aw, thanks for the warm welcome. I've chosen my character's race and name but can't really figure out what I'm supposed to do after I've chosen a city for her to live in. Do I just start playing? Do I need to post a profile of my character? What?

You'll want to post a profile ("character sheet") for your PC, so that you know what starting skills you're going to have, and maybe a bit about your character's history. After that, pretty much, you just start playing ^_^ You can start an open thread, or you can message the moderator of your city and see if they can't throw an opening thread your way.
