Location The Kenash Gazette

Kenash's first and foremost source for news.

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Well-lit at all manners of the day and evening, walls made of rich, painted oak and standing to allow a fostering of information within the city of Kenash. Located just off to the northwest of the bridge leading into Oath Island, the Kenash Gazette is a standing beacon of knowledge and understanding for all things related to the city. All newly-branded Freeborns are recommended to visit the Gazette in order to foster awareness of the city that they have decided to call home. The Gazette is large enough to house galas of its own, the place generally, on a daily basis, housed to approximately one quarter of its capacity: 30 people. This number increases with the outspread of information pertinent to the people of Kenash, but inevitably dies down.

Outside of the Gazette, a rich display of brick leads into the entrance. Though once a person enters, the facade is left behind. A world of soothing white is presented to the readership of Kenash, recent articles written by the owner, Ava and placed strategically upon the walls, fifteen printed sets, inscribed by a copyist purchased by the proprietor, set in display bins before each posted article. Set upon the walls exist a multitude of plaques awarded to Ava for her services to Kenash and the Dynasty patronage that has fostered the widespread of information.

Unknown to the majority of the Kenashian populace, the Gazette has been bought out by the Ackina Dynasty, spreading a darkness within the journalistic intent of the building. Gossip stirs within the city, mystery surrounding the building as the recent years brought an air of enigma about the writers. With this, and Ava's tendency to never leave the building save for important affairs including slave auctions and Dynasty-run galas, controversy is rife beneath the surface of posh readership within the Gazette.

With the acquisition of the Gazette by the Ackina, an influx of the most valuable of tools has been brought in by the Dynasty. Stealthy, effective journalists able to pry into and investigate the goings-on of the other Dynasties. Kelvics specifically trained by Elon and Morrison themselves now account for the majority of information brought in, the writing still done by Ava and her copyist slave, though they have no way of truly knowing whether or not their information is truly accurate or if it is fabricated in order to stir and upset the political balance of Kenash.

Kelvics brought in by the Ackina and into the service of the Gazette are, without fail, of the smaller variety. Birds are, at times, allowed, but the majority are smaller rodents or cats that spend no less than six weeks under the watchful eye and care of Elon herself.

Gnosis: None
Additional Info: The proprietor of the Gazette, this woman ascended to her position with the assistance of the Ackina, plotting with them to overtake the previous owner (who has since mysteriously 'vanished' from the city.) She commands her Kelvic investigators to invisibly cast about the city, reporting to her on a weekly basis so that new stories can be written and continue to stir about the rumour mill of Kenash. This woman takes a great joy in spreading the word of the day, be it real or fabricated, her morality compromised by the coin in her pocket and the comfortable life that she is allowed to live by the heel and toe of the Ackina.

Ava is known to stay within the walls of the Gazette, reveling in her fortune and the life of a renowned storyteller, spending the majority of her time within the second story of the Gazette. In the middle of the night, strange men have been seen entering, but the information is spread only by word of mouth, as any story within the Gazette is written by the woman's hand herself.
