Birthplace: In a trade caravan traveling through the Sea of Grass

Physical Description:

Seirei is currently 4'5", but it seems likely that she will have at least one more growth spurt before she reaches her adult height. She has a slender, wiry build that gives her something of a waif-like appearance. Her skin is a dark tan, inherited from her Drykas father. She has thick, wavy waist length black hair that seems to shine when the light hits it the right way. Her large, doe-like eyes are a deep twilight blue. Their size and shape tend to make her look younger than she actually is.

Character Concept

Seirei can be a little shy at times, especially around strangers. But she warms up to people quickly...most of the time. She is warm and frendly towards those she likes, but can be distant and cool towards those she doesn't like, or doesn't trust. Seirei is bright and curious. She loves learning new things, and mastering things that interest her. She can be a bit of a perfectionist at times, though. And she is quick to lose her temper at anyone who disturbs her while she is working. Seirei has a sweet, gentle nature, but she can get quite passionate, and excited about things she loves. She can also be very stubborn when the mood hits her.

Character History

Seirei was born in late winter during the year 499. She was born in the middle of a vicious storm, so it was impossible to look for aid when complications arose during labor. Despite this, both mother and child survived. Seirei was loved by everyone in the trading caravan she was born into. As a young child, she was cared for and indulged by anyone who was handy if her mother was busy. She always had someone willing to listen, or entertain her, or teach her something. Growing up in such a positive environment made Seirei love everyone in the caravan in turn. They were all her family, and she was theirs. As a result, she had a very happy childhood. When she was 12, the caravan hit a run of bad luck. It started out with small, minor things. A missing crate of goods. A sprained ankle. A storm that delayed them in their travels just enough for them to miss the best trading opportunities at a festival. Things of that nature. No one person suffered more than the others, and Seirei ran into her share of bad luck just as everyone else did. But the streak of bad luck lingered, and as it progressed, things got worse. As one year turned into two, then three, moods soured, and tempers frayed. People began to leave the caravan eventually. Those that stayed were the ones who had no where else to go. Desperately looking for someone or something to blame, people turned to Seirei. Her half Drykas blood became a thing of suspicion. And as the bad luck still continued to linger and worsen, people began to blame her for their misfortune. Only her mother and older brother were certain that she was innocent. Things came to a head when her mother died of a simple fever that people felt should not have claimed her life. It was decided that the source of their bad luck had to be removed...and that was believed to be Seirei. No one wanted to kill her outright, though. Source of bad luck or not, those who remained with the caravan liked her, and no one was able to hurt her directly. But they couldn't allow her to stay and infect them with her bad luck anymore either. So they drugged her evening meal with a drug that would make her sleep for at least a full day. Then they abandoned her out in the Sea of Grass, where they were travelling enroute to their next destination. They hoped that she simply wouldn't wake up, and that she'd pass from the world without any pain or suffering. But they weren't certain that that would be the case, and if she did wake up, they wanted to give her a chance at survival. So they left her her personal things and some food; that way if she did wake up, and manage to find her way to civilization, or get rescued, she would have a way of providing for herself.

He was 2 hours when he appeared as Seirei's gift from the silver chest on the 77th of Summer, 515 AV. Thunder has strong with long legs and a beautiful disposition; he will make a fine stallion one day. He has a small white sun mark hidden under his fringe.

Thunder is kind of complicated. He's part immature, carefree foal. He loves to run, chase shadows, and butterflies, and any other foal like game you can imagine. He's spunky, full of life, loves adventure, and can be very curious. He has to investigate each and every new thing he sees. And he loves treats. What the treat is doesn't matter so much as that someone is offering him one. He'll be nearly as happy with a few handfuls of grass as he would be with an apple. Hunting cats and dogs that he has been introduced to won't bother him. "Strange" ones will.

As far as people go, he is wary of strangers. He has taken an instant like to Seirei, and will follow her around like a puppy if allowed to do so - possibly part of the magic that placed him in the chest for her. He will "adopt" anyone Seirei likes and trusts quickly. He will do the same with people who live with him (because the pavilion and all in it are his thank you very much - in his opinion, at least).

Thunder is fiercely protective of what is "his." Seirei and the people she lives with fall into this category, as does his mother, and the other animals of the pavilion. This is a trait that will grow stronger as he grows. Thunder will never bite someone he has claimed as his own. He won't do anything that might harm them (though with some things, he might need to be taught that they will harm them). But he will bite a stranger that tries to touch him if they don't introduce themselves to him first (by offering a hand for him to smell and giving him the choice to accept them or not). And he is likely to attack someone/something that threatens one of his people.

Thunder loves to learn, and he learns quickly. He needs to be kept challenged and entertained or he might go looking for something to entertain him. Chaos may ensue if he takes it into his head to walk into a tent to see what's inside, for example.

He will make a great (if overprotective) herd stallion when he is old enough. I'm hoping to eventually have a herd for him, and have him bred with the intention of selling the foals some day. His love to run will never fade, though he will settle down into a more serious stallion (usually; he will always have playful moods) as he grows older.

Kairi: a 6 year old Claybank strider mare who has a small white crescent moon mark hidden under her fringe. Although she isn't bonded to Seirei, she is extremely protective of her for the sake of her foal. Kairi tends to watch anyone who approaches her rider very carefully. If Seirei knows, and likes them, she is content to leave them be. But if she doesn't recognize the person, Kairi's protective instincts kick in. If the stranger offers Seirei any kind of threat, she will do anything she can to protect Seirei. And if the stranger seems to distress Seirei without presenting any kind of threat, Kairi will go to her, and loom protectively in the background, a distinct warning to any who wish Seirei harm. Kairi is sensitive to Seirei's emotions and will try to cheer her up or comfort her if needed, distract her from her thoughts if needed, and so on. She is endlessly patient with Seirei's inexperience with horses. In some ways, she treats Seirei much as if she is her foal. But for all of that, she is determined to make Seirei earn the right to ride her through proof of knowledge. Kairi encouraged Seirei to ride her when she came for her on the 77th of Summer, 515 AV, even insisted on it. But she won't permit herself to be ridden again until Seirei learns how to ride properly.

Shadow: a young female cat Seirei found abandoned out in the Sea of Grass. Shadow is very affectionate to Seirei, and loves to cuddle with her. She likes the other people in the pavilion well enough, but Seirei is her favorite, and she makes that quite clear. She can often be seen following Seirei around the pavilion if Seirei is there.

Housing

Location: She was living with the trade caravan she was born into until they abandoned her. After she was "rescued," she lived with Lian Windrunner in Endrykas as his captive. But on the 77th day of summer, 515 AV, Seirei made an offering to a mysterious silver chest that appeared in Endrykas. In exchange for her offering, she received a young strider colt from the chest. His mother arrived soon after to claim both Seirei and the colt as her own. Now that she has bonded to a strider, Seirei is free, and is currently living with the Dawnwhispers.

1. What is your Name?
My name is Seirei.
2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?
Not any more, but my older brother used to call me Sei.

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.
I am a wood carver. It is more than what I do - it is who I am. I was enslaved in Spring of 514. They Drykas called a captive rather than a slave, but I was a slave all the same. But last summer, I was freed when I bonded to a strider. I will be forever grateful that Thunder came to me. But now I don't know who I am anymore.
2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.
The man who captured me sees me as a brood mare. An animal to be bred to suit his needs, and used whenever he pleases.
3. What is your favorite body feature?
I've never really thought about it. Maybe my hair?
4. How physically fit are you?
Reasonably so, I guess.
5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?
I dress simply, and comfortably. Style? I haven't ever really thought about it.


Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?
My mother's name is Serra. I've never met a nicer, more wonderful person. She was a wood carver like me. I learned my love of working with wood from her. My mother never had a harsh word for anyone. She was a good listener, and always had good advice to offer when asked. She was gentle, and kind. Her death was a horrible blow that I don't think I will ever get over completely. My father's name is Tirak Stormweaver. He's a Drykas. My parents met when my mother's caravan came to Endrykas while he was there. They had a brief fling that resulted in me being born. Growing up, I saw my father each year for a few weeks when my caravan came to Endrykas to trade. He taught me Pavi, and told me stories about his people. That may be why I can't bring myself to hate the Drykas for the way my captor treats me. I haven't seen my father in four years, and I don't have any way of contacting him. I don't know if I'd want to if I could. I don't even know if he's still alive.
2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have a half brother named Jared. He's two years older than me.
3. What is your extended family like?
If I have any, then I don't know about them. But you could say that my caravan is my extended family. Though not related to me by blood, they helped raise me.
4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?
I would say that a truly close friend is as important as family. In a very real sense, they are family.
5. Do you treat animals like family?
In some ways, yes. Horses are a very important part of our trade caravan. Without them, we wouldn't be able to move our goods.

In a trade caravan traveling towards Riverfall.

In Endrykas.
3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?
I really don't know. Before my caravan abandoned me to die, I would have said I'd want to live with them. While I was a captive, I would have said anywhere but here in Endyrkas. But now? I have a home here now, with some very kind people. And now that I am a Drykas, people treat me as an equal instead of a slave. I have some very bad memories of this place, and I don't know if I will ever truly feel safe here...but I don't know that I would feel any better if I were somewhere else.
4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time?
No.
5. Where do you fear to be?
In Endrykas with my captor.

No.

Right handed.

Common is the language I grew up speaking. But my father taught me Pavi when I was young, and I have learned even more of the language since then. I speak pavi with a heavy accent, but I can understand it well enough.
4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Not that I can think of.
5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them) ?
I need to get my windmarks now that I've bonded to a strider.


Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?
I am a wood carver.
2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?
I love my work. It is a wonderful thing, being able to take a piece of wood, and make it even more beautiful than it already is by releasing its inner form. And carving is a way of staying close to my mother now that she is dead.
3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?
A wood carver.
4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?
Carving especially, but anything to do with the arts. Creating something beautiful is a wonderful thing. The world needs more beauty in it.
5. What occupation do you least like? Why?
I never really thought about that.


Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you?
From a very young age, I was fascinated by carving. I wanted to learn everything I could, and be as good as my mother was. Other than that, I think I was a typical child. I was fairly quiet, but I had several close friends, and we knew how to have fun and explore the cities our trade caravan visited. I wasn't really a trouble maker, but I did have my moments...just like any other child, really.
2. What is your favorite memory from childhood?
All of my memories of my mother teaching me how to carve wood.
3. What is your worst memory from childhood?
I would have to think about that one.
4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents?
I was very close to my mother. I liked my father well enough, but he really wasn't much of a father to me. I only ever saw him when my trade caravan came to Endrykas.
5. Who was your most influential role model?
My mother.


Education :
1. What sort of education do you have?
I know how to read and write, if that's what you mean. I know a trade; that of a wood carver. I know what it is to live among a trade caravan. And I am learning how to live as a Drykas.
2. Do you like/dislike learning?
It depends on what I am learning.
3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities?
From my mother.
4. How do you learn best?
Hands on.
5. What are your educational goals for the future?
To learn what I need to know to live independently among the Drykas.


Relationships :

Yes. I am happiest when I feel that I am a part of something, and having close bonds with my friends helps with that.
2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not?
I used to be a lot more trusting than I am now. When I was a captive, I learned just how cruel people could be.
3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else?
I've never really thought about it. Probably straight since I have never been attracted to a girl in that way before. But I can't really see myself ever trusting a man enough to give myself to him in that way either.
4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time.
Yes. I hated it.
5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time.
Yes. My captor raped me every night for well over a season until I got pregnant, and a healer told him that forcing himself on me might hurt the child I was carrying. Each time he took me me was horrible. But the first time was the worst.

Description: Taerin has a slender, waif like build that makes her look younger than she really is. Her height doesn't help matters any; standing at 4'1", she is tiny. Given her age, it is possible that she still has a growth spurt coming, though. She has wavy waist length dark auburn hair, and fair skin. Her large, doe like brown eyes also add to her child like appearance. They are very expressive, making it nearly impossible for her to hide what she is feeling.

Personality: Taerin is very fragile emotionally right now. She is shy, and timid, especially around men. It wouldn't be wrong to say that her spirit has been broken. But with time, and patience, she will recover, and rediscover who she is once she is no longer a captive. It is likely that she will never be outgoing, though she may learn to trust more readily again. Before she was captured, she had a child like sense of wonder for the world around her, an intense love of learning just about anything, and a love of beauty. These qualities will probably return to some degree as time passes, but she will always remain somewhat timid, and wary around men she doesn't know.

Background: Taerin is half Drykas by birth in that her father was a human trader, and her mother was a Drykas from the Ruby Clan that was hired as their guide. But she will become a full Drykas and bond to a strider in thread before they leave for Riverfall.

Other: As a former captive of the Drykas, Seirei is sensitive to others who are in that situation. So when she meets a captive who is being treated even worse than she had been when she was a captive, Seirei wants to help. Partly out of understanding and sympathy, but also partly because she was given the help she so desperately needed when she bonded and was freed. Now she wants to return the favor by passing that kindness on to another in need. Since Taerin has a similar past, Seirei identifies with her even more, and her desire to help her is even greater than it would be with another captive. When Seirei leaves Endrykas, she will bring Taerin with her.

Personality: Meiran is spunky, and adventurous, with a fierce love of life. She has a quick temper, but she forgives and forgets as easily as she gets angry. Meiran is fiercely protective of her loved ones, and of anyone she sees as weaker than she is. She lives every moment to the fullest, and loves a good challenge.

Personality: Raiden has a boyish charm that makes it impossible not to like him. He's a bit of a rascal, often getting into adventures and trouble. He is
fiercely protective of his loved ones, as well as those weaker than he is. He loves a good challenge, and is always looking for adventure.

Other: He will be tied to the Web when he is born, and will bond to a strider when he is older. Raiden will be Meiran's best friend when they are old enough for such things. In the distant future, they may get married.

Description: Teirue is a beautiful baby. All babies are considered beautiful to their parents, but has a delicate beauty that anyone can see. Of the twins, she was the second to be born. She is much smaller than her brother, and was born with a low birth weight. Teirue has tiny, delicate features that give her the impression of being very fragile. She was barely over 4 lbs (4.3 lbs) when she was born; anything under 5.8 lbs is considered to be low. She has bright blue eyes, and light brown hair that has red highlight that are visible when the sun hits them the right way, giving her hair a reddish tint.

Personality: Teirue is timid, and shy, especially around people she doesn't know. She tends to be on the quiet side. Teirue can be very sensitive, even delicate. She loves nature, and beautiful things. She has a deep love of carving that she inherited from her mother.

Other: Teirue was born with the first mark of Caiyha on her right leg, marking her as a witch of the grassland biome. Her gnosis mark takes the form of a stretch of grass and flowers with a female night lion watching her cubs play. Clouds float lazily overhead, and a falcon flies among them. The triskelion is nestled among the grass. She will be tied to the Web when she is born, and will bond to a strider when she is older.

Kiera is Seirei's older sister. She was born mute. At first, people in the trade caravan she was born into simply thought it was strange that she never cried. But after a few months, they realized that something was wrong with her. They feared that the bad luck that resulted in her being born mute would transfer to them, so it was decided that she couldn't stay with them. Rather than leave the caravan with her daughter, her mother left her at the orphanage in Syliras where she grew up until she was old enough to set out on her own. Her mother left a letter with her as well as a picture. Kiera has kept these things close throughout her life.

She went to Riverfall where she befriended a Drykas who taught her pavi. She communicates only through pavi hand sign, and writing if paper is available.

Growing up, Seirei never knew that her sister existed. She will meet Kiera this summer when Kiera is taken as a captive. In the future, she will come to live with the Dawnwhispers, and eventually bond to a strider. But for now, she will be owned by the Sunweaver Pavilion (the family of another of my NPCs).

Reasons for having him:

Aidan and his twin, Mairin were victims of the pirate raids of Winter 515. Between the raid, and the battle at the end of the season, the twins were the only survivors of their pavilion. And they've been doing what they had to in order to keep themselves alive since then.

Aidan is fiercely protective of his sister, even more so now that they are orphans. He can be charming when he wants to be.

Seirei will find this season, and take them into the Dawnwhisper Pavilion. They are old enough to be a big help, around the pavilion.
