While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Jaeden slowly lifted his head at Aella’s gentle touch and direction, his eyes were already red from the tears, as streaks of flesh trailed down his cheeks when tears cleaned away a days worth of sweat, dirt and grime that had collected over his skin. A feeling of electricity washed over him for a moment, causing small goose bumps to rise over the surface of his skin when Aella’s fingers slowly slid over the back of his neck. His eyes slowly closed as she began to kiss away the tears that continued to force their way out of his eyes, fueled by emotions he though had run their course already.

Soon Jaeden would find he brow pressing along Aella’s shoulder, her arms embracing the back of his neck once again as her cheek laid softly over the side of his head. His body raged with emotion that Ranuri couldn’t seem to suppress. As much as Ranuri had coaxed Jaeden into it, he couldn’t deny that it was what he needed. He had plenty shoulders he could have cried into, but they would have tried to heal with words and council, coddling him by saying it was fate and that everyone would be alright. Some would tell him that it was a challenge to his supposed higher calling, one that he would have to rise above. None of those words would comfort him. No, in the end, a practical stranger, someone he had just met and spent all of about three bells with was the one who got it right on the first try, whether due to insecurity over trying to council someone they didn’t know, or just plain having an indifference towards his emotional pain.

He just needed someone who would listen, who’s own desires wouldn’t cause Ranuri to make him feel better, only to have that despair return after a time without physical contact. Whether it was due to Ranuri, or just the complete unloading of emotional burden he had been feeling, Jaeden felt sleep taking him, feeling slightly guilty over interrupting Aella’s meal. Another set of arms would reach around, embracing him from behind, as silent and caring as Aella’s own. Red wouldn’t be denied the act of comforting her bondmate either. Even more so, she felt no animosity towards Aella for being the one who began it all. Instead, she simply embraced Jaeden as Aella did, and slowly began humming a tune. One that had been ingrained into her own memory after hearing Jaeden hum it for so many times since meeting him almost a seasons time ago. Warmth, comfort and a soft tune hummed, it was almost as if, even for a moment, Jaeden was once again tucked under his covers as a child at him, being lulled to sleep by the soft voice of his mother. How he wish he could remember the words to the song she sang to him, but at that moment, it didn’t matter.

______________

The next morning Aella would find herself stirred awake by the day’s lightly peeking in through the crack of her tent. Sometime during the night she had fallen to slumber as well. While she didn’t remember moving to the tent herself, she none-the-less found herself sleeping inside. Furthermore, Aella looked to the corner of the tent to see her quiver, filled with all the arrows she had dropped over a mile back. As she spied through the crack of her tent to the outside, all she could immediately see was Red at the center of camp, feeding the fire and getting things prepared to cook once again.

Bumps in the Forest(Aella)

Postby Aella on September 13th, 2010, 7:00 am

Aella couldn’t help but linger in her tent for just a little while. The first time she’d gotten drunk, she ended up climbing a tree and falling out of it. What she felt as the light threatened to hit her eyes was exactly that. It felt like the ground had decided to run into her. Did she fall asleep the night before or just finally pass out from adrenaline bottoming out, lack of food, and a decided loss of blood?

Her arrows were there? Her pants… She paused, reaching down to double check. Her pants were there.

She finally, rather begrudgingly, got out of her tent. She was lacing up her bodice still as she kicked her flap closed.

“Did he go off to get breakfast? Gods, I’m starving,” she said. As if on cue, her stomach gave the most pathetic grumbling growl imaginable.

It was then that the pain in her leg returned. She grit her teeth and carried on; Aella Vlaclav was nothing if not stubborn. She rolled her shoulders back and moved to see what Red was doing so she could help.

Red slowly turned her head, watching Aella slip out of the tent, observing her limp first off then looking up at her and giving a nod. “He said he spotted some geese flying overhead when he woke up, and decided to check and by the lake about a mile north of here.” Red answered before slowly standing after feeding the fire. She had tidied up camp in her morning ventures, setting up plates, feeding the fire, packing the preservation kits. At that point, there wasn’t much for Aella to do. “Sit down for a moment, please. I need to check your bandaging.”

If Aella sat down, Red would kneel beside, slowly unwrapping the bandage, slowing down as she drew closer to the thicker bandaging. “I did not like the fact that you shot him, even if it was an accident” Aella then began to say, her voice calm and soft as she slowly began to peel back the cloth that primarily covered her wound, making sure not to tear too much of the clotted wound away in the process, “but I have to thank you for last night.”

Red then slowly began cleaning the wound once again, starting with the area of skin along the outside. “You’ve gotten him to do something that no one else I brought to him since coming out here has done.” Red said as she cleaned the bandage out, now placing it lightly over the stitched area of the wound. “You got him to open up some. Even if it was due to his mark, he let go of some of what has been dragging him down.”

A new bandage was then applied to the cleaned surface of Aella’s leg. “He woke up this morning, and while he wasn’t quite himself again, he was at least a little closer than the day before.” Red then finally said as she began to wrap Aella’s leg. “So thank you.”

Bumps in the Forest(Aella)

She was quiet as she sat down, leaning back and stretching out her leg for Red to tend to. Her eyes were watching the wood’s canopy, gauging how long she’d been asleep and trying to see if maybe she could tell what the weather was going to be like.

“I shouldn’t have tried to take that shot. I wasn’t thinking clearly.” She wasn’t going to apologize to Red for shooting Jaeden, because no one but Jaeden deserved an apology for it. And he wasn’t going to get one either any time soon, though she didn’t say that.

”No need to thank me for last night. It was nothing. I just did what I wished someone had been there to do for me when my husband died,” she said quietly, wincing just a little at what Red was doing despite the fact she knew she was doing her best not to hurt her. ”I’m going to have to head towards a city. I can’t take care of my leg and myself on my own…”

She didn’t seem happy at all about that. However, she obviously had plans to get away from the pair. Then something Red said finally filtered into her mind. She blinked, locking her eyes on her.

“Wait, his mark?” It then hit her. Don’t touch him. That was what Red had warned her. He’d been walking away until she’d pathetically tackled his ankles. When she wanted to comfort him, he had let go… He sobbed on her like she wasn’t a stranger. Aella had experience with slaves. She had experience with those that acted like Jaeden. Her hand went up to her mouth, fingers rubbing over her lips. ”Ranuri…”

Her eyes were suddenly stinging; so was the back of her throat. It took her a second to realize that she was holding back tears. When the thought that he actually hadn’t wanted her there crossed her mind and hurt, she couldn’t figure out why. The question was shoved to the back of her mind so she could focus on the fact that she had to leave.

She’d spent a good amount of her life ignoring her desires. Save for the ones that meant survival, she had no use for them. Now there was someone acting on them for her. It would take her a few days to really register that it was the reason she was panicking, but now she was.

”I have to go. I need to get to Syliras, so I can heal my rest and heal my leg,” she said a little too quickly and quietly for it to be the real reason. She, of course, was left at the mercy of Red finishing wrapping it at that current moment. Otherwise she may have been gone so fast that she wouldn’t bother to take her tent with her.

As Red was finishing the last wrap of her bandaging, she slowly looked upward, taking a quick sniff of the air. She began to look around, her ear twitching slightly over any sound that came from the forest. “No,” Red then said simply as she stood up from her knelt position in front of Aella, “you don’t want to go just yet.”

Red reached to the small belt at her hip, unbuckling it as the red fabric fell loose along her frame, a small wind causing it to flow like velvet waters. He hands clenched into fists tightly as she looked back down to Aella. “There are others circling around the camp.” Red then said, a bit of alarm in her face. “None of them are Jaeden.”

“Get your bow and arrows, I will need your help in this.” Red then requested. “I’ve called out to Jaeden, but he’ll not likely make it here before they rush. They draw closer still. About five of them.”

Bumps in the Forest(Aella)

Postby Aella on September 14th, 2010, 3:25 am

“You’re petching kidding me.” Aella didn’t look alarmed. Aella looked downright annoyed at the mere thought of more trouble. She stood up with a grunt, moving towards her tent. As she went she was muttering under her breath, “Petching shykes could at least wait until I’ve had breakfast…”

She ducked into her tent, grabbing up her quiver. It was thrown across her chest and shoulder before she moved to pick up her bow.

“Most annoying three days of my life… Finally run into a man worth looking at, and he gets all weepy and snotty on me like a little girl. Haven’t eaten. Gored by a petching boar. And now…”

She looked down at her leg as she stepped to get ready to string the bow. As she twisted it to get a position that wouldn’t pop stitches she growled, “And now I’ve got to fuss over petching slavers, bandits, or all-round shykes. Someone is getting shot on purpose this time. That petching hurt.”

And with that she was pushing back out into the camp as she knocked an arrow.

“Good, keep that annoyance, take it out on them.” Red said as he pulled off her cloak, tossing it to the side as her nude backside faced Aella for the moment. “I will try to injure as many as I can and draw some of them from rushing as well. I’ll go for the legs so they can’t move that fast as they come into camp, giving you better opportunity for putting an arrow into them.”

With a flash of golden light, Red began to move forward, his form shifted and growing smaller until the light faded and she was a fox running full sprint towards the tree line. The first of the five came in, a loud shout echoing from his mouth as he held up a mace, his eyes fixed on Aella, losing sight of Red. The small fox Kelvic leapt forward, a growl escaping her lips as she bit down into the man’s thigh, her forward inertia causing her to swing around as the wound tore open further before she was ripped away by the swinging, landing to the ground nearby.

”I’m not annoyed. I’m hungry and tired, and…” She sort of trailed off, appraising the curve where Red’s thigh met her bottom. ”Don’t get hurt trying to protect me, please.”

Shaking her head slightly, she brought her bow up, reaching back to draw forth her first arrow. A deep breath was taken as she knocked it onto the string and pulled back with quick little fingers. By this point her nerves had started to steel themselves, because she was losing focus on the pain even as her heart started beating loudly in her ears. It’d been a long time since she’d actually put up a fight instead of running. Running, for the most part, was easier when you were out on your own from her experience. Unless, of course, they chased you.

She swiveled on the balls of her bare feet to focus in on the first man with a mace. She likely would have mused about the mace due to rather liking the way they looked, but she was a little busy aiming.

Aim. Pull. Aim a little more. Say a quick prayer and let go. She was careful not to twist her arm so that the string hit against it – A mistake when she was weaker and learning that left a bruise up and down her arm.

Her green eyes squinted as she braced herself and let go. The arrow went flying through the air about the time Red went to the ground. It went into the man’s neck. It had appeared to be a good shot, but in reality she’d been aiming for his chest. The chances of her admitting that were about as good as her apologizing for shooting Jaeden. The man was falling to the ground, though she wasn’t sure he was going to stay there.

It did, however, buy her enough time to get to a better position. She felt a bit more protected next to her tent, but more importantly if one of them got close enough, there was a rather large branch to bash them in the face with.

The bandit with the mace suddenly stumbled back a pace, the arrow piercing through his neck. His body went ridged, his muscles tensing up in pain as a horrified expression appeared on his face. Choking sounds echoed from his mouth as blood began to trickle down from his wound slowly. He took a stiff step forward, suddenly swinging his mace at empty air before falling forward, twitching along the ground.

The second quickly entered the clearing from the forest, his hands holding a long spear. He paused for a moment, looking to his fallen comrade as he let out a slow hiss of anger. His body then stumbled forward as Red appeared from behind him, the Kelvic’s body once again glowing in shimmering golden colors as her human form slammed into his body, before shifting once again, leaping from the man’s shoulders again in the form of a fox, allowing Aella a moment of opportunity to fire her arrow at the second one.

Time was running out, however, as Aella soon began hearing the trampling footsteps of the other three approaching. Two of them began coming from the east, the third from behind her tent, coming in from the south. Red barked as she rushed towards the east, in hopes to temporarily distract the two approaching from there as her little furred body disappeared behind the foliage of the clearing. She had killed one already, another, armed with a spear, was attempting to get back to his feet, while a third still approached from behind.

Bumps in the Forest(Aella)

Postby Aella on September 18th, 2010, 3:29 am

Aella felt the bile rise up into her throat as the first body dropped making the noise it was. It was a noise that was unlikely to leave her for quite some time. One down… She felt the blood racing to her face.

Red was doing her best, but still Aella wasn’t an idiot. She knew they were outnumbered, and the truth be told she didn’t really think the odds fell in her favor. Basically what her mind was telling her was that she needed to put up enough of a fight that they’d kill her before getting the idea to rape her. She wasn’t green to the wilds. She knew the stories. She’d seen the carnage, though she’d never get used to it.

As the second man started to get up the ground, she quickly pulled another arrow from her quiver. Her adrenaline forced her senses to be keener, her aim stronger. When she pulled back and let go of the string, the arrow was sent into the man’s skull. Sadly she didn’t have time to be shocked. Instead she spun to start looking for the other approaching men, her hand reaching back for yet another arrow.

It was then that she realized that one of the bandits was standing in front of her – Mainly she realized this because the tip of his longsword pushed her chin up. The only word that went through her mind was petch as she froze in her place.
