Evalin grimaced, her eyes cast forward as she dashed through the trees. Over a log, twisting to avoid a limb, ducking beneath a branch filled with prickly bits and strange fruit Evalin dared a glance over her shoulder for her opponent... but he was no where in sight. Frowning Evlain slowed to a stop, looking around her with not just her eyes but the sense of her mind as she grasped at the bond that held them close. Closing her eyes Evalin tried to feel him, to sense his presence... but it was masked, hidden in a fog so thich she could not see through it. Sighing in frustration Evalin looked about her again, hands gripping into fists as she looked for any sign, anything at all.

It came from above, so sudden that Evalin almost couldn't react. Right before it dropped, however, there was a flicker, the smallest bit of awareness trickled through their link, and with a startled glance up Evalin saw the flaming column coming down on her just moments before the blow actually struck. Digging her toes into the dirt Evalin leapt forward, rolling on the dead leaves that padded the ground as flames collapsed over the area where she had just been, spreading out in a radius like water splashing against the ground at impact. Above her Evalin could see the floating orb, the size of a child now, hovering high overhead. This was not the end of the volley, however, for around the orb there lit a sudden ring of flame which divided itself into 4, sending out projectiles as large as Evalin's midsection sailing directly for her.

She managed to hurry to her feet, frantically drawing on res to pour out from her every pour to surround her, to swirl as she spun on her heals, arms spread to guide the spinning res as she did, pulling on the air around her and, right before the moment of impact transforming portions of the res into wind to create a twirling column of air that blew back the leaves and branches around her, but more importantly dissipated the flames as they crashed into the barrier. Evalin was not content to pause there, however, and already her counter strike was already in preparation. The res that she had remaining she collected to her palms, forming a ball roughly the size of her mid section. With a seething his the outer portion began to spark, sizzle and crackle with power as electric power arched from the res center and consumed the power there. Halting her spin Evalin readied the spell, pulling it back to her side with two hands, and when the column of spinning air and fire slowed Evalin thrust her palms forward, sending out a bolt of lighting crackling from her palms toward the floating ball high above. The air crackled with power and Evalin's own hairs stood on end as the spell was released. She could feel Tsenrika now, and with irritation she noticed how calm he was... So cool despite the powerful spell wizzing toward him. But that was her Familiar. Nothing could crack the ice of his soul...

The ball high above did not remain a ball. Right when the spell was released its form was already shimmering, growing in size and mass until Evalin saw herself falling from the height, gravity pulling on the mirror image of herself, pulling Tsenrika out of the spells range so that it flew harmlessly overhead. From him Evalin could feel the power already building, a spell forming even before his feet touched the ground, yet Evalin would not be outmatched. More res came from her palms and with an elaborate wave Evalin collected the remaining flames and air that still spun about her, pulling them together like a whirlpool to collect in a small sphere before her. The wind around Tsenrika was fierce, leaves being blow aside as he landed, and no sooner had the Familiar touched ground did he let loose a cannon of whipping fire and air, but the nuit was read. She thrust her own hands forward, firing the collected flames in a single ball that slammed into the column created by the Familiar, however, within Evalin's there was a tiny sphere of air which swirled fiercely. AS teh flames were eroded the wind was released, spreading out and blowing aside the fires of both spells.

Evalin blinked, for before her there was nothing but empty space. Tsenrika was gone... But then she felt a crackle in the air, her hair standing on end and then she saw to her left, just behind, the floating Irylid in his native form, mere feet away, lightning crackling in a ring around his body. The nuit opened her mouth to begin the question that teased her lips, yet there was no time. Her vision filled with white, and the sounds around her were defend by the thunderous BOOM of the spell.

Wretched Aura: As a Wretched One Evalin possesses an unnatural aura about her that causes unease in those who get too close. It can come as a prickle of the hair on the back of the neck, a sense of 'wrongness' about her. How people experience it is different depending on their personality and how they handle the unnatural and unknown. Animals tend to become more agitated, more easily sensing how wrong Evalin is and often avoiding contact with her.

Twisting Might and Tragic Power

When the white faded, and the ringing began to subside Evalin found herself in the same position, hand outstretched as if to ward off the blow, leaning back slightly to accept the impact, eyes wide and tongue stilled in a silent question. Yet she was not desolated. Her body did not twitch as though it had been struck by an electrical force. There were no burns or missing limbs, yet the hairs on her head still bristled with static even as the orb before her floated to the ground, its form shimmering as she stared at herself. Tsenrika set his hands on his hips, head tilted back as he looked down his nose at Evalin, "Does this truly surprise you...? What you know, I know. It was but a matter of time until I perfected your own art of lightning."

The nuit opened her mouth again, yet still no words came. Gritting her teeth she straightened her body, setting her own hands on her hips as she raised an eyebrow at the Familiar, "Think you so clever? Matter it not if you may act as I do, for never shall you be my equal in that which I have honed on my own."

Tsenrika raised his own eyebrow, their expressions and body language nearly exactly the same, "Think you so? Then let us put it to the test." His hands went to his sides, res pouring between fingers to curl around his hand and up his arm, and then from its depths the crackle of energy came, scorching over the flesh and arms to light the world with energy, "I am a reflection of my Master. What she can do... so can I."

Evalin took her own stance, electric energy already twining around her own fingers just as the did Tsenrika's, "That is yet to be seen." Then, with but a tick between, both let loose their spells, the air surging with light and thundering sound as the lightning slammed into one another, hitting and exploding out as the charges canceled. But Evalin was not one to wait, and already was she moving forward, her res coating her palms as she ducked tot he side and dashed forward with all her supernatural speed. Despite appearances, the Familiar lacked all of Evalin's abilities, and at this moment it was her impressive speed... or so she thought.

The Familiar was already ready, and when he moved his movements were faster than Evalin could blink, his hand already hooking around her wrist even as she jabbed it forward toward his chest, the flames licking back over her palms as she changed the res to fire mid strike. Instead of hitting the familiar square in the chest her spell sailed over his left shoulder, harmlessly splashing against a large trunk as Evalin felt her body heaved and turned over end, landing on her back as the Familiar backed away.

"How closely I watched that fight with Ximal back in the land of the Monks. Saw I how he twisted you and sent you sailing, and now this knowledge serves me well."

Evalin rolled over on her stomach, sucking in a deep breath. Her mind was blank as she played with the strands of her djed, pressing upon her vocal cords, thinning them even as she expanded her lungs further until she bellowed out, her screen high and shrieking. Startled and with a grimace Tsenrika clutched his ears. the noise piercing his mind and breaking his concentration.

Kicking her feet back beneath her body Evalin pushed forward with all her strength, hitting Tsenrika in the midsection with her forearms as she rolled to the side. Ungraceful perhaps, but effective. Addled by the sudden noise and the impact the familiar shook his head, already trying to stand to his feet but Evalin's hands were already working. They wove signs over her head, soft hisses and mumbles escaping her lips as she pulled further power from deep within, spilling it out to form a large mass that floated a foot above. It grew, building further and further until it was as large as her torso, and with a final his the ball erupted in flames. Moving her body, as if to heave the heavy weight of the spell upon her opponent, Evalin let fall the mass of reimancy onto Tsenrika's still scrambling form.

The Familiar disappeared beneath the fires of the girl's passion, his consciousness faded from her mind as well as she stood back with a smile of victory firmly on her features... yet it was short lived. The fires that raged suddenly billowed out, blowing aside by a fierce wind that send hot air crashing into Evalin's body, making her fold her arms before her in defense. Looking past her crossed arms Evalin's smile slowly faded as Tsenrika stepped out from the fire, his arms folded behind his back as he did, "Wild and untamed you are. If we were equals in power, then never could you defeat me. You lack the discipline needed for victory."

Evalin's frown deepens as she lowered her hands, glaring at Tsenrika as he stood amid the flames of her spell as though it were the most natural thing, "I believe you are growing too confident in yourself my Dear Tsenrika. Allow me to humble you before your Master."

Twisting Might and Tragic Power

It was no good, Evalin could already feel it. Her power was waning. She was already pushing her limits with just this much casting, but to compound the issue Tsenrika kept drawing on her reserves as well. it was the fatal flaw of their connection. A singular source of djed which was shared between two bodies. As quickly as it burned it would produce double the power, but far too short was their time...

Evalin bit her lip, a habit she had begun to for despite herself. Clenching her fist her mind worked, wondering where to go, what to do. She was mocked, and it infuriated her, yet what was worse was that she could not deny what was said. She was brash, unrestrained at times. So like... a child. Foolishly running off and striking with fire and hate without giving thought for the moves to come. But, for the moment, it was of no consequence to think and ponder these things. Her opponent was before her, she had to act, she had to reclaim her pride.

Clapping her hands together Evalin pulled on her power once more, filling the space between her palms with res, growing its size until her fingers could barely touch at the tips. Tsenrika was already preparing as well, falling back, his hands at his sides, eyes narrowed. Evalin could feel him pulling on her power now, pulling at the res that began to cloud around him. Evalin felt as though she were being sucked dry, almost losing hold of the spell she herself was summoning, but biting her lip harder the nuit focused her mind harder on the task at hand. She condensed the ball of res, tightened it, and then with a soft press she sent it slowly drifting toward the Familiar. Tsenrika's eyes watched the spell approached and she could sense him trying to scour their connection for Evalin's true purpose, but the Witch firmly held her thoughts down to keep him in the dark. When the small ball was just a few arms lengths away Evalin hissed, and suddenly the air tingled with sparks as the res burst apart, light filling the air in a blinding radiance as the sounds of booming thunder rocked the ground and sent birds flying from their perches overhead. Tsenrika tried to cover his eyes, but it was already too late and found himself blinded by the brilliance.

Evalin's eyes were already closed however, for even as the spell approached its target she was preparing the next stage. She focused on her djed, tracing silvery fingers of will down her arms to her right hand. She found her fingers, pressed beneath the skin and raised the surface ever so as she lengthened each finger nearly an inch. Each fingernail she lengthened as well, filing them to fierce points as she plucked the djed, the surface of her skin along her fingers growing numb as she hardened it, firmer and firmer as it whitened. She imagined the bones of her hands spreading over every finger, fixing every digit and with the power of morphing Evalin willed it to be so until, just as the spell burst and flooded the world with light, where her fingers were there now were merely claws white as bone and just as sturdy, ending in sharp points.

Tsenrika stumbled back, rubbing his eyes to clear them of the white flashes that clouded his gaze. Evalin then rushed forward, her hand moving to grasp the Familiar at the throat and force him back. One leg tangled in his and they both fell to the ground. Before the Familiar could struggle Evalin rolled on top, pressing her knees against the Familiar's upper arms, pinning them to the ground as she pressed the tips of the white bone claws to the Irylid's throat. Growing still, the Familiar did not open its as as he said softly, "An underhanded tactic... One that I did not expect."

"So it seems." Evalin said, running her clawed fingers over the Familiar's jaw, which was her jaw at the moment, and gently drawing circles on his cheek, "It seems you have yet to master all that I know."
