Vyvian hated spring..
People seemed to think it was a time of new life... new energy, a sign of new things to be done...
For him it just meant the comforting cold and shade of the winter was invaded by the invasive light and heat of summer. Fumbling with his oversized rings in his pocket, he blew some of his neat fringe out of his eye, neat only because his parents said so.
Ahead of him was a colour he had barely seen before. Grey. He squinted at it. Definitely grey.
Pursing his lips a moment's hesitation crossed him. His curiousity banished it in an instant. All of the unknown secrets... all of the safe places he could hide from people. Looking ahead of him, long shadows were cast by lights of the living city behind him. There was no light ahead of him. Perfect. If no one could see him then he was safe. He loved the darkness. Sometimes he liked to imagine images in the shadows, like one shaped like a spider, and would talk to it.
"Hey Spider!" he whispered softly to nothingness, as he took his first step forwards. He smiled shyly towards the aforementioned shadow.
"Haven't seen your friend Water Drop recently?"
Silence.
"No me neither."
Vyvian clutched his hands together, pretend he was holding hands with Spider.
He missed water drop..
He looked down at the grey dust that coated his feet as he slowly climbed further and further from the supposed safety of the living city to the real safety of the abandoned husk of a city.
He smiled to himself softly and sat down against a wall. He liked it here, he could talk to the shadows on his own in peace and quiet here. He liked quiet, it gave him time to concentrate on himself.
