The day was bright, early, and beautiful; it was such a marvelous day and Xen did not want to wake-up to experience it. The sun beams into his room, thanks to the reflective stones that made up his cavern—damn them all to the void. He grumbles under his sheets as the moss beneath him rustles beneath the soft fabric of the bed. Xen raises his covers above his head, obscuring the light from his grumpy eyes. Xen had successfully defeated the burning rays of the sun and praises his sheets for their thickness.

Xen triumphantly grins from under his sheets and dozes back into the realms of sleep until he hears water dripping. The sound echoes throughout the cavern—Drip, drip, drip, driiiiiip. The madness, it must stop! Xen bursts from his covers with the whites of his eyes slightly red in color. He grumbles as he searches for the noise or at least the source of it. He walks towards the entrance of his cavern and peeks outside—the place was silent. However, his room was active with a symphony of evil going on within its depths.

“Ah, thiss iss sso annoying!?”

Xen felt his right eye twitch, his frustration was going beyond the normal limits of a sane person. Xen knew his patience would not allow him to search thoroughly enough to find the dripping and his cavern was too large to search on a cranky and disorganized mind. Xen saw one solution to this…reimancy. Reimancy was his greatest nemesis; it consumes his concentration, demanding it: like a bastard child from a relative you dislike … a lot . Xen positions himself in a sitting posture on top of a moss coated stone in the center of his room. He exhales and inhales to calm and steady his nervous which were almost exhausted from frustration.

The dripping went on, as Xen continues his concentration. He closes his eyes, allowing the world around him to darken and lose its form. Xen concentrates on the sheer blackness and imagines that he’s sitting on the surface of this blackness. The world around him was tranquil and quiet but occasionally the dripping sound would penetrate the blackness and cause ripples within his mind. Xen outstretches his right hand and uses his left hand to grip onto his outstretched hands wrist. He could feel the djed throughout his body, flowing like waters that rage against a calm lakes surface.

A bead of sweat appears on Xen’s forehead which was quickly followed by another. Reimancy was very difficult for Xen, as he was only told the basics of the craft and not how to make the task of using it easier. Xen concentrates on the djed he feels and by sheer force of will—commands it to surface. Xen grinds his teeth, as he struggles to command the djed into the palm of his hand. The task was proving to be very difficult, as Xen begins to sweat profusely. In his stubbornness, Xen holds on until he feels the djed give and appear in the center of his hand in the form of translucent res.

The gaseous production of Xen’s effort levitates in the center of his hand. He opens his eyes and could barely see the res within his hand but he could feel that the substance was there, awaiting his command. Xen concentrated on the dripping; he was very familiar with water: how it looks and how it felt. He concentrates on the res which begins to draw in the water around it.

Xen watches as his own sweat was drawn to the res and finally as droplets of water from the nearest corner of the room floated towards him. Xen grins at his success but was very tired from the ordeal. He uses his left hand to physically mold the res into a spherical shape. Xen maintains absolute focus upon the res and water before him while drawing in the water around him. When he felt that all that was needed to be done was finished, he sends the sphere of water hurtling across the room, allowing it to smash against the wall.

Xen had successfully found the source of his troubles; it resided within the left corner of his room. He was glad that situation was settled but now he had another problem…he was sweaty. Xen did not enjoy giving off bad body odor; it would have others think of him as a dirty person. Xen did not think fondly of this; he did not like to stink for it also gave away his position when hiding or hunting. Xen knew a bath is what he needed, grabbing a hold of his robe and an extra pair of pants; he heads out to the steam baths.

“What if I didn’t know water reimancy?... Yep, I would have gone insssane!”

Xen nods as he answers his own mental question. Innocently, he trots along—not even bothering in turning back to go get his machete or sandals. Xen knew that most of the constrictors didn’t like to wake up in the morning or so he thought. Xen hardly ever notices any constrictors in the early hours of the day: maybe, they were doing something else? He didn’t know and what the constrictors did with their personal time was not his business to begin with. Xen was content with his slow and quiet life; he needed to be strong and focused in order to live out life in the wide and open world.

Xen continues his walk through the cavern and listens to the pit and pattering of his feet. Xen could hear the sound echo through the winding tunnel system, he called home. Xen was a young and vibrant viper dhani. A little derpy at times but he liked the simplicity of his current life. When Xen reaches his first hot spring, he peeks inside to make sure nobody was occupying it—he did not want to be seen naked. Xen was embarrassed by nudity ever since his uncle told him those weird stories about copulation and when he grew big enough, making offspring should be his only concern.

“That perverted conssstrictor, he should have told me that Zinrah was filled with weird femaless.”

Xen strips and places his clothing near the hot spring. He slides his body into the warm water and relaxes, leaving his entire body in the warm embrace of the water. Xen floats on his back and drifts along the surface of the water and observes the moss coated ceiling above him as small crustaceans picked and ate away at the tender and green moss. Xen hated eating plants, they tasted terrible but other creatures seem to enjoy them, he figured that he was just a weird dhani.

Xen kicks his legs and swims in the warm water, letting it wash away the germs and stink from his body while he plays around in the water. He leans backwards to dip his hair into the water and scrubs his scalp with his fingers until he felt that his hair was clean. Xen shakes his head and thus splashes water everywhere. Once he felt that his body was clean enough—Xen exits the pool. A little red crab crawls from its hole and approaches Xen; it cautiously scuttles towards him, fearing that Xen might eat him. Xen turns his attention to the little red crustacean and grins at the small hard shelled critter. He extends his hand in a friendly gesture to touch the little crustacean. The crustacean slowly lifts its pincers: in a way that looked as though he was going to shake Xen’s hand, and pinches Xen on his pinky finger.

“Awww ssso cut- OUCH!?”

Xen pulls his hand back to look at his finger, it didn’t break the skin but it did hurt. Xen looks down at the red crustacean—fowl beast. Xen came to a conclusion; he had to cast this manifestation of betrayal and deception into the void! Xen knew would have his vengeance, he was not going to allow yet another crustacean to deceive him. He outstretches his left hand, gripping his wrist with the right hand. The djed within his body reacts to his will and course through his veins. Xen then imagines a small distortion meters from his hand.

He sweats as the djed flow within his body had slowed thanks to his reimancy fit earlier. The concentration was beginning to eat away at Xen’s endurance and focus, prompting him to close his eyes and mediate. Xen inhales and exhales repeatedly to lower his heart rate some. He tries to close off the sound of the flowing water beside him but the task was to difficult to perform. Instead, he focuses on emptiness—absolute nothingness: a world void of everything but the portal—the crustacean and himself. The djed flows from his palm and a small portal opens some meters from his hand.

“Vengeance isss mine…. aaannnd you’re gone.”

Xen opens his eyes to witness his void portal absorb a small pebble. Xen sighs and releases his concentration to allow the portal to close, it had happened again. These crustaceans will ruin the day they messed with Xen but until next time, they would live! Xen got dressed and walked back home with another defeat on his shoulders.

“I will have my revenge, crustaceansss!”
