16th of Winter, 513 AV
It was quiet in the Marrow. Nothing moved, nothing stirred, and nothing disturbed the nuit as she sat down at the table meant solely for her new craft. It had been only a few days sense she was given the chance, no the honor to learn the ageless art known as Legacy. It was an art that Evalin had for the longest tie known of, but she had never taken the time to put it to practice. Now she sat before several bones, and all she could see were the possibilities. Tsenrika floated over her right shoulder, quietly observing for now. Before her sat a small scull of a rat, what looked like a severed finger with some flesh still clinging to it, and a set of teeth from some large cat. Scanning the items before her Evalin chose to grace her fingers over the rodent skull first, opting to take the more obvious and simple on before the rest.
"Quiet and unnoticed, deceptive and cunning." Evalin said slowly, turning the scull over in her fingers, "Such are a few of this creatures traits."
"Dirty and reclusive, hoarders of junk, simple minded and cowardly." Tsenrika added, floating before Eva, directly over the skull.
Evalin smiled, "Indeed so my dear Tsenrika. Wonder I if there is a way to choose only those characteristics we wish to have, and leave be the ones we wish not. I fear, however, that such a practice may be beyond our skill at this moment."
"Perhaps the design of the circle is the key." Tsenrika said, revolving slowly, "Place within it only those symbols that may draw out that which you desire."
"Perhaps..." From the table Evalin lifted a small iron scraper. It was like a short metal toothpick with a hook at the very end. This she used to very carefully scrape out the rough shape of a circle on the crown of the skull. Her brow furrowed in concentration, a small frown on her lips as she contemplated her design. She wanted to emphasize the rats ability to sneak around unnoticed, and its nack for finding valuable objects. Simple in concept perhaps, but how does one emphasize this in a carving? After several chimes of debate, and much chewing of the lips, Evalin finally decided on a course of action. Within the circle she just carved she drew a very rough sketch, little more than a line with five smaller lines coming off it, hooking at the ends like claws. This she told herself represented a rats foot, and the rats ability to move stealthily and without being seen. She then scratched out another circle above this one, a smaller circle which she connected with a short line to the first. In this circle she scratched the shape of a Miza... little more than another circle with a smaller circle rimming it. Nodding slowly Evalin set down the hooked scrapper, setting back a moment and looking at her tools.
From the set in front of her the Nuit then took a very small chizzle and hammer. This she used to very carefully indent the scratched drawings she made in the bone, just the tiniest amount using the side of the chizzle instead of the whole head. Once that was done she set the item aside, taking a thin brush and ink well that sat near her left hand. Dipping the brush into the ink Evalin steadied her hand over her drawing, narrowing her eyes to focus on her task. She traced the ink in the indents in the bone, bringing them out a bit more clear as they were now traced in black ink. She did this for her entire carving until she finally finished, the skull now with two circles of black, carved and painted into its surface with a somewhat recognizable picture of a foot and miza within each one. With a sigh Evalin set this work aside, turning her eyes to another project before she began activating the real magic.
