Cerulean was sat, like any other night, on a stool. An almost empty glass of rum was in his hands, the second of that particular evening. He was surrounded by strangers. This was not his usual inn, but he wasn't too fussed. A drink was a drink, no matter who served it. The atmosphere was very different than he was used to, but there the Svefra usually found himself the centre of attention after a few empty cups. So, instead of socialising with his fellow Riverfallians, Cerulean found himself talking to the innkeeper.

"Give me another of these, good Sir. Heard anythin' interestin' recently?"

"Certainly Sir. 'Ere you go." The man replied, filling a third glass of Rum, then began rattling on about the various rumours and stories he had heard. Cerulean quickly lost interest - he had a poor attention span when he drank - and only paid attention to the last thing the barkeep mentioned. "... an' I 'ave 'eard there's a Svefra Pod stayin' in Riverfall fer a bit, but ye prob'ly already knew tha'."

"No, I did not know that'. Thank ye." The 24-year-old got up, finishing his third rum quickly. He intended to stay inside the safety of his own home while Svefra stayed in Riverfall, just in case the Tidebornes had returned. Cerulean didn't know where his old Pod was, but he didn't want to find out.

Easily finding the Tideswan even in the darkness of late evening, Cerulean looked behind him nervously. He wasn't scared. Certainly not. That would be silly. He just didn't fancy the awkward family reunion. Just as he was making his way to climb aboard his Casinor, he took a closer look. There was the silhouette of somebody on his boat. There was a person breaking into his ship! There had been stories of people stealing boats around Riverfall, so Cerulean made sure he had locked everything safely, but that might not have been enough.

"Oi! What do ye think ye're doin'?!" Cerulean ran over to the Tideswan, ready to climb up and confront the thief.

A Misunderstanding [Kel]

Leth’s glow shone through the thin layer of clouds that hung in the sky above, covering the city of Riverfall in a layer of shadows and mystery. Dark waters lapped gently against the ships moored alongside the piers. A hushed silence hovered over the docks, the last of the workers having gone to the local taverns or their homes for the night.

A small casinor could be seen bobbing lazily beside the wooden planks of the pier. Suddenly the door to the cabin was thrown open, slamming against the side of the structure with a loud thump. A lone figure stepped through the opening into the dim glow of the moon. Black, tousled hair blew in the soft wind as the man yawned and stretched lethargically.

The Svefra groaned as he felt the torn skin in his leg tighten, the hardened scab trying to pull away from the healing skin. The booted knife he had taken to the leg from a bandit who had decided to try and take his tavan from him had done a number on him. The injury was slowly getting better but he had seen better days.

Kel Tempest sighed and made his way over to the side of his ship, feeling the deck shift slightly under his weight. He adjusted his stance, walking aboard a ship was second nature to him from his life on the sea. He leaned against the gunwale, looking out across the sea, watching the moonlight reflect off the glassy surface of the sea.

The skittering of nails on the wooden floor boards pricked Kel’s ears and he looked over to see his tavan slowly limp out from the cabin. The furry mammal had also received a nasty wound to the back of his leg from a mace during the same attack. Jenkins wrapped himself around the Svefra’s boots and chattered quietly.

Kel scoffed.

“Please, you look worse than me…”

The Svefra shook his head, his blue eyes idly wandering over the decks of each ship that stretched out in front of him. But suddenly his eyes flickered back to one that caught his attention.

It was a casinor.

The small vessel bobbed gently in the water besides the pier, five ships down. It’s empty deck and secured sails bothered him. The past few days, they had discovered two stolen casinors in the sea manned by non Svefra. The Tempest pod had relieved the thieves of their vessels, letting Laviku claim their deceased bodies.

Kel felt resentment bubble in his chest and a flicker of anger flashed in his eyes as his sapphire orbs drilled holes into the vessel. What if that one was stolen as well? How dare some petching land dweller possess a Svefra made ship?

A snarl twisted the Svefra’s features and he spun on the deck, disappearing into his cabin. A few ticks later, he returned with his trident in hand, pain in his leg forgotten. He looked down at the small sea otter, eyes narrowing.

“Jenkins, stay. You hear me? You follow me again and I swear to Laviku I will skin you alive and make Ty a new scarf.”

Kel glared at his rebellious tavan but turned his attention back to the potentially stolen ship. The Svefra jumped onto the railing of his ship, one hand wrapped around one of the mast’s lines, the other loosely holding his trident. Kel leaped across the small gap between the two ships and landed with a thud on Tydus’ ship, the Tempest Wind. He strode across the deck towards the other side; eyes locked on the casino a few ships away. His injured leg informed him of its presence but he ignored it. The black haired Svefra eyed the distance between Tydus’ ship and the next one. It was a little farther away than their two had been. He didn’t even paused but took a running start and planted one foot on the railing and leaped over the side.

Kel was airborne for a few ticks before his boot met the railing of the next ship. He continued running and jumping from ship to ship, heedless of whom’s they were. A few chimes later, the rash Svefra landed on the deck of the allegedly stolen casinor. He stood quietly, listening. He heard nothing but the soft lapping of the water against the wood. The deck shifted slightly under him, a feeling he was familiar with.

Slightly disappointed that no one came out to challenge him; Kel narrowed his eyes and stalked towards the cabin door. He didn’t even bother checking to see if it was unlocked, he lifted his uninjured leg and slammed his boot into the wooden door near the lock. The force of the blow splintered the wood around the fasten and ripped it free. The door slammed back into the cabin wall.

Kel spun the trident in one hand, the jagged prongs pointing towards the inside of the ship as he strode through the doorway, weapon held at the ready. He was sorely disappointed when he found an empty room. He sighed and lowered his weapon. The Svefra began poking through some of the objects in the room, trying to get a feel for the person who lived there.

Loud footsteps thumped across the pier pulling him away from his search, causing Kel to whirl around. The Svefra strode back through the doorway, trident held at the ready. A voice rang out as a man stood by the pier looking at the ship in shock. Kel snorted at the question. He lifted his three pronged trident and pointed it at the man.

“I’ll be askin’ da questions here. Why yeh’ be aboard a Svefra ship, eh? We don’t like filthy land dwellers stealing our ships…”

The Svefra waited for his Oceanus gnosis to inform him that the man in front of him was also blessed by Laviku. But he felt nothing. Kel’s eyes glinted dangerously. The man better talk fast or he wouldn’t be the first to find himself offered as a sacrifice to Laviku for taking what wasn’t his.

A Misunderstanding [Kel]

The man stood upon the Tideswan was tall, blue eyed, holding a trident and looking at ease on the ship. Petch. A Svefra. His kin were notoriously bad tempered and, judging by the state of the Tideswan's poor cabin, this one was no exception. But then again, Cerulean was also a Svefra. The Markless could feel his blood starting to boil - the alcohol with it - like the coming of a storm. But then the trident made a rude entry into the conversation, forcing Cerulean back a few paces.

"How dare yeh? I have just tha' same right to tha' ship as any Svefra! Do yeh not see me eyes? I'm no land dweller, and I haven't stolen anything! Or, at leas', not this Casinor!"

Just as he said that, the sky opened and poured down on top of the two, drenching the already damp pier and deck within a minute. Cerulean kept his eyes locked on this newcomer. He didn't entirely trust this newcomer who had barged onto his boat and broken down his cabin door, but as a general rule of thumb, never aggravate a Svefra with a trident very close to your flesh. So Cerulean took a careful, slow step back, raised his balled fists to his shoulders and splayed his hands. A spurt of Fratava followed a deep breath.

"Look 'ere, I'm a Svefra, jus' like you. I jus' don't 'ave an Oceaus Mark, is all. I know tha' may seem strange ta you." Cerulean's voice had a sarcastic edge to it, especially in that last sentence.
"Now, this ship were given ta me by me old Pod, ta Tidebornes. Tha's me name, see? Cerulean Tideborne. Now, can yeh please find it in yer 'eart ta not kill me? I'd very much like to keep all my innards where they belong."

Cerulean lowered his hands just as carefully as they had come up, keeping his eyes on the other Svefra at all times. Now it was just to see what the other one had to say.

Anger was evident in the dreaded man’s face as he yelled at the black haired Svefra. Kel rolled his eyes and grunted, waving his hand in small circles impatiently, trying to speed the conversation up. All he heard were excuses and hot air. Kel continued to hold the trident towards the man standing on the dock, still not believing he was who he said he was. Sure, he had blue eyes and claimed the casinor as his own…but no Oceanus mark? What the petch?

His angry rant was interrupted as the heavens opened up and unleashed its wrath upon the earth and sea. The Svefra’s hair and clothes were instantly soaked under the torrent of water, water trickling into his eyes forcing him to squint so it wouldn’t blind him. He pushed his wet hair out of his eyes and stared passively back at the allegedly innocent man.

Kel laughed aloud when the man stepped back and lifted his fists into the air. Kel could see by his stance that the man had never been in a fight in his life. The black haired Svefra cocked an eyebrow up at him mockingly.

“What’da gonna do there, mate? Hope yeh’ are a better fighter than yeh’ be lookin’ otherwise yeh’ ain’t gonna’ be doin’ much against me’ trident.”

Finally he changed from speaking Common to Fratava and Kel’s doubts were slightly eased as he heard his mother tongue spoken fluently in the way that only a true Svefra could speak it. He was still confused as to why the Svefra lacked a gnosis mark. It was unnatural for one of Laviku’s children not to have his blessing. It was also dangerous. It made him uncomfortable and Kel had no intentions of trusting this man, not that he trusted people anyways.

Kel lowered his trident slightly before grunting and spinning the weapon in a circle. He set the prongs against the deck of the ship and rested his arms against the butt of the pole. The man in front of him wasn’t a threat. Even if he was, something dark lurked in Kel’s eyes, daring him to give the violent Svefra a reason to fight him.

The gnosis marked Svefra was willing to accept the man to be at least some kind of Svefra; Svefra enough not to force Kel to gut him and dump him overboard for possessing one of their casinors. Kel gestured widely across the deck with one hand cockily, inviting Cerulean onto the ship.

“Alright, mate. I believe you for now. I still don’t understand why you don’t have an Oceanus mark. That’s just petching weird…”

In the deepest corner of Kel’s subconscious, he realized he might have been a little rash to break into the man’s ship, destroying the door but he genuinely didn’t care. He was feeling antsy and restless from being land locked for so long.

Cerulean Tideborne had just the unlucky bloke to have the Svefra's pent up energy taken out on.
