed one the man's legs started shaking. No, not shaking exactly. It was convulsing, like he could not control his own muscles. He didn't even seem to realize it.

"He's poisoned," Verena muttered, not to anyone in particular. How could she not she this earlier? How did she missed it?

The man was now slowly going rigid, his muscles starting to twitch even before Reno/Mamoru could even grip the arm that was broken. His eyes raise to meet the yellow-green gaze of his questioner, the whites now blood shot to the point of being almost red. A simple savagery engulfed his features, one that was primal and his teeth were bared in a snarl when the Dhani gripped his arm and pain bloomed behind his eyes.

"North..of the city for two bells.. then west for another bell.. Valuable.." He panted out the words, mostly because he knew that it would put a financial pinch of Jarrick to lose that cave, but it would not give up Jarrick himself. Before he could go further, though his body stiffened dramatically, and his snarl turned into a gurgling laugh. Pink tinged foam frothed from around his lips as he began to convulse against his restraints.

His body jerked, his eyes rolled back, the movements were so violent that blood began to ooze from the ropes restraining him as they cut into his skin. His body was on fire, the pain was terrible, but he was looking forward to the arms of Dira now. There was little that these two could do. If they were to go quest out the cave they might find riches, but Haskel was able to begin the long dying process with triumph.

Death of a Slave [Modded Thread]

Reno was ready to slug the man again if he hadn't started taking finally. Dhani were very good at torture and interrogation, but even in this the trickster had only gone about it just a bit. Mostly he wanted to try and portray how he would expect a barbarian to torture and interrogate someone. The only thing that he had done of his old tricks was the bone, finger stabbing..that was very Dhani like..or just Mamoru like.

But it seemed to have worked and the man gave up a location to a cave. North of the city for two bells then west for another bell. It was a start, and whatever they found there might be worth the time it took to get the information out of him. But then the man got worse, much worse. Reno stood back looking the man over with clinched fist. He could hear the words of the little woman inside his mind. He's poisoned..There was nothing that he could do, he wasn't a healer and the man looked too far gone anyway.

That left the question of who poisoned him? Was it the slave? Some animal? He couldn't say. The Dhani had never heard of someone poisoning themselves, it wasn't the type of thing a person did willingly, at least not in the jungle. "Damn, and I was just getting started."

The healer could only watch as the man slowly died in front of her eyes. She barely remembered the information the slave had uttered. She realized the symptoms far too late. There was nothing she could do. She was not entirely trained in the arts of poison - that was Zorane's line of work. How Verena wished her brother was here instead of her. He would've noticed the signs earlier and maybe even got the antidote in time to save the runaway slave. But then what? Put him through pain he awaited his own execution.

Verena just stood and stared, feeling numb allover. This was not the first death she had witnessed and she knew when things were out of her control. She didn't do this to him - no, not her, not even Reno. So why did she feel sick? Like she had personally escorted him to the arms of death. The man kept convulsing and the young woman stay rooted to the ground.

When she closed her eyes, Verena could see the man tied on the chair, fighting back and screaming. His eyes glaring accusingly at her. She was there. She could tell Reno to stop. But she didn't.

"Damn, and I was just getting started."

The air of death was thick in the small room. The guilt. The shame. All of them choking her, sending her head pounding. She couldn't take it. Couldn't take invisible fingers tightening around her neck, blocking her air. Her vision blurred for a moment. The minor overgiving certainly did not helping her state of shock. Without a word, Verena threw the door open, welcoming the cold, fresh air and walked out.

The man had died a painful death. White froth covered his chin and his chest, his wrists and ankles were bloody from the force of his convulsions. His heart had burst within his chest, from the force of its pounding that ripped the muscle. His eyes hemorrhaged, yet there was still that expression of triumph now frozen forever on his features.

Once the man had died everything became silent as the city slept. Two bells north and a bell to the west. That is what the Rujaro had said, now all that Reno/Mamoru and Verena had to decide was if he was telling the truth, and whether or not to go and investigate. Or to just tell the Magistrate and let him deal with the information as he sees fit.

Reno sighed heavily, he didn't like being made a fool of and he hated falling short on a job. His interrogation had gone badly and now the slave was dead and had taken his secrets with him to the grave. Reno was now stuck with the task to tell the Magistrate what happened. He hadn't been sure what the girl had been there for anyway as she had been completely useless. The location, the cave that the man spoke of, he wondered if it was even real. Or maybe even a trap.

He huffed a second time, green eyes narrowing to the body and the thought of shoving a boot into his face did cross his mind. But that would do no good, the slave was long gone and the only thing left to do was to decide if he would go and look or not. In truth, the decision had already been made, but he forced himself to think it over and to see how both sides lined up. On the one had it could be a trap, or just non sense. If it were just nonsense then it would be a waste of time, however, if it was a trap he could be in trouble, but that would also give him the chance to capture and torture another one of them for information.

Reno didn't think much on finding anything good there, no Rajuro leaders or scribbles of other active locations, no riches. None of that seemed likely, but he had decided, he would go and take a look for him.The door to the room was swung open and the large man stepped out. He also took in the cool air, but not in as much comfort as the girl had. He missed the summer, and heat of the jungle, this air was so unnatural to him that it kept him awake at all times. "Hey, you." He called to the girl. " You can take the carriage back, I'm going to look ahead and see if the slave was lying about the cave."

She nearly missed the fact that Reno had exited the torture room. Verena welcomed the oblivion for a short moment. All she could see, all she could hear was the tortured slave. A part of her knew that it was certainly not the time to panic, while the other felt sick. Her lungs demanded for the cool air as she calmed herself down.

The doctor looked down on her own hands. They were still smeared with blood, almost black under the faint moonlight. Suddenly she wished for bath, like she could wash away all the guilt with warm water. Maybe she could. Honestly, Verena longed for the comfort of solitude in her home, but that wasn't about to happen. She vaguely remembered the slave mentioning something about a cave. It might not be important, but it was the only clue they had.

"I'm coming," she said briefly, straightening her posture. Lorana would want her to keep a close eye to everything that was happening as of now. Despite the fact that the guard reminded her too much of the dead Rujaro, Verena looked at him calmly, hoping she didn't look paler than she already was.

Comments: There is an unbelievable amount of lore in this thread. Just... well done ^.^

One thing about Auristics, it's not possible to investigate several auras at the same time at the novice level, so I'm going to have to award you an overgiving consequence.

Consequence: Moderate Overgiving. Weakened Eyesight (20:30) for one year, though this can be healed by a level 2 Healer. The blurring gets worse if Auristics is used, though the magic can be used normally.

If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please send me a PM, and we'll discuss my reasoning behind why the grade given was received. Please make sure to edit any posts in the grading queue to 'graded' and update your CS as soon as possible. Enjoy! ^.^
