Orion surprised even himself with how quickly he accepted her offer to sit. He’d been out of the city for about a dozen days, but it had felt an eternity longer. Being on a horse was quite different than being on a warm and comfortable bed; his body wasn’t going to let him argue or worry about any deeper meaning behind her offer. There wasn’t one. He was a tired man, and his droopy eyes did nothing to hide that fact.
He managed to crack a smile at her assessment of his appearance. She had the right of it. ”While you’re the godly visage of beauty, Hadyn,” he retorted, playfully nudging her with his shoulder as he settled in beside her. ”I haven’t even had time to get cleaned up. I’ve been out on the road for the last several days.” With a shrug and a sideways glance, Orion continued. ”Pardon the smell,” he said with a grin.
Syliras wasn’t exactly the greatest smelling of cities as it were; it was something he was usually numb to. Time spent outside the city always reminded him of just how true that was. A handful of days away from the musk would allow his senses time to remember what the world was supposed to smell like, even if he’d hardly had time to worry on his own hygiene.
”I couldn’t. I’m here for the child. Would seem a shame to come here and steal your bed instead,” he said, glancing over his shoulder to the crib. ”Liam Michaels Skellig. Poor kid’s got a bit of us both in that name. Hopefully he can take that first name and do something with it.” He turned his attention back to Hadyn, an uncertain gaze falling on her face. He’d heard that newborn mothers had a certain glow about them. Maybe he’d missed it, or maybe it was his presence that sapped it away. The hesitation was obvious in her actions. ”It’s early morning, first of the new season,” he replied, leaning down to place the mug at his feet. He hadn’t even remembered pouring his own.
”Is he..is he healthy? Any problems? No angry former lovers of mine tried to kill you or something, right?” Another grin as he tried to lighten the mood between them. Everything had been doom and gloom, arguing and yelling, and worst of all, crying. Emotions had been volatile, and at times it was difficult to tell who between them was the hormonal mess. His voice dropped low as he added an additional question.
”….What are we supposed to do now?”
They’d asked the question before. They’d screamed it, wailed it, bellowed it, but something was so very different when there was a little babe sitting in the room. They couldn’t just ignore the reality.
Right?

Right?
