-The Apartments-

The ground was cold. Dirt floors offered no comfort to her sore limbs and aching body. She felt a trickle of blood, drool, or mabye a stray tear run from her mouth. Her whole face was numb. She didn't bother to wipe it off, didn't have the energy to. Above her was the rough scuffle and pitiful cries of her brother, she tried not to imagine what was happening. Her heart ached the most. The room was distorted, strange in a way that everything was sideways and upright at the same time. Then the crude stairs leading up from the cellar rose into the air like a wave and came rushing toawrd her. Somehow she found the strength to throw her bound hands in front of her face--

Myra opened her eyes and her breathing slowed steadliy. Reality set in as the dying fire crackled quietly in the fireplace beside her and she was reminded that she was safe at home lying on the hearth. The stone was beginning to get cold. It was only a dream. Another goddamn dream. She rose to her feet slowly, winter made her bones ache. The cat stretched her limbs out fully, splaying her toes and straining her neck ending with a shake of her butt for good measure. She yawned. Milo, her ferret, began to stirr and chitter in his cage. Momma was awake and it was time to play! It took a while to get the little bugger used to her true form. For weeks after she got him when she would let him out in her apartment he would merely cower behind her chests and hiss at her. Now though they were two peas in a pod. She padded over to him and let him out, nudging the lock open with her nose. The dark brown ferret burst through the door the second he saw it come undone, leaping for her forehead and scampering up to rest between her ears. There he did a crazed dance and rocketed off of her head onto the floor and dashed off somewhere to commit mischief. She laughed a deep purring laugh, the kind lions make. He never ceased to cheer her up.

As a rule Myra never though of her childhood, something of only a few short years ago, but the nightmares served as a cruel reminder. Although they didn't come too frequently any more... when they did come it was just too much. She wished they wouldn't come at all and wondered if they would ever stop. Something told her they never would. Thoughts of her brother creeped into her mind as she plodded over to the door her back pack rested beside it and she used her maw to open the top flap. Inside was 3 days worth of rations. 4 more were tucked away inside her personal chest at the foot of her bed, but those were only for emergencies. The backpack also contained a few more items: a map of Sylrias, a belt she had bought for herself but decided was uncomfortable, and also her worn out clothes she would need later in case Faela intended on talking to her as a human seeings how their people forms were stark naked (clothing was important to the humans and such so they couldn't risk being seen by them). Dangerous things happened after dark.

Sometimes she and Faela didn't need to verbally communicate, Pavi was slowly starting to come to her. That and they had known each other for so long now the hunting would go smoothly with what little communication lions and their smaller cat brothers and sisters shared. She was her only friend though and she put up with her haughtiness so she liked she. Her friends from the group of travelers moved on long ago. They came and went, she had only seen a couple of them since her time staying in the city and she dearly missed them. She had other friends of course, Milo went without saying, Pounce when she came around, and Tinymoon could be called a friend as well but only because she was forced to tolerate him. She was lonely though, something seemed amiss from her life. She pushed the thought away to dwell on another day.

With everything in order Myra decided it was probably time to resume her post on the hearth. She observed they were going to have to get more firewood this trip as well, she was down to the last log which she threw on the embers. No windows made it hard for her to tell what time it was but she assumed it must be at least sundown, very rarely she woke up early in the day and if she had overslept to nightfall surely Faela would have woken her. The log began to smolder and she laid on the chilly hearth to patiently wait for the cat Kelvic's arrival. Milo popped out from behind her bed and sideways ran towards her, she flicked her tail at him and he chased it, nipping and dooking gleefully. She pondered what it would be like to be a ferret, so damn jolly all the time. Myra purred, bad dreams forgotten. Where IS that cat?

[Bronze Woods] Hunting at Night (Faela)

Postby Faela Birchsong on April 12th, 2014, 2:41 pm

It was growing dark when Faela was roused from her sleep by a soft prod in the side. Opening her eyes, she recognized her cat-friend, Tinycloud. In the faint light it was hard to make out who he was, so she had mainly identified him by his scent. His fluffy fur stood out in all directions, per usual, and she sensed nothing wrong. "Get up," he said in a small voice, "it's almost completely dark." When she closed her eyes again, he prodded her, this time harder, then padded out of the tent and into the woods. This had been their ritual ever since she had bought him, and it never ceased to amuse her. Tinymoon had always been very humoring when he got frustrated. But, alas, the feline heaved herself to her paws, blinking to wake herself up more.

On the other side of the tent slept Pounce, her other companion. Faela had went out and bought both Tinymoon and Pounce about half a year ago when Tinymoon was 3 and a half years and Pounce was only half a year old. She had picked them among some other cats, mostly at random, but she had gotten to speak with them to know what they were like and she had enjoyed the company of both Pounce and Tinymoon. After she bought them, she let them name themselves, if they didn't already have a name. Pounce told her that her previous owner had given her the name. Faela replied that she wasn't Pounce's "owner", but to call Faela her "companion." It just didn't seem right to own another living being.

On the other hand, Tinymoon's name came with a back story. He used to be in what were known as the Clans. "No, not the Drykas Clans." He had told her with a certainty. What he meant was in a far off place, a forest, there were four Clans, all equal in land, all having a leader, deputy (second-in-command), warriors, apprentices, queens (mothering she-cats), and kits. They often fought each other, the Clans, over territory mostly. Every once in a while, however, there would be two cats from different Clans who would go against the "code" and mate and have kits, therefore one would have to give up their kits to the other Can. In most cases, the female's Clan kept them. Sometimes the father would move in with that Clan, it all depended. "But what about the four Clans?" She had asked the tom. There was RiverClan, home of the fishers, living in marshes beside a body of water, such as a river or lake. ThunderClan, who lived in the deciduous forests, the great, strong warriors. ShadowClan, the sneaky, shadowy warriors who dwell in the pine tree forests. Finally, there was WindClan, his home Clan. He described them as the fast, rabbit-hunting warriors with the most intelligent minds. Of course, she knew he was biased in a way, so she just purred at that time and let him rant on about how wonderful Clan life was. He told her that the humans came and took him away to this place, but he didn't think that they caught any other of his fellow Clan cats.

After he explained everything to her, she asked if he wanted to be bought and released back into the wild. Surprisingly, he disagreed to the releasing part. Of course he wanted to be bought and taken away from the place, but just being in the wild was good enough for him. So, she left with both Pounce and Tinymoon. Pounce seemed happy enough to leave the adoption center. They had kept her very good company for the past half year, Faela was nowhere near as lonely as she had been before she decided to buy some companions.

At that moment, Tinymoon once again entered the tent to see if she was awake or not. The sudden movement startled her from her memories, and she stood alert once again. Stretching out her tired muscles, she grew excited about her plans for the next few days He saw that she was, in fact, awake, and padded up to her. She scanned the trees and forest over his shoulder and saw that the last shining rays of light were disappearing, leaving behind a dark and cool night in the woods. "Are we going hunting tonight?" He asked in the same small voice he always used. They usually went hunting every night, so her answer was almost always 'yes,' but tonight she was expecting to meet a friend at the city gates so they could hunt as old friends. "No, sorry Tinymoon, not tonight. I have to go see a friend and we're going to The Bronze Woods to hunt. We might be gone for a few days. Make sure you tell Pounce where I am." And with his nod, Faela exited the tent. The friend she was visiting was Myra, a lion kelvic. They could easily hunt together, both being felines, though communication was kept to a minimal.

She knew she had to change to get to the city, so she didn't get far from the tent before doing so. This left her naked and very hungry, indeed, but all of her belongings were still in the tent, so she would have to go back to get them. She popped her head into the tent's entrance, smiled at her two cats - Pounce was now awake, - grabbed her items, and once again left the tent. She quickly changed, eager to get to the gate where they were supposed to meet. But, first, she would have to eat. She was practically starving from changing into a human, and she had a lot of food from hunting with her two companions. Scarfing down the squirrel that Pounce had hunted earlier and presented to her as a gift, she stood up and donned her cloak. She noticed her headband was missing from her head, and put it on too. Then, Faela scooped up all her needed items rather hastily and left for the city gate.

--

When she arrived, Myra was not there yet. Sighing into the cool night, she sat down to wait for her friend. "She should be here soon." Faela told herself with a firmly certain voice. All she had to do was wait.
