Ren is a fun loving and friendly Svefra, so long as you are not invading her privacy or her people's waters. When she comes into port she loves to visit many different shops and local hangouts to make friends, barter and sometimes buy little trinkets. She seems to be repelled by the idea of being tied down by long term relationships or friendships and much prefers to enjoy herself wherever she is for a few days then move on to the next place. Sometimes she will stay in one place for a season, at the most, but rarely will she stay longer than that. Ren is always more than happy to make a friend for the moment though and is willing to trade skill for skill or knowledge for knowledge, as she rarely enjoys dealing with Miza.
Spiritually, she is fiercely devoted to Laviku and despite the separation and potential loss of her family she continues to remain strongly loyal to him. She always makes sure to spend some Miza in ports to buy good wine to pour into the sea before she departs to sail the Suvan to the next port. Most of the time she will pour the whole bottle into the sea, though sometimes when she has to get out quick she will toss in Miza's or sometimes beautifully crafted trinkets depicting the sea or its creatures into the Sea for the God.
Deep down though, Ren is wrought with grief and longing for her son. The hope that he still lives and she may someday find him is the only thing that keeps her going and maybe a reason why she refuses to get too close to anyone for any period of time, especially with someone romantically interested in her. She secretly fears having someone else taken from her the way her family and her son were.
Ren was born to the Lia of the Seadrift Pod and was one of the last daughters born to her. She grew up with many sisters and a couple brothers. They lived in a fairly good sized fleet of Casinors and Palivars. They were a big happy family that sailed primarily the southern Suvan and enjoyed trading with the Charoda and the occasional human. At times they took on passengers and ferried them around the Suvan, from port to port for a fee, but mostly they just traveled and enjoyed themselves.
From the time she was born she was swimming, one of her older sisters taking her into the sea just after she was born and letting the young girl experience the Suvan Sea before she interacted with the rest of the Pod, as was the Seadrift way. Ren and her pod often spent much time in the water, the children swimming a lot when the adults went into ports to trade or when they just anchored in the deeper parts of the sea to fish.
As she grew up she encountered many different people and places, but it wasn't until she was fifteen that she really grew interested in people. One particular person sparked this interest in interactions. The day she turned fifteen they landed in port in Riverfell and picked up a man headed down to Eloab on some wild treasure hunt. He was a handsome young man, a little bit older than what Ren should have been interested in, but after they dropped him off at his destination and sailed off, she realized she was pregnant. Her mother, the Lia, was happy to have her daughter bringing in new blood to the Pod, despite the child only being half Svefra, they would raise it as it was just another one of them.
Ren later gave birth to a little boy with blue eyes, tan skin and bronzed hair on the 6th day of Fall on 509 AV. She named him Nerio and loved him greatly. The whole pod raised him and later a few others that were born to her sisters from other men. Despite her caring equally for all the children they all shared, Nerio was still her pride and joy and she gave obvious favor to him. The only times she was fine with being away from him was when she swam, fished with the adults, and went into town to barter. He grew up happy and healthy with his Svefra family, never wanting for anything.
Everything went wonderfully until the Djed storm of 512 AV. Ren and a few adults were in port, having come ashore on Ren's personal Casinor while the Pod ramained anchored across the Sea waiting for them to return. A few little groups of the Pod had gone to different ports to trade, trying to keep from flooding any one port. Ren was shuffled into a shelter hours before it happened, not having gotten there soon enough to then leave and find her Pod to warn them. She managed to escape, her Casinor intact, but she lost contact with her Pod, assuming most dead as no Avikki birds came for her.
It took her a while to get over the loss of her young son, originally she hoped he was somewhere, being taken care of by someone who'd found him, or by one of her former family members who had escaped the storm. Recently she has given up hope of finding him and is simply trying to move on, finally able to smile again without letting the loss show in her eyes.
