84th of Summer, 513AV.

Blue eyes scanned the blue sea, and the harlot gave it a suspicious look before gently dipping his toe in. He hadn't really gone out since Edreina had taken him, this being the first time he had actually revisited the harbor. He had found a small little area off to the side that was reserved for the personal crafts, which didn't come in all that often. He had thought Edreina docked her ship somewhere around here, but didn't actually see it. He wasn't looking for another excursion out into the middle of the ocean, though. He was just testing his luck in a safe part. He nudged his toe in once or twice more, the timid whore getting a few amused glances from a couple of the busy sailors. One or two Knights would walk by and give him a suspicious stare, but after a minute or two of watching him dip his toe in and shiver fearfully, they would just shake their heads and walk off. He wasn't much of a threat. He was nicely dressed, with a loose unbuttoned shirt and rolled up pants, and even had something of a professional look about him. Apparently he was just terrified of water and trying his very best to get over it. He wasn't really getting anywhere, though. He would spend about an hour poking at the water before frowning, knowing that he was going to have to do something about it.

Fear is emotion, remember? Logically, what could hurt you? Squid. Squid could hurt me. Edreina didn't tell me about the squid. Maybe Razkar was just trying to scare me, though? No, he knows all he has to do is bare his teeth and chuckle. There are probably squid.

He chewed his lower lip harder, realizing that his internal struggle certainly wasn't going to help. He would just need to leave it up to pure stupidity. With a deep breath, the harlot just flung himself in. Reminding himself at the last minute that he was supposed to be practicing some acrobatics, he tried his very best to turn his movement into a flip. The athletic man managed to get some good height on his lip, but the windmilling of his arms and legs did little to actually turn his body all the way around in a flip. He worked his muscles as best as he could, but only managed something of a half-twist-flip before he faceplanted in the water. Thankfully it was deep enough to cushion his fall without him touching the bottom. Flailing around a little bit, he quickly threw himself into a doggy paddle back towards the dock. Clinging onto it, he shook his head, black hair flinging water everywhere. Tilting his head, a bit dripped out of his ear. He was pretty sure he had swallowed some as well. This was a great start to his swimming practice.

When Matthew managed to paddle back to the dock, there would be a freckled hand awaiting him. Edreina's hair hung lank with sweat, and her skin was coated with a generous coating of dirt. Something... dark... haunted her eyes, but at the sight of seeing Matthew in the Suvan, puss-... doggy-paddling about was enough to put a grin on her face. The insides of her thighs were darkened by dried sweat that crinkled when she walked and itched of horse hair. And the smell... oh do not even get her started. Edreina had quickly decided that she hated the smell of horses and the sweat that came with riding one.

But, it was all for a purpose.

Just as her meeting with Matthew was. "You're early," she said with a shake of her head. "And I had to move the 'grotto to make room for a merchant's ship. It's just down here a ways." Without further explanation of why she had asked the harlot to meet her here, Edreina started off towards her ship, mission set in mind. Now, she could only hope that the harlots were biting upon this fine afternoon.

And that the Suvan would wash out this smell... Ugh!

Suspicious eyes glared up at Edreina before the rather sullen-looking harlot took her hand, fingers wrapping firmly around hers and using her weight to help haul himself up. He plopped gracefully up onto the edge of the dock, and then instantly wrinkled his nose as her smell hit him. "You smell horrible. Do you need another bath?" He was ever so careful with his words, as always. He was actually a bit puzzled by her smell. She should be in good enough condition to bathe herself by now, or at least let Razkar help her out a little. He shrugged his broad shoulders, dismissing the curiosity, but instantly thinking of another question. As she motioned him to follow her, he fell into line about a step behind her. He paused for a moment, then voiced his question softly. "So, any progress with the whole love thing?" He perched an eyebrow at her back, wondering if that had anything to do with the smell. Hopefully that wasn't the scent of petching. It was a horrible scent, and he wouldn't be able to help himself from making some comment about certain things they could do to avoid the lovemaking musk.

Mentioning Razkar brought a whole slew of memories back, and the harlot's brow instantly furrowed and his curious stare turned suspicious all over again. "He told me about squid, by the way. You did not mention those. Do you often lure people in with cute baby dolphins and then sacrifice them to the squid?" Like always, it was hard to tell if he was serious or joking. He had actually tried his best to make it sound like a joke, but it was laced with quite a bit of actual belief that she would indeed do all of that. He didn't trust the playful fire-head when it came to the Suvan. He didn't trust her as far as he could swim, and that certainly wasn't very far at all. He glanced around, checking out the different ships and sailors, keeping his eyes out for the Grotto. Was that a name, or a type of ship? He had never asked. He had always thought that all the different types of ships were just... well, ships.

The question lingering in the air was why they were here, but he figured that one was obvious enough. He left it out for now. As he scanned the crowd, he thought he spotted a familiar head of hair... but when he craned his neck to look, it had vanished into the crowd. Odd.

Only once she was upon her ship did Edreina decide to address any of the harlot's questions. "I smell horrible because I was on a horse all day. It tends to do that to a girl." She smiled brightly as she began to peel her breeches from her legs, sighing in exasperation as it crinkles and crackles sickly. "But yes, I am aware of the fact I need a bath." For an instant, the redhead was below deck before she reappeared, holding a large bar of soap on a rope.

"And yes, there has been quite a bit of progress in the whole love thing..." A quiet sigh escaped her lips as she fought the urge to curl up with her head between her hands. Was there even a love thing? She... cared for him deeply. She wanted to be at his side as long as he would allow it. Petch! She was going to- "It is exactly the reason that I have invited you here. But, since you were early... Excuse me for a moment." Without another word, she leapt into the Suvan with the soap in one hand in her pants in the other.

~

Several long chimes later, Edreina hauled herself back into the boat for a bit of sun drying. Laying prone, on her back, red hair in a puddle around her, Edreina started to voice her proposition. "I will be traveling to Zeltiva at the end of the season. Don't ask about the details, because even I'm not entirely sure on them. But, I will be leaving, nonetheless, for at least the Fall season. Now," She rolled onto her side and then pulled her legs beneath her, fixing the harlot in her dancing azure gaze. "I am sure that you are wondering how this includes you? Ah. Well as an... escort..." It took her an instant to remember the title by which he referred to his occupation. "I figure that you are always looking to expand your clientele and I do not doubt that there are many women lusting after a night with a pirate, merchant prince, what have you. I think I may be able to help you with that in a way that also keeps me from having to leave my ship, the Goldengrotto," her arms were wide as she motioned to the ship itself, "unattended. The only question is whether or not you are interested..."

Good thing the Svefra was good at holding her breath, for she felt that Matthew's answer would not be quick in coming.

The harlot stood with crossed arms, peering critically over the edge of the boat, wrinkling his nose a bit at the lingering smell of horse and woman. He had serviced one or two that smelled like her, and he had spent hours scrubbing it out of his skin. Making a small face, he glanced over at her discarded clothes. He stared at them for a moment, feeling something in his mind twitch repeatedly. Glancing back down to wherever she had vanished to and then back to the clothes, he paused, and then gracefully hurried over to them. He would spend the next several chimes washing them on the other side of the boat, dripping them into the water and rubbing them clean. He didn't have any soap, but he would make do with what he could.

~

She plopped back up with a splash, and she would find Matthew dutifully throwing her once-dirty clothes over one of the many ropes that was strung around the place. He took his sweet time making sure that they were perfectly straight where they hung, and then turned to regard her as she started to speak. His brow furrowed as he tried to keep up with her hurried words, arms crossing again and tall body standing straight. An eyebrow was raised as she stumbled over his job title, but he didn't say anything. When she finally got to the main point and offered him her ship, both eyebrows raised, and his eyes danced to match hers. "You are offering me a place to bunk women?" He tilted his head, the smallest of smiles playing at the corners of his lips. "You don't mind me staining the walls, floors, sleeping quarters, and every other semi-solid surface with the pleasured bodily fluids of me and multiple women?"

Still blunt as ever. That one was a bit perverse though. If he was picking up on it, then he had really stepped out of line. He'd need to work on his filter a bit more.

A lot more.

Oddly enough, he enjoyed the idea of working on a boat. He didn't like his cramped quarters in the castle, and having a boat to sleep in would mean that he also had fresh air. He was slightly scared of the boat and the water of course, but he could probably deal with it. He could just keep it tied up to the dock. The harlot slowly sat down, folding his legs neatly under him. He glanced over her body for a moment, sniffing to check for the previous odor. It seemed to be gone. He gave a satisfied little nod and returned his attention to her, his voice soft. "I am interested. What are the terms and conditions of such an agreement? How long are you going away? And what are the details?" He completely ignored her command to not ask the details. There had to be some sort of detail. He doubted she was just going to go wandering off to Zeltiva to read.

Ah, Zeltiva. Edreina was a friend, wasn't she? He should offer some advice, or maybe offer his name to help her out in her quest. Did it still carry some weight? Who knew. He was entertaining the thought of something he would never actually do. She would be fine, especially if she had the sullen savage with her.

"Matthew, if you think that anything you leave behind will be worse than that left by Razkar and myself, I'm afraid you're sorely mistaken," the redhead shot back with an ornery grin. Most people, mainly those few at the Arms who knew if her conquest, shuddered at the though of bedding a male so fierce. They surely fear he will bring them harm in bed, she considered, blind to the fact that her lover's visage may be the cause of their discomfort.

When he, predictably, asked for the details of her travels, Edreina felt her cheeks flush with mild discomfort. The trip was ill-fated from the get-go, but how could she tell him that without seeming a fool? "There are matters in Zeltiva to which Razkar must... attend." The urge to vomit at thoughts of how exactly he may have planned upon attending to them was quietly repressed. "I'm going to accompany him. Should not take more than a season. As for the terms..." The Svefra hesitated, forcing herself to acclimate to the thought of asking for money in return for something she had no need of. It went against her basic upbringing, but it was the way of the landwalkers. In truth, going to a new city across the continent terrified her, and along with it did the concept of being unable to purchase what she needed or wanted through bartering or simple labor exchange. The money in her coin-purse held no true value to her, and thus she was unsure of how much she would need.

"You will pay me a season's rent before I leave. If my journey takes any longer than I anticipate, you can continue to live on the ship for free. If you need to go anywhere along this coast or that which lay across the Suvan's breast, you may use my ship to reach it. Simply send me word; the sailors at these ports know and use the Avikki of my people. If you choose to travel by land, leave my ship in the hands of a Svefra who needs it... I'm sure one will find you when the time is right; we always do." A small, homesick smile played at her lips at the mention of her people. Did Razkar even know what it meant for her to abandon her journey home for one so terrifyingly foreign? The smile fell and so did the light from her eyes. "Does this sound agreeable to you?"

Matthew blinked at her ornery comeback, and then Edreina would probably see the sudden glint in his eyes. He was about to ask something uncomfortable.

"Was his penis any different?"

There it was. "Myrians look almost completely the same as your basic Sylirian, though a darker skin shade and a certain sort of air about them. There are of course all the differences in culture, but as for physical appearances, everything almost looks completely the same. I bedded a Myrian woman once, and besides being quite rough, she seemed to look like any other woman. I have always been curious about the males. I would ask, but Raz-kar has that troubling condition where he chokes on his drink or food, so I try my best not to surprise him too much." He peered at her closely, more and more questions popping up in his head. He wanted to ask for a play-by of their activities, or ask if he could watch next time and take notes, but he was almost positive that neither question would be heard exactly the way he intended it. He chewed his lower lip, looking very much like he wanted to say something, but barely managed to swallow the curiosity and politely move along to the next topic. He just nodded at her explaination of where she was going and why she was going there, and softly spoke. "That is agreeable. Provided I move on, I'll be sure and let the Svefra know."

He momentarilly thought up another round of questions, from what a Avikki was to how exactly it would lead the Svefra to this boat. Instead, he swallowed those as well, and just sat there and stared at Edreina. Now that the business had been concluded, he was slightly at a loss for words. He had never been good at casual conversation. And she was to be leaving, right? They were friends, at least he thought they were, so shouldn't he do something? Hug her? Kiss her? No, probably not kiss. Wait, no, he could kiss her on the cheek. Or was there supposed to be a parting gift? An awkward air grew around the harlot as he just stared silently at Edreina, obviously mulling something over.

"...I... uh. Would you like a parting gift?" He reached into his wet pocket, digging around for a moment, and then suddenly pulled out a small silver-colored necklace. It was a very simple thing, with a little symbol of Yahal displayed. A symbol of purity and faithfulness, odd as that was coming from the harlot. "For you and Razkar. To keep your relationship..." He paused, eyes searching hers, the harlot obviously struggling for the words. "...pure. And faithful." He finished lamely, extending the glittering heirloom to the Svefra woman.

Words could be thicker than water, it seemed. As the harlot's hand slid forward, proffering a trinket of nameless value, Edreina felt so many words catch in her throat and freeze there, mulling and mingling as she sought the best ones to use. It was odd for her to realize just how close she had come to be with a man whose profession was the pleasure of others. It was even more strange that she valued someone who had never known the beauty of the sea as she had. Then again, there was Razkar. Hm. In a season she had found herself forming true friendships with more on land than ever she had at sea, siblings notwithstanding.

So, with all the pomp and grandeur befitting a parting, Edreina whispered, with a smile as delicate as the gift being stowed upon her, "Thank you." But, what could she give him in return?

For a whole handful of ticks, Edreina sat with the pendant between her fingers, looking about thoughtfully. Nothing she owned would be of any use to him, surely. But, he always seemed to have questions. Endless questions, much like herself. Maybe that was what she admired about him. They both were able to ask any question without shame and know that the other would provide an honest answer to the best of their ability. "In return, you may ask me any of the questions I see bouncing about in your brain. Any until your thirst for knowledge and curiosity of the affairs of a darkened room are sated or the night draws in around us."

He heard the slight noise in her throat as the words caught, and his eyes immediately took their familar narrowed expression, thoughts obviously churning in his head once more. Had he done something wrong? Was there some sort of Svefra tradition that he had managed to trample all over? He searched her face for a few moments until she finally whispered her appreciation, and hesitant relief crashed over him. So his show of care had been a correct one. But now she was staring at the necklace with a thoughtful expression on her face. He opened his mouth hesitantly, not so sure he actually wanted anything back. He wasn't that fond of shows of affection, mostly because he tried to save them for when they were actually being paid for, or when he was using them as a form of payment. She suddenly blurted out her words before he did though, and his mouth paused halfway open, the thoughtful look coming across his face again.

An interesting offer. Apparently she knew him better than he thought she did. How unique.

But which questions to ask? He stewed on it for a moment, and then waved his hand in the air. There were too many to discuss right now. They still had to finish up their business with the ship. Surprisingly, Matthew decided to show some self-restraint in his curiosity. For now. "I'll save them for next time I see you, provided you and Razkar don't end up dead. Or I don't end up dumped in a street after someone has had their way with me." Perhaps a joke, perhaps not. As always, his deadpan voice and unblinking stare made it hard to figure out. "I'll go fetch you your funds, and that'll be that. I can draft up some kind of document for us to sign as well, and you can hold onto that if you wish. Or perhaps I can, so I can prove the ship was rented to me in good graces. It'll take me quite awhile to write it, as I am horrible at writing. I can return here late in the afternoon, if you think you are going to be lounging around for a bit? Perhaps when the sun touches the horizon. I am starting to get the hang of when that is, though being inside of a castle for most of the day and night does throw off my sense of time."

The harlot gathered himself up, unfolding his limbs gracefully from the bottom of the boat, once more moving in his slightly sultry way out of habit. He extended a hand to help the Svefra up, and then would go about his day with a short nod and a polite smile if she allowed. Part of his day would include more swimming practice, though he would find a place that wasn't where Edreina could see. He had a feeling she would make a show of it if he did it within range of her. Perhaps find snacks to much on while she watched and laughed.

---

Eventually the time came to go and fetch the money, and he did without hesitation. 45 gold Mizas were handed over to the Svefra, and he was pretty sure he saw something of a gleam in her eye when she took the money. Hopefully he hadn't just gotten completely swindled.
