Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

26th Day of Winter, 513 AV

Lucas entered the simple-looking building with some trepidation. He wasn't entirely sure what to expect as he approached the reception desk and the seated form of the green-skinned Akalak behind it. Even after a week in the city, he still wasn't entirely used to the warrior race.

"Excuse me, I was told to ask here about a job?" he said, a question in his voice.

"You were told correctly." Said the man behind the desk, looking up from his papers. He faltered for the briefest moment before continuing. "Are you also seeking to apply for citizenship?"

"No, not at this time."

"Very well then, if you would please fill out this form..." he said, selecting the appropriate one and pushing it towards Lucas. "...and return it to me when you're done, that would be great."

Lucas stood there for a while contemplating what to write down. He considered what it was he was seeking to find in Riverfall and how he could easiest achieve that goal. He wanted to meet a lot of people to try and find someone appropriate. Then how about... He filled out the form and handed it in.

-Regardless of sex or orientation, he will have a certain allure for people.
-People will tend to trust him more and consider him a good listener
-If he is touched skin to skin, he becomes aware of the other person's current needs and, if unattached, feels compelled to fulfill them. If attached, he feels inclined to fulfill them, but it is easier to resist.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Prakash on February 24th, 2014, 5:47 pm

Drath waited patiently and stoically for his turn as he shuffled forward from time to time, in line, as youngsters scurried from the desk to the exit with a look on their face as if they just battled a pack of Glassbeaks. Contorting his face as if his nose just got attacked by a rotten whiff his way, he sneered at the young'uns to Prakash. Prakash, being the more lighthearted and kinder one of the Akalak's souls, kept Drath in check and advised him to leave the grasshoppers alone as it was hardly worth losing their spot in line for. Crossing his arms and exhaling hard, doing his best not to show his wearyness of waiting, continued his internal struggle until it was finally his turn.

The Akalak seated at the other end of the large and neatly organized desk, greeted Drath hearthily and invited him to take a seat before asking the, probably repeated beyond count, question if he was here in regards to getting employed or gaining citizenship to Riverfall. Drath couldn't help but admire this Akalak's work ethics as he genuinely looked as if this was his first day on the job and finding great pleasure in assisting the needy. Both Drath and Prakash noticed instantly that this was a veteran at his job though, as he kept the atmosphere light and comfortable, his hands were reaching for documents that he already knew he would need, before Drath even answered his question. Amused and impressed, Drath smiled as he answered:

"Is it that obvious I'm looking for a job hm?"
He said with a grin as he nodded towards the already stamped document in the Akalak's hand.

"Automatism, nasty habit really."
The Akalak sheepishly answered with a boy'ish smile before requesting to fill out the document. After Drath did so, he returned the document and bid his farewell, walking past the line waiting their turn, with a look on his face as if he just had a rendez-vous with a good friend.

Name: Prakash/Drath
Race: Akalak
Age: 26
Relevant Skills:
Investigation - 20
Interrogation - 10
Preferred Employment:

I would absolutely *love* having an employment involving abovementioned skills, and even more so an employment involving unravelling mysteries and secrets.

I think my most preferred employment would involve law enforcement of Riverfall and crime investigation! That would be amazing to play with!

Expected Stay In Riverfall: At least until the end of Spring, most likely even longer.

The Labour Office. This was Bryce's final stop of the day and in a strange way, the one he was most looking forward to. He could already feel his muscles begin to strain and his bones ache at the thought of some hard, honest work and he loved it, to him there was nothing more pure and rewarding that simple labour, something far more valuable than the Mizas it paid though actually some more gold would be handy in finding a more permanent place in Riverfall that meant he could actually feel a sense of home.

The simple stone building was surprisingly cool as he stepped inside it eagerly, pushing the heavy door to one side as his dirty boots trod muddy footprints into the sparkling clean building and approached the desk, laughing silently to himself at the sight of the brawny... secretary. How peculiar these locals are Bryce thought as he cleared his throat to grab the attention of the administrator. "Good morning, I'm looking for a job." He stated as the man silently slide across a form, not even bothering to look up from his thick wad of paperwork.

Standing to one side to allow the group of local young Akalaks to approach the man, Bryce fill out the form he had been handed.

Name: Bryce Thomson
Race:Human
Age:36
Relevant Skills: Herbalism - Competent, Gardening - Component
Preferred Employment: Unsure, involving plants of some sort.
Expected Stay In Riverfall:At least one season, possibly permanently.

"Here you go" Bryce replied politely as he slid the now filled out form across the heavy oak desk before folding his arms and beginning to wait patiently for the man's response.

7th of Spring 514AV

Grace finally found her way to the Employment office, she had taken her cloak off and had it tucked under her arm. Jeno was more lively now, trotting beside her, his tongue lulling from his mouth. Despite the climb through the almost vertical streets, Grace was feeling better too. All the sick feelings form the boat had disappeared with a good long walk. Grace looked around the building, admiring the architecture for a moment. It was remarkably well crafted, this city took care for every detail to be part of the greater picture, resulting in a breathtaking view. She smiled, walking up to the desk that was clearly built for the massive men that inhabited this city, as the ledge came up to her belly button. She could hear Jeno's nails click against the stone, and he plopped down beside her, his panting resonating around the room.

"It is truly a breathtaking city here," Grace smiled at the man, just under eye level with her. "I'm new here, obviously," She let out a breathy laugh. "I'm kind of looking for a job and a house, and possibly a citizenship, what is it called . . . Kuvan? Kuvan-ship?" Grace immediately felt bad knowing she most likely messed the name up. "So basically everything you can give me to start a life here." Conversation came easy to her now that her initial nervousness about the city and its inhabitants had ceased. He smiled, just about everyone here was more polite to her than she was used to, and handed her three forms and a quill.

She thanked him and sat down at the chair directly in front of his desk. She realized as soon as her bum touched the cushioned seat that she probably should have picked a chair farther away, to be polite. Grace mentally shrugged the thought away. The uncomfortable proximity barely bothered her as she read the forms. Her right hand flew to Jeno's head to rub his ears while she answered the questions. When it came to the questions about age, Grace simply lied, her birthday was in nine days and she figured it wouldn't hurt anyone to round up. After carefully writing the two and the zero, Grace's head flew up. She made eye contact with the Akalak who was trying to focus on his own work beside her. Grace grinned at him, somewhat awkwardly. Her little lie sending a tingling though her guilty fingers, and Grace looked down to concentrate on her forms. She rarely lied, and though she didn't have the highest morals, it was useless to do so, and on those rare occasions it was necessary, it was weird that it was necessary. When she got to the third and final form, she realized she couldn't fill it out. She didn't know how to use a weapon or fight with her bare hands, and she didn't think her dagger would count. Even if it did, she couldn't do that much with it. Grace's head swung up to look at the Akalak, with his eyes on his own work, and back down again. What if she couldn't get a job or a house if she couldn't get a citizenship? Maybe they would go easy on her, she didn't know the requirements before now. She peered up at the Akalak through her eyelashes, making eye contact again as well. And again, she gave his a maladroit grin, and glued her eyes back on her paper. She leisurely rubbed Jeno's head and just stared at the form for another few seconds, deciding to just tell him she couldn't fill this form out. There was nothing she could do about it, and it was unnecessary stress. Sighing she placed the forms on his desk.

"So, I filled out the Housing Form and the Employment Form . . . Buut, I can't fill out the . . . what did it say," She picked up the last form reading the top aloud. The words sounded foreign on her lips and she hoped she pronounced it correctly. "Kuvan form. So yeah. I didn't know I had to be able to use a weapon before I got here, and I don't know if a dagger counts. I'm sorry if I can't fill it out, but I kind of need to be here, I can't afford to turn around." Grace gave a small smile and pleaded with her eyes, thinking she would get some sort of punishment for trying to illegally live in this city.

The door to the Citizenship, Housing and Labor Aid office swung open and a small cloaked figure slipped through inside. A hand pulled the figure's hood away from their face, revealing a young female Vantha. Her eyes were open wide and flicked across the office rapidly, shifting colors from violet to green before finally settling on a bright yellowish orange. She hurried towards the desk and gave the Akalak sitting there a curt nod. "Are you here for a job...or housing...or both?" he asked in a quiet voice. The Vantha drummed her fingers on the desk-"Both, please. Can I get a citizenship form, too?"-and gratefully accepted the forms he slid towards her. "Please fill out the following..."

She proceeded towards the row of seats, taking the one farthest away from the male secretary. The forms were spread out in front of her. She began filling them out, first going for the job form.

The scent of Baby Cheeks and Bluevein Pond Lilys covered Belle's hands and arms. Clumsily Belle looked down at her clean white shirt and brushed it off, while walking. Shamefully she bumped into the door, Her nose caught a weird smell of metallic but there was no blood. Her papers fell one by one onto the ground as she got on her knees and began to pick them up. So far Summer had given her great things but this wasn't one of them. Rubbing her nose she finally got them back in order and then opened the door, the correct way. Upon entering she lightly set the Employment papers on the wooden desk and said, So softly it could have been considered a whisper, " Hello there sir. " She would have included a name but she could not decide if it was Malin or Malix so she just refereed to him as sir. Belle's skin had a light tan from being out in the sun, Tending to her flowers.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Xira Hezmek on March 7th, 2014, 9:20 pm

The inside of the Labor Aid Office was a refreshingly simple area. It had a second floor, a bulletin board and a reception desk with a green skinned man. For the purpose it served, that is all it needed. When Xira went to the office it was already busy with industrious individuals attempting to seek employment. After a brief wait in line he came up to the green receptionist with a smile and handed him his paperwork.

"Good morning. I am seeking employment as a courier."

The man nodded, "Will you seeking Kuvan status?" The courier shook his head and replied with a no. "Alright then your request has been filed and you may now seek work in Riverfall. Unfortunately we have no centralized courier system in place so you will have to find your own work."

This was to be expected, the same was true for his home city. In any case, he was getting better at finding work. He smiled and bid the man farewell. This was the start of a new chapter in his life.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Shijara on March 10th, 2014, 2:55 pm

Image
10th of Spring, 514 AV

The labor aid office looked relatively empty from the outside, but Shijara saw a few Akalak children enter, no doubt ready to start contributing to their city. Shijara walked behind them, her tiny footsteps pattering softly in comparison to the youths, and she poked her head in through the door frame, looking around. She followed the dark skinned children almost shyly, smiling and nodding when they saw her. A sense of uneasiness crept into her, a nervousness about what they would think. Shijara had not met a single Chaktawe since arriving, and while surely there must have been some, she imagined herself to be somewhat of an oddity. It would have been no surprise to her if they were unsettled by her eyes. But surprisingly, they weren't.

She smiled back politely and then turned to finish their forms. As she stood there, she felt quite... small. Being a petite female only seemed more obvious next to those who would grow larger than life. When it was her turn to take a step forward, she found herself unconsciously standing on her tiptoes, moving up to the desk. Her eyes had locked in on the potential forms on the desk. She looked up, long lashes exposing black eyes, "Hi," she cleared her throat, "Can I have work form please?"

She smiled to lessen her nerves. After all, what ever she was assigned would be a way for her to make a living for at least the next few weeks. One of the males spoke up after Shijara waited patiently. Her ears perked in response, "Please fill out the following..."

"Thank you," Shijara looked down at the form. It was short enough. Simple. She could do this. She felt a looming presence behind her, and noticed that an Akalak was waiting behind her. "Oh, sorry." she sidestepped and looked back at the twins, "I, uh, can I...?" Shijara paused, looking around and spotting a pen and ink not far away, "I'm just...,'" Shijara snatched up the items, momentarily unsure if she was allowed to take it, but then decided it must be for the public use, "I will stop talking now." She quickly walked over to where some of the seats were and sat down to begin filling out the form.

Name: Shijara
Race: Chaktawe
Age: 22
Relevant Skills: Drawing, Dancing, Agreeable Personality... Wilderness Survival?
Preferred Employment: Anything art related. Something with dance or music would also be nice. Service jobs are okay too, I will try to learn.
Expected Stay In Riverfall:Perhaps till the end of the season. Undecided, but it could be longer.

Shijara looked unsure in her answers. As she filled out the paper, she realized that perhaps she wasn't as skilled as she thought. Wilderness Survival? They weren't in the wild. But perhaps Sonnet would enjoy poking fun of her if she was able to dance. And art was okay. She took a deep breath and went to turn in her paperwork. Hopefully, they found something she could do.

She watched the Akalak man from earlier leave, and moved back to the desk, handing over the slip, "I guess this is it." She smiled and waited.
