Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[The Sanctuary] We've Come For Our Own

The mounted party of men had spent the last couple of days in Riverfall asking discrete questions and getting a whole host of interesting answers. No one was bent on talking much until the coin started flowing. Once the coin started flowing, people of all sorts seemed to have answers to what the men had asked. There was a man and a dog, it seemed, and while the man was next to useless, the dog was highly prized breeding stock and had been stolen from its owner by a slave. Their orders were to retrieve the dog and the slave, though killing the slave was fine if they decided he was more bother than he was worth. Once they had the mutt firmly in hand, they were going to return south with it for a very nice reward.

Of course they told no one this. Instead, the cover story was that the man and his dog were being sought after by a prized Kiperon breeder and that a fee would be offered to the man for the dogs services to the breeder. At that point, a few smiles, a few purchased drinks gifted to thirsty lips revealed that if he was likely to find either the man or the dog or both at The Sanctuary or the folks there would know where to find such a lovely animal.

So once that was known and directions to the facility were acquired, the men rode out to find the place and case it.. to see how difficult or hard it as re-acquire the runaway slave. So the riders left the city, headed north, and took a small branch road off the Kabrin until they turned a corner, and started seeing the facilities main wall. Once there, they scattered into the trees to scout, sending men in either direction to circle the walled facility.

In the distance, a circling eagle called out twice and banked to the north.

Larik circled, watching the men on foot scouting, and then dove for the beach where Kavala was out spending time with Tasival flying a kite. Larik changed on his descent, landing barefooted and nude in the sand before Kavala and Tasi... his eyes worried.

"Aunt... there are ten horseman in the woods outside the gates. Two have left thier horses and are circling around the facility, proabably looking for vulnerabilities. They are heavily armed and look southern.. like from the desert." He said, worried.

Kavala cursed, grabbed Tasi and let him either keep ahold of the kite or not. She shouted instructions to Larik on the run, headed back for the Sea Gates intending to get up and above - securing everyting - before it was too late.

"Find Vanator, Kassem, and the rest of the staff. MAke sure they know there's trouble. Secure the gates and get all the horses out into the pastures inside that are in barns. I want no one inside in case they are magic users with fire or stone reimancy." Kavala said, suddenly worried as she grabbed her toddler and high tailed it to the gates.

Larik, equally urgent, took off again.

He flew to look for Vanator and the rest of the folks.

Meanwhile the horseman outside simply watched, waiting for their scouts to return with real intel.

[The Sanctuary] We've Come For Our Own

Vanator wrestled with the large barn door. It belonged on the doorway from the boarding barn to the east pasture tucked against the front corner of Sanctuary's walls. Earlier, a rather ill-tempered Zavian belonging to a gold merchant had bolted from the barn and burst through the barely opened doors, knocking one of the large sliding portals off its runner. Van was determined to fix it himself, no one else around handy to help.

He had managed to get the far end back on track, and now gripped the other. Crouching, he lifted with a grunt, muscles bunching beneath his shirt as he tried to finagle the door back into place. He had cast aside his cloak, the exertion of his task warming him to the point that the outer garment was uncomfortable to wear. With a rattle and a bump, the door slipped back into place, and Van pushed it back and forth a few times to ensure it was properly seated.

Suddenly, Larik appeared, shifting immediately, already out of breath. Van looked at his nude Kelvic son quizzically. Before he could ask, the young man blurted out. "Horsemen outside the walls, look southern. Kavala said to find you and Kassem, and to let the horses out into the pastures. I have already locked the gates. Aunt and Tasi came in by the Sea Gates."

Van scowled. "I will let these out, go across to the broodmare barn and tell Aweston to turn out the horses there. then find Kassem. Hurry!" Van had the same hunch Kavala seemed to have.

Pushing the repaired door wide open, Van rushed into the barn, throwing open stall doors. He coaxed the handful of boarded horses out into the hallway and out into the pasture, sliding the doors shut behind them. Then he rushed out into the courtyard. Crouching, Van paused, closed his eyes and focused on the Web woven around the Sanctuary and its perimeter. He ran the strands that encircled the walls, noting the unfamiliar signatures spread out around the facility. Ten horses. two men on foot.

Launching to his feet, Van charged down the tunnel to the Within, rushing to his suite. He tore off his shirt, foregoing a lighter one and instead just pulling on his padded vest and donning his sleeveless chainmal shirt. He pulled the two Isurian hand axes from the rack and thrust them through his belt, strapped on his battle harness and slipped the Isurian battle axe into it across his back. Grabbing his quiver and short bow, Van turned and ran back out.

His mind raced, where was everyone? He thought Sybel and Caelum went into town. Cadra was last seen watching Ralac and Ia'del in the Common Room. He didn't know where Chalce or Kassem were. He thought Cadra and Lyn'nice were with Kav's kids in the common area. If Kav was heading up from the Sea Cave, she would certainly stop and check on them. Van raced to the Armory and slung another quiver over his shoulder and took up a spear in each hand before heading topside.

[The Sanctuary] We've Come For Our Own

"Hey! Hey! We've found treasure! Laviku led the way and blessed us!

The sea showed mercy and let us through! Hey! Hey we found treasure!

The opening tune to a catchy svefran tune had made the walk for Orabelle's walk shorter. She hiked up her dress and did a little jig around Chy'lah who just hummed a long. It was only Chela and Orabelle hoping up and down, swinging left and right. They giggled and laughed, cheered and clapped. The Sanctuary had to be only a few chimes ahead of them by now. Orabelle intended to ask Kavala if Chela could volunteer since she has a liking to animals. Chela was more excited the closer they got, and her radiant smile showed her emotions. The young girl had asked her aunt to pin her long, sandy blonde hair up so she could look more presentable. She had wore a white elegant dress.

"Hey look horses!" Chela stopped her fancy tapping and pointed to the large group of men on horses approaching the sanctuary too. Both men and horses looked rather exotic and unusual. As Orabelle and Chy'lah watched them approached the gates of the sanctuary fast. They were suspicious but pushed that aside as Chela called out the breed of the horses. She awed and began running along side the men on their horse.

"Chela Marie, that's dangerous!" Orabelle, too began to run. She yelled and screamed for Chela to stop, she began leaping to stop her. Chela had gotten closer to the horses' long powerful legs."Chela!" Orabelle began to panick. For a eight year old, Chela was rather small looking a year younger then she really was. It only took one kick and the young girl could of easily died.

Orabelle was beginning to slow down but Chy'lah had sped up, swiftly coming up behind Chela and scooping her up with one hand and pulled her back. Both Chy'lah and Chela went tumbling back. Short of breath, Orabelle lifted them both up. No one was badly injured, just a few dirt stains on their clothes."Chy'lah, thanks." Orabelle paused to catch her breath, she was nodding at the teenage konti."Chela, never do that again." Her voice was soft and strict. Orabelle hugged her and started to pat her back.

"Hey Ora..." Chy'lah tapped Orabelle on the shoulder and pointed towards the group of men. Seems like both groups had the same destination. They were at the gates now and Orabelle's suspicion came back."What's going on?" Chy'lah asked, her fist were beginning to ball up which isn't a good thing.

[The Sanctuary] We've Come For Our Own

Postby Lyn'nice on February 10th, 2014, 11:55 pm

Lyn'nice was watching Kavala's young twins. In fact, she had volunteered to watch the two. Ralac and Inadan cooed and babbled from Lyn'nice's bed. She was learning to tell the boys apart by subtle changes, mainly in their eyes. "You doing alright up there Ralac?" Lyn'nice asked looking up from her seat on the floor beside the bed in her arms she held Ia'del gently in her arms. Ia'del had been born so weak and fragile, a little living miracle wrapped in her arms. Ia'del cooed and Lyn'nice smiled, "Little Konti in the sea; floating oh-so happily; sweet dreams, sweet dreams; welling up from the sea; as you sleep so peacefully; please listen to me; I'll keep you safe and sound-" Her lullaby was interrupted by a large amount of noise. Placing Ia'del carefully on her bed next to her brother, "Hang tight for a tick guys. Something doesn't see right."

She carefully opened her door just ajar and peeked out. There was a feeling of panic in the air. She could feel it. Turning to look at her two small guests. She quickly and quietly closing her door. Kavala knew where she was and that the twins were with her. She also knew Lyn'nice would protect them with her life.

Walking back over to her bed she noticed that Ia'del had fallen asleep.Lyn'nice smiled and proped up the small Konti with pillows to ensure she didn't roll off the bed. She turned to the sleeping girl's brother,"Somehow I don't think you're going to take a nap, are you?" Looking around her eyes fell onto a folded paper ball. She picked it up and blew in the opening, inflating the paper ball. Lyn'nice rolled the paper ball to Ralac who reached out to touch the colored paper of the ball. Eventually he managed to hit it out of his reach he than made an unhappy grunt. With a small laugh Lyn'nice flicked the little paper ball back within Ralac's reach.

[The Sanctuary] We've Come For Our Own

Postby Saga on February 23rd, 2014, 7:45 am

OOCI know I suck really bad. But I'm back. Sorry for the wait.

Saga had been attempting to clear his mind. He found it natural to access his magic but he ever so often he can hear Vurik sending nefarious threats within his mind. And it can at times be too encumbering for him. That was in part the same reason why he made himself welcome at the Sanctuary.

His Lakan for better or worse had not been put to use. So he would eventually need someone to instruct him better on its uses. He felt that this place would at least pose some possible avenues for him to look at. However something in the background was distracting him.

From his position he was close to the Sanctuary gates. There were raised voices and scuttling as a man was rushing by carrying out someones bidding in a frantic rush. Saga sporting his Night Leather gear was hard to miss but he wanted to get his attention.

"Excuse me my good sir. Why the rush?" he said in Common.

Larik looked at him and stopped in mid-stride. He eyed him up and down and mentally noticed that he was an Akontak. Rushing forward he said to him quickly, "If you can use Fire or Earth Reimancy we have need of your help. There is a group of armed individuals that are circling the Sanctuary. I need to secure the gates. You can stay and protect this place if you choose Akontak."

Then he rushed off to lock down the gates. It seems his powers were needed to today.
