Ereck Darkshade Appearance Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 26 Birthday: 12th of Spring, 487 Birthplace: Sunberth Appearance: A young man with shoulder length black hair and young features. His eyes have a distinct grey that you don't see very often and that seem to look right into your soul if you decide to stare into them. His face is mostly untouched by the violence that is Sunberth except for a light scar on his cheek and one on his left temple, crossing it diagonally. Underneath his clothes, mostly on his chest and back, he carries more prominent scars from his life. The biggest one being a burn scar on his back from the great fire that destroyed the Orphanage that belonged to Calyn, the owner of the sunset quarters. What skin is visible under his clothes shows a tan from the many hours working outside providing for his own survival and that of his possible family. At first glance he looks somewhat feminine with a thin build and a generally delicate look about him. With experience or study it becomes more clear that he is not at all feminine or delicate but carries himself more like a cat or a panther, with feline grace and purpose. He moves light on his feet and stalks amongst other people, blending in easily with the rest of the dirty crowd of Sunberth. He is definitely not a feminine, frail man. Underneath his clothes he keeps away from prying eyes his trained muscles on his arms, chest and legs. He often surprises people when he performs practical tasks that require heavy lifting or when he helps out with loading or unloading goods and crates. Character Concept He's a young man who spends most of his days asleep and works night shifts to support himself. His moral compass doesn't point exactly north although it isn't quite far off either. Like the city he was born in and grew up in, he doesn't care much for others and is quite certain there are people who would rather see him dead in a ditch somewhere rather than pay him for his services. He's lived almost his whole life in the live-or-die concept of the city that it has become his sole purpose. He strives to work himself out of the gutter and into some form of personal riches. While he knows the gangs of Sunberth aren't always good for the city, he also knows that he isn't going to do anything about it. And while he isn't, he might as well join one of them. He has been honing his skills needed to be of service to any of the gangs but the shadowy aspect, mysterious nature and secrecy that surrounds the Night Eyes has always had that extra bit of attraction to it for him. While he is in no way more nocturnal than other humans, he prefers the darkness around him and has thus, taken up night work, which others seem to be more eager to pay for. Sometimes its protecting goods or escorting someone other times its killing people. It doesn't matter to him, as long as he think he can do it and it pays the rent and the food. Character History Born to two loving parents, Greg and Jane Darkshade, he was a loved son with a fairly protected youth for the first few years. But as soon as he could, his father set him to practicing for himself. Most of it involved fighting or protecting himself. At first it was with his own hands but later on it started to be with the weapon his father claims to have designed, the chain-sickle. Quite often his father dropped curious hints about his own past that seemed like there was some big secret hidden within it. He mostly thought it was some elaborate fantasy of his father's that helped him through the hardships of life. Even his own last name didn't sound right and something his would have made up, but that wasn't possible, right? His father only lasted until his 13th year, after which he succumbed to a sickness that robbed his mind of all memories. His mother, stricken with grief and unable to pay someone to help him worked hard for her child until, at the age of 14 she died when her workplace, a meager building housing a tailor shop, burned to the ground, leaving the young boy alone with a father who neither remembered him nor his own name. Not wanting to leave his father behind, the young boy prevailed on the good graces of Calyn, the owner of the Sunset Quarter. She provided him with a place to stay for him and his father and helped him to find jobs to pay off his debts to her. He continued to practice with the weapon his father had given him, although without an instructor he was left mostly to his own designs and imaginations. At the age of 16, he started talking up real jobs, no longer running errands for others, but putting his own skills to the test. His first blood came only a season later. It was winter and cold and people were desperate. While on a guard job for a local merchant, he caught a man trying to steal from the house they were guarding. While the fight was short and rather one sided, the end result was of a high impact to him. The kill had been easy, the thief not being used to the weapon he was facing quickly sank to the ground with a broken skull. In the morning he got paid a nearly empty pouch of copper as a bonus for a 'good day's work'. At this point, moralities started changing and his lifestyle became one of the night. He took on more temporary night guard or escort duties and spend his days sleeping and taking care of his father. While his fortune didn't rise in any way, he was able to provide for himself and his father a decent enough lifestyle. There were two meals per day for him and his father and they both had clothes with less than three tears in them each. At the age of 24, the great fire at the Sunset Quarters orphanage changed his life completely. While he had dozed off during the day, his father had suddenly, after 10 years, decided to get up and walk out to the orphanage. Up to this day, he has no idea why his father did that. The great fire came and in an attempt to save his father he ran into the building to try and get him out. The smoke knocked him out and part of a burning beam collapsed on his back. Afterwards he didn't remember much, except that his back hurt and the treatment he underwent did not help much with the pain. Even now, heat and large fires makes the large scar on his back itch. Now, two years later, he has settled back in properly, healed from the burn wounds and back on his regular schedule of night work and day sleeping and training. The two meals a day that went to his father are now being spent on paying of his debt towards Jillene Ironside, the new owner of the Sunset Quarters and the person who paid his medical bill after the great fire. That and the rumors about her being in an alliance with Night Eyes are two reasons for him to stay just where he is. Language Fluent Language: Common Basic Language: None Poor Language: None |
