Trading Interests (Shane)

Leti found herself thinking a bit at Shane's most recent question. She never really had a need to be alone, never found herself wanting. But there were days when it did get to be a bit much, a bit too much pain, or stress, or difficulty. "Well, fishing helps to clear my mind a good bit. And I've recently started taking up yoga. It's quite relaxing, and is what I was doing when Norman here came up to me down at the dock."
His discomfort at the presence of Knights worried her a little bit. Did Knights really make normal citizens nervous like that? Or was he hiding something that would be considered illegal? But for now, she simply ignored it, giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"I've honestly walked past that shop many times, but never found my way inside. Do you just sell books?"

She was about to answer another question, when Norman found a particular woman he didn't care much for. Scared the poor girl to death. Leti helped pick up the clothing, apologizing profusely to the startled woman. The squire found an idea forming in her head, standing up. She knew Ser Henkley was on patrol nearby, and if she remembered right, he had a new Page in his care. "That's pretty much it, my mornings are spent training, my afternoons are either studies, patrol duties, or errands for my patron. Fishing and yoga aside, I don't really have much else in my free time. I'm not sure if it's for a lack of time, or interest, but there's simply not much there. I'm a fairly boring soul I fear."

As they continued onward, Leti came across a massive man in Knight armor accompanied by a boy no taller than her hips. "Good day Ser Henkley."

"Good day Squire, escorting another prisoner?"

Leti laughed, "Something of the sort. Is this your new Page, Ser?"

The mountain chuckled heartily, "Why yes he is, Gielton is his name. Quite the hard worker, not much for chatting though."

"Mind if I borrow him for a favor, Ser? Will only take a few chimes or so? "

"Sure thing, I bet he'd like to hear someone else talk for a change."

Leti crouched down next to the page and whispered something inaudible into his ear, and discretely handed him something. "Thank you Ser Henkley, Gielton."

The little page took off down the walkway, clutching something in his tiny hand. She smiled, watching him go, Ser Henkley walking past them. Her head turning slightly to Shane, her pace resuming, "Have you lived in Syliras all your life?"

He hadn't really understood what she'd meant the first time she mentioned yoga but he could put two and two together. She'd been doing some stretches when Norman interrupted her so that must be what she meant by it. Most things had odd-sounding fancy names and Shane reckoned yoga must be one for stretches in the same manner as authoring was just another word for writing a book.

“I've never fished before but my father used too.” Shane told her. “It's always something I've thought about learning but I've never known anyone before who could teach me.”

Shane nodded when she asked about the shop. “Mostly, we don't get many sales though. Avira, the old man who owns the shop, makes most of the sales to private collectors. We don't get as many casual customers as other shops. In fact I've never seen anyone come into our shop who didn't already know exactly what they wanted and if we had it.” Shane told her finidng it extremely easy to talk about the shop. It was almost relaxing. His job was what took up most of his life and he guessed he took great comfort in that.

“Though we do sell magical artifacts and other curiosities though I can never tell which odd items are magical and which are simply very odd looking things. I need to wear gloves when handling items like that though because sometimes yu can come across a cursed one. Avira told me the last clerk who worked for him had all of his fingers turned into thumbs. The Knights had to-” Shane stopped immediately when he saw the mountainous knight. His mouth worked wordlessly for a few moments before coming to a complete halt.

It was not until the terrifying exchange was over and the young page had ran off with something of Letixia's did Shane fully recover his wits. He was going to make a remark about the size of the man but Letixia spoke first and Shane felt it best to let it go. That man would possibly haunt his dreams though.

“As far back as I can remember.” Shane answered. He had no memory or reason to believe he'd ever lived elsewhere. “Born and raised right here in the Maiden District.” He told her with a smile and a nod of his head twoard the upcoming entrance into the castle. “Have you always lived in the Citadel, Letixia?” As he asked they passed through the open doors into the Maiden District. His room was only a few corridors away now.

Trading Interests (Shane)

Leti always found it funny when people froze at the sight of Ser Henkley. He may be one of the largest men around, but he was one of the friendliest too. She'd never seen, nor heard of him, getting mad or upset. The only thing intimidating about him was his size. Assuming they were near to their initial destination, Leti kept her answer a bit shorter. "My father and I lived near here all of my life, though he is originally from Yahebah. He's a merchant in the Great Bazaar, though he does travel sometimes for goods. He lives there on his own now, has for two years now."

Up ahead, she saw two squires, one of whom was a suitemate of hers in a fairly heated debate. "Could you excuse me for a bit?" She walked up to the pair, and in a hushed voice, "If you two keep arguing in public, you're going to be answering to Ser Daydle. He should be patrolling around here soon. Take it to the dorms." The two looked a bit annoyed at her interrupting them, and made off in the direction that Shane and herself had come. Sure enough, Ser Daydle came around the corner, his kind face and light whistle making the air around him lighter. But anyone who had faced his wrath knew that he was one of the strictest of knights. He was certainly one of the strongest cases of how looks could be deceiving.

She returned to Shane, "Sorry about that. Had to take care of a small issue." She hoped her constant business and interruptions wouldn't scare him off. He kept having these looks on his face like a stiff breeze would knock him over. Perhaps this was too much exposure for him?

“Yahebah?” Shane said with some interest. “I've never heard of that place before but it sounds terribly exotic. I must confess that I've never left the Citadel before. All that I know about the world outside these walls is what I have read and heard. Did your father ever speak about Yahebah? What's it like?”

“Uh, yeah go ahead.” Shane told her when she asked to be excused. For a moment he thought she just wanted to ditch him but then she started speaking to two people he assumed were squires. With her back turned to him and nobody else really looking at him this was the perfect opportunity to train his inner eye on her. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and opened them into a new world. A world of vibrant, moving colours. A wrld where evern a dull, dank corridor looked exciting. He could not help but admire Auristics every time he used it.

Letixia's aura was vibrant and vibrating agitatedly. Maybe she was angry. She did seem a bit too animated to just be having a conversation. At this point Shane had certanly let the notion that she wished him some ill go. After all she'd had him helpless when they'd been talking to that Knight/mountain.

He closed his eyes again as she turned and returned to him. When he opened them again the world was back to it's normal old self. He had a tickle of a headache though from that simple use of Auristics. He hoped some day soon he would be able to hold the sight for longer and learn more from it at the same time. He had faith it would come with practice.

“That's okay.” Shane said with a smile. “Come on, my room's not far from here.” He told her and very soon he was proven right as they came to his room. He opened up the door and Norman bolted inside runining around the small apartment excitedly.

“Happy to be home, ay Normie?” Shane petted the dog lovingly. “Yeah, this is home for me and Norman. Probably not much but it's okay for the two of us.” He told Letixia a little embarrassed about the small size and sheer lack of things. “Okay then say bye to Miss Letixia, Norman. We must be off before I'm late or Mister Avira will have my heard or even worse, my wage!” Shane joked with the dog patting his head one last time before leading Letixia out of the Apartment.

Leti couldn't help but feel like this little walk and chat was going quite well. He showed her where he lived, and she chuckled a bit as Norman shot off inside. The squire took a moment to crouch down and scratch the dog's head, "It was my pleasure to meet you Norman. Keep being a good boy." Walking out with Shane, she knew their time together would soon be coming to an end, and she hoped the page came through with her little scheme. Starting along once more, toward the shop where they'd have to part ways, she hoped she would get to see Shane more.

"You asked me about Yahebah earlier. Whenever Dad would describe it, he would light up, like a kid that just received exactly what they wanted as a present. He said that it was beautiful, like a gem nestled in a ring of sand. They appreciate order there as much as they do here, and even take care of those who find things not working out well for them. Beautiful buildings built from the earth provided to them. It is always busy, and as my father said, a merchant's paradise. I do hope to visit one day, the way he described it just sounds magnificent."

It wasn't much longer until she could see the shop approaching in the distance. Letixia's side of the conversation quickly grew quiet, her smile lessening a bit. Syliras was a big city, it was quite easy to meet someone great, only to never hear from them again. Saying an inward, silent prayer to Yahal, she asked that he help her keep Shane in her life. With that resolution, she stifled down the fear that was welling up within her.

"I should probably get back to my duty, and you to work. But I think I'll stop in soon to find out what this shop might sell to the casual customer."

She spotted a small figure approaching from behind and smiled, "I have a gift for you too." The page tugged on the back of Shane's shirt, and appeared with a big toothy smile. In his little arms, he held out a large leash, waiting for Shane to take it. Leti walked behind over to the page, tussled his hair, crouched down and pecked a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you Gielton. You're quite the gentleman." Somehow, the smiled on the page's face managed to grow bigger, and he ran off, likely back to his patron. "Don't be a stranger, okay?" She waited a bit for him to say his goodbyes before turning to leave, back to her dorm for a bit, a massive smile upon her face.

OOCShall we have this wrapped up in your next post, then start something new?
