Evalin grimaced, her eyes cast forward as she dashed through the trees. Over a log, twisting to avoid a limb, ducking beneath a branch filled with prickly bits and strange fruit Evalin dared a glance over her shoulder for her opponent... but he was no where in sight. Frowning Evlain slowed to a stop, looking around her with not just her eyes but the sense of her mind as she grasped at the bond that held them close. Closing her eyes Evalin tried to feel him, to sense his presence... but it was masked, hidden in a fog so thich she could not see through it. Sighing in frustration Evalin looked about her again, hands gripping into fists as she looked for any sign, anything at all.
It came from above, so sudden that Evalin almost couldn't react. Right before it dropped, however, there was a flicker, the smallest bit of awareness trickled through their link, and with a startled glance up Evalin saw the flaming column coming down on her just moments before the blow actually struck. Digging her toes into the dirt Evalin leapt forward, rolling on the dead leaves that padded the ground as flames collapsed over the area where she had just been, spreading out in a radius like water splashing against the ground at impact. Above her Evalin could see the floating orb, the size of a child now, hovering high overhead. This was not the end of the volley, however, for around the orb there lit a sudden ring of flame which divided itself into 4, sending out projectiles as large as Evalin's midsection sailing directly for her.
She managed to hurry to her feet, frantically drawing on res to pour out from her every pour to surround her, to swirl as she spun on her heals, arms spread to guide the spinning res as she did, pulling on the air around her and, right before the moment of impact transforming portions of the res into wind to create a twirling column of air that blew back the leaves and branches around her, but more importantly dissipated the flames as they crashed into the barrier. Evalin was not content to pause there, however, and already her counter strike was already in preparation. The res that she had remaining she collected to her palms, forming a ball roughly the size of her mid section. With a seething his the outer portion began to spark, sizzle and crackle with power as electric power arched from the res center and consumed the power there. Halting her spin Evalin readied the spell, pulling it back to her side with two hands, and when the column of spinning air and fire slowed Evalin thrust her palms forward, sending out a bolt of lighting crackling from her palms toward the floating ball high above. The air crackled with power and Evalin's own hairs stood on end as the spell was released. She could feel Tsenrika now, and with irritation she noticed how calm he was... So cool despite the powerful spell wizzing toward him. But that was her Familiar. Nothing could crack the ice of his soul...
The ball high above did not remain a ball. Right when the spell was released its form was already shimmering, growing in size and mass until Evalin saw herself falling from the height, gravity pulling on the mirror image of herself, pulling Tsenrika out of the spells range so that it flew harmlessly overhead. From him Evalin could feel the power already building, a spell forming even before his feet touched the ground, yet Evalin would not be outmatched. More res came from her palms and with an elaborate wave Evalin collected the remaining flames and air that still spun about her, pulling them together like a whirlpool to collect in a small sphere before her. The wind around Tsenrika was fierce, leaves being blow aside as he landed, and no sooner had the Familiar touched ground did he let loose a cannon of whipping fire and air, but the nuit was read. She thrust her own hands forward, firing the collected flames in a single ball that slammed into the column created by the Familiar, however, within Evalin's there was a tiny sphere of air which swirled fiercely. AS teh flames were eroded the wind was released, spreading out and blowing aside the fires of both spells.
Evalin blinked, for before her there was nothing but empty space. Tsenrika was gone... But then she felt a crackle in the air, her hair standing on end and then she saw to her left, just behind, the floating Irylid in his native form, mere feet away, lightning crackling in a ring around his body. The nuit opened her mouth to begin the question that teased her lips, yet there was no time. Her vision filled with white, and the sounds around her were defend by the thunderous BOOM of the spell.
