Timestamp: 519th Day of Winter

Lysa's foot crunched against the snow as entered the forest with her small spear clutched in her hands. Arms by her side, she knelt down, eyes scanning the white covered floor. There aren't any tracks here she thought mentally before grunting slightly as she stood up again. Moving up her eyes to the bushes ahead, a grim smile spread across her lips as she noticed a few tracks disappearing into the bush probably into the next clearing ahead. Better yet, they appeared to be fresh. Adopting the hunter's crouch, she began to move slowly towards the bush, and edged as quietly as she could around the outside of the bush before letting her smile spread further up ahead. Game

Pulling her arm backwards in preparation to throw the spear, she leaned herself backwards before throwing forwards with considerable force. A satisfying thump nestled into the game as it tried to get away last minute, it's eyes bright with fear. Moving smoothly across the clearing she knelt on the ground and examined the game. It wasn't the cleanest shot ever but it was pretty good considering the fact that some of the other game she had caught previously hadn't turned out that well.

Slinging her bag from over her shoulder to the ground. She brought her hands up to pull up the bag's folds and turned around to pick up the game. Placing it securely inside, she re-slung the bag over her shoulder and put her palms on the cool snow before pushing herself up so that she was standing. Turning around, she spied a tuft of feathers lying on the ground in the near proximity. It was looking like a good day of hunting for her.

Following the tuft of fur, she was glad that she managed to accurately judge that it was actually game and not some big creature that could have pounced on her. Following the same routine as she usually did for hunting, she managed to injure the game before having to finish it up close. That'll have to do she thought to herself as she internally sighed, cleaning up the blood from her razor.

Again placing the game in her bag with the other piece, she started to walk to the near clearing and met a few branches that whipped in her face. Slightly annoyed by this prospect, she raised her eyes to bat the branches away before making it inside. Looking backwards to check if she left anything she suddenly stiffened as she heard an noise behind her. Turning around slowly, her hands reached for her spear.

[color=#FFBFFF]"Grrrr,"
a gutteral sound said to her. Lysa could hear her heart thumping. It was a creature. She didn't know what it was saying to her but she could definitely tell it's intent to eat her.

Lysa tried to decipher her chances against the creature. She had never fought before in her life. Her only chances was to pretend that the creature was prey, although it most certainly wasn't, and hunt accordingly or use her res. At the current moment, res was sounding pretty good although her chances were still slim. Creating a pool of her res in one hand, she concentrated on getting enough wind to push the creature off its perch.

"Grrrrrrr" the creature responded although she definitely still didn't know what is was or what is was saying. She could only guess. Lysa growled back up at the creature and pushed her palm forward, letting her res surge but cautious that she didn't go overboard. A blast of wind managed to erupt from her palm and staggeringly hit the beast who managed to escape the full wrath of the blow. Turning to run while it was occupied, she pushed her way through the branches opposite from the beast and ran as quickly as possible.

Hearing the branches shake wildly nearby, Lysa didn't hesitate to throw her spear at the creature. Feeling grim satisfaction as it pierced one of the creature's legs, she quickly went over against her better judgement and pulled it out, using her res to weakly blow air into the creature's eyes. Once she managed to get it out, she tried to dart away to the far end but failed as the creature trashed about in its blindness, managing to catch Lysa's leg and send her tripping.

Grunting as she hit the floor, she desperately tried to lose its grip and wildly attempted to do a commando crawl away. She knew the outcome of this match wasn't going to be pretty if she didn't run away she still had yet to escape. Grimacing, she pulled her leg further and managed to move away. However it appeared to be too late, as she came closer to escape, a shadow loomed over her. Freezing all over, she turned around to see the bloodied and angry creature had pounced through the air. Pulling her spear up directly in front of the half air-bourne thing, she raised it hoping she wouldn't be killed.

OOCsorry about the relatively short post, I'm still learning how to do long ones.
It was another day.Another petching cold day.Kari let out a sigh, not believing how cold it was, though at the same time, she was rather happy. She had bought a cloak, made of Llama's wool...which helped her a lot on surviving this cold,at least on her human form. She barely felt any cold now, except on her feet and face, but even then it was a lot less than she got used to...but she now needed to focus on her task. She wanted to find some food, and maybe a few herbs to make a homemade tea, or something that could earn her a few golden mizas. She did not have her job yet, and so, she knew she might get kicked out of the city if she wasn't able to meet the standards of the Alakaks. She needed money, and food to last for a few days would come in handy, after all, she needed every miza she could get her hands on.

But her train of thought was interrupted, as she heard a growling noise in a distance. She knew what it was almost instantly.A wolf.A wild wolf...I wonder if it'll taste good with fur and all... She thought to herself. She rarely liked the taste of fur, but beggars can't be choosers, can they? She began to shift into her Dhani form, with a small grin. She wore no pants, and no footwear, so she had no worry about tearing her clothes, since all of it also fit her Dhani form. She now slithered towards where she heard the sound of the wild wolf, and saw a human.Slightly different from usual, but she was still a human.
"I bet I can get ssssome money if I sssave her..."
The Dhani whispered to herself, as she drew her blowgun. The first step was to get the creature's attention, and then the one who striked first would win.She got ready to shoot with her blowgun, even though she rarely practiced with moving targets, but it was worth a shot.

She shot the wolf once when it pounced. She then shot it again. And again.Even though it only made small injuries on the wolf, it was enough for the wolf turn its head towards Kari, ignoring Lysa for a few seconds.Whether the wolf ran after her to attack, or the Vantha killed the wolf while it was distracted, it didn't matter. It was going to be her next meal, she was sure of it.

The wolf began to charge towards Kari, angry at her because she just interrupted his meal, completely lowering his guard to Lysa's next attack.Meanwhile, Kari coiled her tail under her clothes, in preparation to strike. She was fast, but without focus, she would not be able to strike the wolf before it harmed her, or worse: destroyed her cloak, exposing her to the cold.

[Job Thread] Stalking One Another (Kari)

Postby Lysaea Frostfawn on February 16th, 2014, 12:44 pm

Waiting for the impact that never came, Lysa dared to open her eyes. What happened? she asked herself mentally, confused as to why there was no massive wolf on top of her. She couldn't have possibly stabbed it with her spear; she was looking right up at it and the sharp edge wasn't any redder than it was before it went into the wolf. Putting her palms on the cool snow beside her, she pushed herself up only to be pushed head-first from behind. Feeling the texture of snow in her face, she grunted as a weight pushed against on her before being released.

Pulling her face out of the snow, she looked around to finally be able to see what was happening. The wolf's pelt appeared to be littered with small wounds. Not enough to be fatal to the wolf but they would have definitely slowed it down. How hindering they would have been, she did not know. Next, the Vantha shifted her gaze to the person that may or may not have been her savior depending if the wolf had killed itself on her spear or not.

Her first reaction was definitely clear on her face. The person who had saved her was a Dhani. There was no mistaking it. The chocolate brown scales, tail and snake-like appearance all showed that the girl was a Dhani. She had heard to be wary of them and although this one had most likely saved her, she wasn't sure whether she trusted the female to not attack her after the wolf. At best she was sure there was some ulterior motive for her act. Frozen in shock for a few seconds, she noticed the angry wolf begin charging the girl and immediately acted on instinct. Scrambling to her feet, she moved the spear in her fingers so it was in a throwing position and drew her arm back.

To add in extra momentum, she leaned backwards on her right foot before surging her body forwards and letting go of the spear. Breathing slightly hard from the effort she put in the blow, she watched the spear whistle in the wind before slamming directly into wolf with some force. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath to relax herself, she settled back on equal balance on both feet before opening her currently bright green eyes again. As her eyes began to fade to a more mundane darker green, they flickered around the clearing to see what had happened in the end.

The wolf was dead on the floor, it's blood seeping out from it's wounds staining the snow around it red. Looking for the Dhani, she wasn't quite sure if she was in the same position as before but shrugged off any concern she was feeling for herself. Cautiously moving towards the other girl, the young Vantha opened her mouth to speak. "Are you...alright?" she asked somewhat hesitantly although still managing to sound cold as she usually did. While she spoke, she examined the Dhani's every movements attempting to decipher whether she was actually safe or not. She wanted to be ready to run from the sight if she wasn't safe where she was right now.

She was ready to strike at the wolf, expecting the woman to not kill it.After all, she knew only a handful of humans who could fight against wild animals, and the woman did not seem skilled at fighting. She was staring at the wolf, licking her lips, expecting a good meal, and a handful of golden mizas from saving the girl from such a beast.

But to her surprise, Lysa did react in time, throwing the spear at the wolf.
"interesssting..." she said, muttering to herself as she stared at the girl's ability with the spear. For her, throwing a weapon at the enemy would only bring disadvantage in a fight, but yet,the woman was able to kill the wolf. This human proved to be...different from the others she met so far.

Not because of her skill with the spear, not because of her reaction, and not because of her eyes...but because of something else. She had no fear of Kari.No fear,no anger, nothing.It...was weird to say the least.I don't think this human knows that I can be more dangerous than the wolf...but I won't waste my energy on her..

"Human, I am indeed alright. And before you make asssumptions, I did not harm the wolf to ssssave you, I simply did it because I am in need of a meal, but if you feel grateful, you could repay me in money."
she said, almost as cold as the Vantha was, as she slithered towards the wolf. She then wrapped her tail around the beast, not even caring if Lysa was against such thing. She saved the woman's life, and this was her payment for it.

"Now as for my reward for sssaving you, I will take the ssspoils."
the woman said, as she unhinged her jaw, slowly pushing the wolf into her body.It was an uncomfortable sight to say the least, and even if the Vantha could get the wolf back, there was no doubt that no one would be interested in a dead wolf covered in a Dhani's saliva.Again, just like before, she coiled her tail under the cloak, in an attempt to protect herself from the cold. But because of the fact she was about to receive a great meal, she did not worry so much about it.

[Job Thread] Stalking One Another (Kari)

Postby Lysaea Frostfawn on February 17th, 2014, 2:02 pm

Lysa narrowed her gaze at the Dhani. She hated it when people spoke as if they were higher than someone else. It annoyed more than anything in the world. She remembered when she had come of age and was about to receive her gnosis from their Queen Morwen. Morwen had been welcoming and kind but most importantly, she remembered she hadn't spoken to anyone like she was better than them even though she was the Goddess of Winter. "I was not making assumptions, I've heard of the Dhani from rumours. If what I hear is correct then I certainly would never assume that one would do something without a behind motive," she responded even more coldly as she started to walk towards the wolf, her feet crunching in the cold snow.

Bending over, she gripped her spear in two hands and gritted her teeth in an attempt to pull it out.
"And for your information," she continued, heaving a bit "I will not give you any gold," she said before giving it one last push and pulling the spear out, stepping backwards from the momentary force. Sitting down, she felt her stomach churn from the girl just eating the wolf like she wasn't there. At least she did give her a slight warning. Giving no warnings meant the other person was generally unprepared. For big things, she learned to like warnings. As far as Lysa was concerned, eating wolves in front of her face although slightly disturbing wasn't that big but the thought still passed her mind.

Face contorting into concern for the way the Dhani was eating the wolf, she was sure she might even feel sorry for the thing even though it nearly killed her. Deciding she should probably check whether her possessions were in tact, she turned still sitting on the floor and scanned for the sight of her bag. Catching her eye on the simple thing, she stood up off the ground and brushed herself off.

Heading to where it was ungraciously tossed again a bush, she opened the flap with steady fingers and took out some game. She could always hunt some more and by the looks of it from glancing behind, she was betting the Dhani generally didn't have a lot to eat. The wolf was huge sure but whether it was appetizing was another question. Normally, she wouldn't give away fresh meat she just caught recently but a feeling that was nagging at her practically told her that she should repay the Dhani in someway either than just eyeing the way she ate strangely.

Fingering the piece of meat, she made her decision and walked up to the eating Dhani.
"Here, As I said, I'm not giving you miza but if you need something else to eat, you can eat this." she said staring directly in the Dhani's eyes making sure she kept any inhibitions she might have harbored for her unseen.

She was...surprisingly fast, when it came to eating the wolf. She barely cared about her meals' taste most of times, often only paying attention to it to see if it is poisonous or not...but the taste of this wolf was horrible. There was few things worse tasting than the wet fur of a wolf, but for her luck, the small injuries the wolf suffered was enough for it to bleed, and give her a nice taste of blood.

Kari closed her eyes in bliss for a few seconds, before realizing the woman was still there. She might even end up killed for stealing the woman's hunt, without sharing it...but at the same time, she was sure Lisa was in no condition for fighting, not after such harsh battle...but her bliss was interrupted by something, when she just realized she did not remove the needles from the wolf's fur.She coughed a bit, regurgitating her meal.It was gross to say the least, and it did hurt her a little bit from the action.

"Sssorry about that..."She said, shameful about the fact she just regurgitated a meal, as she removed the needles...and put them inside the pockets of her clothes. After that, she attempted to eat it again, gross as ever, but she didn't stop. She was able to get it completely inside her after a chime or two, and then she clumsily stood up, looking at the human who was offering a piece of meat. She was not someone who would beg a human but...getting some meat would always be nice.

"Thanksssss" The Dhani said, as she gladly took it out of the human's hand, and ate it, taking her time to appreciate the flavor, closing her eyes in bliss, after all, this piece of meat had no fur at all.She looked...quite cheerful actually. It almost made her look somewhat cute, considering how happy she was just from getting a good meal.Normally she would not show such cheerfulness to others, especially non-Dhani,unless she had a goal in mind...but this time, Nyssa decided to make an exception, after all it was because of her she was able to get such a good meal, more than enough to last for a few days.

"I sssupossse you're much better than many humansss out there." The Dhani said, trying to keep up her prideful way of thinking, but it was more than obvious that she took a liking to Lyssa. She still looked a bit wary, not taking her eyes off the spear for now, but at the same time, she thought that it was quite unlikely for the woman to strike her. she just wanted to make me fat, to get more Dhani meat?...nah, that won't happen A passing thought appeared on her head, and yet she did not lower her guard.

Lysa saw the Dhani regurgitate some of the wolf in an unpleasantly manner to her and struggled to avoid making a face. She was definitely sure wolf wasn't the Dhani's favourite thing to eat. There were certain foods that she didn't like either. There were even some that made her involuntarily vomit it out because of how much she disliked it.

Somewhat surprised when the other girl took the piece of meat, she shrugged it off quickly.
"It's no problem," she responded, her tone of voice less colder than it was before. She didn't really expect to be surprised but she guessed some part of her was wondering whether the Dhani would have taken the game that was given to her by some Vantha due to the fact she found the girl slightly snobbish in a way. Truth to be told, she wasn't actually find her to be so at the moment. It was visible to her that the girl had been starving before and was grateful for the meat she gave her if her smile on her face was any hint to how she was feeling.

Jerked out of her thoughts by the Dhani suddenly saying how she was supposed she was better than the other humans, she was confused for a second before becoming taking an en-route for pedantic. "I am a Vantha! Not a human!" she said fully non-cold, in other words, exactly how she would have said it before her late husband died; Warm, indignant, not rudely. Three vital things she had dropped completely from her personality. Blushing slightly from her sentence, she shut her mouth and looked in the other direction. "Ahem, a-and you're better than most Dhani I'd assume although I haven't met many or even one before," she continued feeling the need to return the compliment all the while trying to regain her coldness which albeit, failed miserable. She was definitely still not looking at her. "I'm Lysaea by the way, you can call me Lys or Saea or Lyssie or in fact, why don't you just call me Lysa?" she continued sounding almost friendly, the words falling out of her mouth unintentionally coming out nicely instead of forced as how they usually did.

The woman was quite surprised at the woman's words. Most of Dhani wouldn't be so happy in front of a human, but there was always exceptions. She just let out a sigh, as she heard Lysa's words about her being better than most of Dhani. That wasn't true at all, and it was enough to make her smile fade.

"No, lisssten to me, Lissa.I'm a failure asss a Dhani, for letting a hu- Vantha sssee me in ssuch pitful state, and then being so happy just from getting a wolf as a meal." The snake woman said, with no hesitation, correcting Lysa's words. What the shyke am I doing? Why I'm opening so much towards a mere fleshbag? She said, as she simply shook her head a bit at her thoughts...maybe, just maybe, it would benefit her to have the human as an ally, instead of an enemy...

Would the Dhani look down upon her for wanting to have an ally?Or maybe not, after all, it is nice to have more allies than enemies...although, this friendship wouldn't last long, since Kari planned to return to where her family lived later on her life, as a master philterer.

"Forget what I just said..." Kari said, as she turned away. She was slightly embarrassed by her actions, but that didn't matter. In times of need, anyone's help is welcome.Of course, the help from a Dhani is a lot more preferable than the help of any other race...maybe, just maybe, Siku would not mind her befriending a meatbag.

"Asss for my name, it is Karitianyssa." Nyssa said, smilling as she decided to add something else.Something that would surely earn her the slap of the Vantha."But I prefer to be called 'mistress'.". She said playfully, then raised her guard once more, with a small smile on her face.By some reason, teasing humans, Vanthas, and other races like that was so much fun.Yes, it made her lose respect of the fellow Dhani, but at the same time, it is so fun to see how many different reactions people get just from the same sentence.

Lysa felt the slight twitch of a genuine happy smile flicker over a face when she saw the Dhani's immediate reaction before it dissipated along with the other girl's smile as it too faded off her face. Listening to her words made her feel surprisingly sad as well as make her have a compulsion to comfort her; a rare change from her standard attempts at an indifferent approach to emotions in the past months.

"No, that's not right, I have no clue as to how the Dhani way of life is but I do think it is idiotic to refrain from showing emotions in front of other people. The only thing it does is make someone bottle their feelings all up which is not good. Also, it is as equally stupid to hide gratitude. At least that's what I think," she said almost passionately yet still managing to sound slightly cold as she acted on her urge before looking down at the crisp snow unsure of how the Dhani would respond.

Only when she actually thought about what she had said did she feel slightly amused; they struck her as slightly hypocritical since the thing she was doing most of the time was blocking off her expressing of emotions. But then again, she supposed she had a reason - she didn't want anyone else to be close to her. Not after what had happened to her.

She knew what she had said about emotions was true but what happened had happened because of her own stupidity and the person most close to her had died making her want to wallow in her guilt and punish herself for it. She had forced herself to be more careful and smart. Both of which she managed to achieve.

In fact, the most of the reason for her not socialising with the other Vantha in Avanthul was that those who tried to talk to her remembered her all too well as someone who blamed themselves for a something they didn't do. That would have suited her just fine of course except for the fact that she was at fault and she didn't want to talk to people trying to tell her that it wasn't the case.

She guessed her unwillingness to socialise with others had eventually melded itself into her list of habits which then continued even throughout her time in Riverfall although she knew that it was also only half the reason. She wasn't even sure whether she wanted to break it or not. With her disrupted res, it would be even more dangerous for her to be close to other people or even to socialise with them. Yet even then, she still remembered her reason for moving to Riverfall - to get over her past - which she definitely wanted to accomplish.

Awakened from her thoughts by the Dhani's voice telling her her name, she smiled a small smile back before hearing the next bit of Karitianyssa's sentence which made her widen her eyes and force herself to stifle her growing laughter. It certainly did not earn her a slap but what Kari did get was a glare cold enough to deep freeze the whole of Riverfall for eternity.
"I will certainly not call you that...Kati..ritnas..ya?" she said stumbling over the other girl's name dulling her piercing blue eyes into a deeper sapphire shade of blue as she let out her laugh. "Sorry, I can't pronounce your name!" she said, her distress obviously clear in her eyes.

OOCsorry about the short post, I'm still getting a feel for my character.
Kari let out a sigh, as she heard the woman's words. She knew the woman was right, but she would never admit to her, deciding to not bother with a reply. But she let out a small, shy smile as she received the glare.It...was a bit scary, considering how she had a spear on her hand, she could try killing her at any moment...but as soon as she began to laugh, she laughed as well, glad that she could change the subject...but at the same time, it gave the opportunity for her to forget the woman's previous words.

But back in her mind, she was still thinking about it, Lysa's words echoing. But she ignored it, deciding it wasn't worth the trouble to think about it, and it was a perfect time to tease someone.Maybe she'll get offended?Or maybe she'll laugh harder?

"Just call me missstresss inssstead!" The Dhani said, happy about letting loose.Maybe, just maybe, she could make this time an exception. After all, no Dhani, or human was around to see her feelings, and the woman sounded too nice to betray her, or get angry if Kari ended up doing something dumb.
"Thisss other name isss really nice, and easssy to pronounce. It isss m-i-ssss-t-r-e-sss...I think" Kari said, suddenly realizing how little she knew about common grammar, bringing a sudden embarassment about her. What if this...vantha...laughes about me not being able to spell this right? She thought to herself, as she covered her face, hoping she didn't mess up in this attempt.

"Jussst call me kari..." she said after a few ticks, deciding to hope she'll change the subject, instead of teasing her for spelling something wrong.
