Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Date: 18th of Spring, 514

He hadn't eaten yet. He was still a little wet with sea spray and salty mist. He was slightly tired, if only from all the thought required just to get to the docks through the bay itself. Nonetheless, just to be safe, the tow-headed Svefra managed to navigate his way to the Labor Office. He was obviously uncomfortable, calloused hand straying to rub at his freckled, inked left shoulder as he stood in line behind a young Akalak at least twice his size. Chewing the inside of his cheek as he mulled over all the words he could write in common, Ian was left blinking at nothing.

Could he just sleep on his casinor? Did he have to live in the city? Should he even ask? Would they need his skills? Surely, the menfolk here could build ships in half the time the lightweight seafarer could. He worried, studying the other people filling out their forms and doing their business. He felt very small very quickly.

The green-skinned Labor and Citizenship Officer behind the desk cleared his throat politely and the shipwright was startled back into focus, drawing out the awkward silence for a few extra chimes before he found his voice,

"Aye, uh, well, I b'lieve I'm in need of a Labor A-assistance Form, and … a, ummmm, a Housing Form if I must. I usually live on m'boat, but, well, nevermind." Ian trailed off uncomfortably, shifting on his feet and resisting the urge to run fingers through his sea-glass baubled locks. He accepted the forms and took his time filling them out, having to pause and sound out words before writing them. He was confident his spelling in Common was terrible and his handwriting was hopefully legible. He could use the work for the season, whether or not he wanted to admit it.

Ian squinted at his forms a little longer, making sure they were legible before handing them in and exiting into the sunshine out the door as quickly as possible. Hopefully, he would be useful here. There were plenty of ships around, and Riverfall was a port city, after all.

Postby Ruffa Letrella on March 25th, 2014, 7:31 pm

15th of Spring 514 AV
I took a deep breath as I enter The Citizenship, Housing and Labor Aid Office. I pulled the hems of my shirt to relax my nerves.
Ruffa, act confident now. Smile, my mind said.
I inhaled and exhaled as I approach the desk with the green akalak. I smiled as sweet as I can.
"Excuse me, good sir, can I ask for a Labor Assistance form?"
'Here, fill this out," he said in a manner I can't read.
"Thank you," I smiled and went to the seats on the left side of the desk where some ink and pen were available. I sat down and wrote carefully, avoiding erasures.

Date: 27th day of Spring, 514 AV

Sunette had noticed the building when entering the gates with her fellow Symenestra. Little did they know that immediately after stabling the horses, she would be fleeing their presence for what could be forever. It was time for a new start. But, in order to have that new start, she would need somewhere to stay… And probably a job. That's where the aid office came into play.

Walking in, she closed the heavy, wood door as quickly as she could manage behind her, back to it as she took in a sigh of relief. The building was fairly simple, a front desk and chairs being almost the only things in the room. Approaching the desk, she put both hands out on it, smiling wide.

Hello. I'd like to apply for housing and employment, if I'm able.

"Please fill out the following..."

He slid her two forms across the desk, Sunette taking both of them and swiping up a pen along with it. She was able to fill them both out right there, save the question about the expected stay. She really wasn't completely sure how long she planned to be here… But if she really planned to make a living anywhere, she should stay long enough to make money. She wasn't sure how long it would take to find a way out.

She slipped the papers back to the Akalak attendant, her smile small and sweet as she waited.

Fay waited patiently, looking bored, playing with her fingers, as the line slowly ended. The Akalak looked at her, and she just sighed, still getting used to the glances of curiosity, then shrugged. "Papers, please?" She smiled at him a little, still looking a bit nervous. He nodded. "Please fill out the following.." He said quietly, along with giving her the papers and pen. She quickly wrote on it, making sure her writing was decent.

2rd of Spring, 514 AV

Ren Seadrift had just arrived in Riverfall this morning and had decided that since she planned on being here for a little while, she might as well seek out employment, something basic she could do without thinking and make enough to pay for her expenses. The Scroll she had received at the port had guided her here, to seek out employment. She only hoped they had something for a Svefra that did not require a whole lot of time and patience.

As she walked into the building and took a look around the first thing to really catch her eye was the Akalak man working the desk. 'Laviku, these guys are huge.' She thought to herself as she slowly made her way to the large desk. Once there she set her hands on the desk and watched the Akalak as he glanced up at her. "Just need the Labor Aid papers." She explained with a subdued smile before she moved her gaze off to the side while he found her the proper slip. Once it was in front of her she moved off to the side of the desk, to be out of the way of any other visitors, and began filling the slip out.

Name: Ren Seadrift
Race: Svefra
Age: 19
Relevant Skills: Fishin, Saylin, Swiming
Preferred Employment: anythin n the water or barmaid werk
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Jus the Spring

Red slowly slid the paper across the desk and could not help but notice how badly her writing in Common looked. She could barely write as it was and doing so in common was far from easy. She'd had to scratch out words and rewrite them once or twice as she had completed the form. She knew that her penmanship probably was not the worst this Akalak had ever seen, but it still unnerved her as she stared at the green skinned man, waiting for him to tell her of any jobs she could preform.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Natsu Nendo on May 1st, 2014, 4:15 am

13th Day of Spring, 514 A.V.
After checking in at the main gates, Natsu quickly scurried through the busy streets, only making one short stop on his way to his destination. He waited patiently outside of the heavy door until another happened to open it and he scrambled quickly inside. The desk was high above him, and Natsu once again found himself waiting for assistance. Eventually there came a person who lifted him gently up onto the desk, and he bowed gratefully and tossed them a copper Miza as a thank you. The Pycon turned around and gave a short bow to the muscled gentleman behind the desk, saying quickly "
I would like a job form please sir"

The slow and measured reply came as expected, and Natsu Nendo gratefully grabbed the parchment and tugged it over to an empty section of the desk, grasping one of the pens and filling out the form carefullym with surprisingly good handwriting for a creature his size.

Name: Natsu Nendo
Race: Pycon
Age: 13
Relevant Skills: Personable, able to access paths not available to others, quick witted and light footed
Preferred Employment: Message delivery, flower delivery, small packages, etc.
Expected Stay In Riverfall: At least until the end of Spring

He scurried back to the main desk, not quite sure where to place the form, so settling sor sliding it back towards the man who had given it to him "
Many thanks" He said softly, giving another courteous bow
I wish to see the world, yes that much is true. It is also true that one such as myself will have a much better view on the shoulder of a close friend

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Hirem on May 15th, 2014, 5:27 am

63rd of Spring, 514 AV

After stumbling down the street in a dizzy haze, still feeling weak from the ferry ride, Hirem eventually managed to make his way to the front door of the Labor Office. It's location should have been obvious, really, since Hisham had very clearly told him that the Office was located at the end of the main road... but after gazing up at the impressive domed buildings of Riverfall for the first time, Hirem had temporarily forgotten which direction was up and which was down. It was miracle that he had not just collapsed upon the side of the road and stared up at the sky in a comatose awe, struck down by the immensity of the world and the wonders that it possessed.

Even this office, as mundane as it was to native Rivarians, amazed and perplexed Hirem. This is a building where... one finds jobs? And buys property? And becomes a citizen? All at once? It is so strange to think that you must come to a desk and write paperwork before you can achieve any of those. Regardless of how unfamiliar he was with the concept of an Office, Hirem knew that this was the place to be. He had refused Hisham's offer to stay with the caravan, working as just another member of the trading company, precisely because he wanted to immerse himself in Riverfall as a more permanent guest. The caravan, after all, would be leaving for Eyktol in just a few weeks. He did not plan to become ingrained into this city, having so much more to see in the world, but staying here for a few seasons could not hurt.

Taking a deep breath, the Benshiran steadied his nerves, opened the door, and pushed his way into the Labor Office. Immediately, he was struck with the fact that there was an Akalak secretary manning the reception desk - two, in fact! One sat behind the desk while the other lounged beside it, apparently ready to switch shifts with his comrade. This was his first real look at an Akalak up close, and Hirem could not help but be amazed at the strangely coloured skin the two men possessed. Nadia tells me that there are no female Akalaks... only males. The gods must have been crazy when they created them.

While he stood gawking at them, the Akalaks noticed his presence, grinned, and exchanged a joke in their native language. One of the secretaries backed off, slipping towards the far wall, while the other smiled comfortingly at Hirem and ushered him forward. Embarrassed, the Benshiran man complied. "Good day," the secretary began, with a smooth and confident tone. "My name is Malin, how may I help you today? Is it a job you seek? Housing? Citizenship?"

Malin seemed an experienced and fluent communicator in the Common language. Feeling his own ability pale in comparison, Hirem slowly nodded. "A job, yes... I am not sure yet as to whether I desire to become a citizen of this place."

Laughing pleasantly, the Akalak shrugged his shoulders and began combing through the desk's cabinets for his files. "Fair enough. If ever you decide to pursue citizenship - or Kuvan status, as we call it here - feel free to return for the proper forms." Grabbing a sheet of parchment, Malin leaned over the desk and handed it to Hirem. "Please, sit down," he offered, gesturing to the wraparound desk at his side. Obliging, the Benshiran seated himself, grabbed a pen and a jar of ink, and set to writing. The other Akalak secretary returned to the desk, and resumed his engaging conversation with Malin.

Petch, Hirem thought as he stared down at the empty form. I haven't written in Common for years. It wouldn't look good to a prospective employer if I botched the general trade language, now would it? Gritting his teeth, the Benshiran took extra care to make sure his writing was correct and appropriate - though he was sure that a few mistakes had slipped in nonetheless.

Name: Hirem, from the tents of Alachi, of the sons of Rapa.
Race: Human - Benshiran.
Age: 29
Relevant Skills: Familiar with Yahal's faith, experienced wilderness survivalist, physically strong, adept brawler.
Preferred Employment: Religious Aide, General Labourer, Bodyguard
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Until I am compelled to follow Yahal's will Until the end of Summer.

Setting the pen down, Hirem passed both forms back to Malin. "There you are, Abi."
