The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Today was a special day for on this day Kaik will create a golem he can call his own. Normally he would give away his creations, but this one...this one he would keep. Instead of buying a doll, he wanted to make it with his own hands. This certainly would take longer but he didn't mind. He lays out his tools of trade on the ground along with a few blocks of wood. His eyes stray toward his ring, It's been too long since I seen your face Ellen... He sighs I need to focus..
Kaik begins by picking up his carpentry axe and hacks at the pieces of woods guessing the sizes of wood he would need. Kaik intended to create a doll about half his size. With that in mind he continues chopping the wood into various sizes and shapes. Cutting the woods in the shape of a torso, limbs, and head were simple enough as they were large pieces of the body. He had to take his time with the hands. The hands were small, precision and care would be needed in order to get the fingers the right size and shape. Kaik had trouble cutting the fingers, but with a little luck was able to get the fingers just right. With that difficulty done he proceeds to the face. Although getting the right size and shape of head was simple, creating the ears, nose, mouth will be painful.
Pulling out the knife from his gauntlets he starts by shaping the features of the face. It takes a while but the face does eventually form. Still mistakes and flaws are obvious. A simple emotionless smile was all Kaik could manage with what he had. A deep slash was made across the nose which was not intended. At best one would have to call it rough, better than someone who just started carving but certainly not at par with more experienced carvers with better equipment.
The pieces of wood were placed in the formation of a human, while the mistakes were thrown unto a pile away from the good parts. The next step was to smooth out the parts. Without any carving tools Kaik had to make do with his axe as he always had. For smaller, detailed smoothing he used his wrist knife. Nicks and marks scatter around the entire body. After smoothing out the entire body he steps backs to look at his work. The doll looked fine from a distance, but upon closer look the mistakes are obvious. Still Kaik smiled, seeing nothing but beauty in his creation. The next step was to connect the pieces. Kaik looked at his creation one more time before heading for his bed to get some rest. After trying to carve wood with an inadequate tool he knew tomorrow he would need to buy a proper tool for carving. |

A nameless doll lies on the ground still uncompleted. Footsteps can be heard as the door to the house opens. Kaik walks inside closing the door behind him. "I am stupid!" He says aloud, trying to calm himself. In his hand is a new axe made for carving...costing only one gold..."Just one gold coin, would have saved me so much time" Kaik looks at his creation, his frustration falling slowly. After awhile Kaik is once again ready to create his golem.
In the creation of the body, what challenges most is the joints. Kaik dislikes the thought of wheels on his creation. His goal is to create a humanoid golem, taking the easy way out wouldn't teach him anything. Still the question remains...how to create joints? Kaik mulls over this question looking at his own body for the answer. As long as I used flexible materials would the golem be able to move? He thought. After a long thought Kaik remembered what doll makers do for joints. Now the only question remaining was if he could manage to do that technique successfully. Kaik looks toward the door. No choice he thought. Kaik leaves his doll behind and goes out outside looking for anything he needs.
Kaik returns home his creation still not complete. Kaik takes out an iron drill and begins drilling holes at the bottoms and tops of most of the pieces. Using his dagger he cuts off a part of some rope and then cuts it small enough to fit through the holes made.Surely this will work...hopefully He puts away the drill and extra rope in favor of his carving axe. He begins with the legs and works his way up trying to create a ball-socket design. He makes the tops of the legs the ball while making the hip the socket. The arm piece's top the ball and the shoulder the socket. This same method was used for all joints in the body. Creating this was made easier with the new axe as well as the fact that he was simply making curves, nothing too intricate involved.
With the hip-socket designs complete Kaik simply had to string together the parts using the cut rope. Using a nail and hammer Kaik pounds the rope in its place at the top of both feet then pull the ropes all the way through body parts to the bottom of the head which is also nailed in. The same process is done for the hands. Kaik decides to nail in all the joints through the sides, so the body is more secure. He checks the body once more making sure everything is in place and the body parts are secured to one another. Kaik stands up to look at the just about finished body. He begins laughing, "Not too bad...though I can't fix that scar on your face, sorry about that...you need a name!...how about...Arya? hmm I suppose that will do." |

A slight grin appears on Kaik's face "Arya..." For once in a long time Kaik felt a sliver of happiness. Then memories of Ellen seemed to flood into Kaik, his heart began to ache. Sadness seemed to overtake him as tears begin falling upon Arya What am I doing...I thought...why am I?... Before he knew it his body was on the floor, his arms trying to hide his eyes. I miss you so much, Ellen why did you have to-...ah I need to...finish Arya He gets back up looking at Arya "Sorry about that..." He says softly. Trying to pull himself together he begins to work on Arya.
With most of Arya's body complete all that was left to do was to give her the ability to hear and see. Kaik knew giving Arya the ability to speak was a wonderful idea, however he had no idea how it could be done. He knew it could be done or he wanted to believe it could be done, all the books he has read have hinted at the prospect. Unfortunately he gives up on the idea, but tells himself he would pursue the idea another time.
Kaik looks through his backpack for the leather and glass balls. Starting with the glass balls he puts them in the eyes sockets. He takes out his carving axe and makes a few more adjustments in order to keep the eyes in place. Satisfied the eyes were in place he moves on to the leathers. He continues to use his carving axe to cut the leather into a small enough pieces to fit into Arya's ears. Putting the leftover leather aside he thins the leather as much as he can. With this done the thinned leather pieces were inserted inside the ear holes created using the drill. Kaik uses his wrist blade to help push the leather inside the ear. Tired Kaik lies on the ground beside his creation. Almost...almost he thought to himself.
The final step, the animation. Having done this step numerous times Kaik felt certain he could do this, however unlike the other times he intended to make Arya much more complex then the previous creations. He first begins by carving a basic animation circle on the floor, using his dagger. Arya is placed in one circle while he stands on the other. Kaik takes long breathes, calming himself, and clearing his mind. Ready to begin the first sitting he uses his wrist knife to poke his pinkie and lets the blood drop unto the circle, starting the animating process.
He closes his eyes imagining who he was. He thought of what made him who he was. What made him tick. He then pictures the shell of Arya, altering the image to that of a beautiful young girl with brown hair and eyes. Kaik opens his eyes ending the information exchange. The first sitting is complete. The base of Arya's identity, soulcore, has been created. With the first sitting complete Kaik was free to move around. He stretches his arms and legs while looking toward the bed but disregards the thought. No time for rest he thought. Kaik walks back into the circle, ready for the next sitting.
Time to create a persona. Kaik closes his eyes and first begins by transferring the concepts of a name. He begins by imagining Arya standing in front of him, he starts of by telling her the function of a name and it's usage. He then points at her saying Arya even writing it on a piece of paper and showing her. Kaik points at himself at says his own name and proceeds to write it on paper. Although useless to show her the writing, because she can't read, it was more helpful to Kaik with teaching the concepts of names. Kaik clears his mind once more creating an empty, black void. He believed it was time to establish directives.
The first and most important directive Kaik wanted to create was loyalty. He starts by sending memories of himself following his parent's orders. He recalls memories of doing chores or delivering packages to customers. He remember making a promise to Ellen that no matter what he would stay by her side...an image of himself standing next to Ellen as she slept holding unto his hand appeared. Believing the the concept was understood Kaik said the directive aloud "You will do as I command above all directives" Saying the directive aloud was not necessary but it helped Kaik establish the directive inside his head.
The second directive was self-preservation. Kaik starts off by teaching the concepts of violence and danger. He creates images of men fighting each other, bandits killing a women, and of a man hitting his son till he was bloody and bruised. Another image appears this time of Arya and a man, with him lying on the ground. Kaik taps Arya's back who then kills the man by a stab to the stomach. Kaik still felt he needed to teach the concept more and so created a scene where two men and a women are holding weapons and Arya has nothing. He imagines Arya running in the opposite direction of the three strangers and into his arms. Feeling Arya understood the concepts Kaik spoke the second directive "If you are in danger run away from the danger and find me," He said, "if I tap your back while in the presence of danger, kill danger." With those last words, the second phase is done.
Kaik was once again free to leave the circle. He looks at Arya wondering if he was doing the animation correctly. Looking at Arya did not give him the answer but he knew that soon enough he would find the answer. |

Creating a great golem required an equal amount of time and effort Kaik was glad to give. He would need it for the next two steps that were nothing but time and effort. A few steps into the animation circle and the process begins again.
Besides the directives other information must be given in order to develop the intelligence of the golem. Kaik began by teaching Arya reading and speech. Next came teaching how to fight. Kaik was not skilled in art of war, but he at least knew how to swing a sword transferring his knowledge to Arya.
Next came emotions. Kaik's skill in animation was good but even he knew that to pull off complex emotions would take a master animator, and he was no master. At the very least he wanted to install emotions he knew he could manage. The basic emotions Kaik wanted Arya to know were anger, fear, joy, and sadness. Using his past made teaching Arya all four emotions simple, however things were not so easy on Kaik. Memories of Ellen's smile, the day his mother left, and the beatings all too vivid for Kaik. After finishing the memory transfer Kaik falls unto his bed, his eyes still open. How long am I going to let this go on? His hand reaches for the ceiling as his eyes stare at the ring given to him just before Ellen's death. Looking from his window he could see it was dark out, Arya was almost finished. With the last of his energy Kaik enters the animation circle one last time.
The final step was shaping the astral body. Creating a humanoid golem had its drawbacks, teaching Arya to walk would be no simple task. Kaik planned to leave teaching her movements for the end. For now he would teach her how to use her eyes and ears. Kaik found the easiest way to do this was imagine himself as Arya. In his mind he created a rough replica of Lhavit during the night. He stood in place and watched using Arya's eyes the sights Lhavit had to offer. After this he imagined Arya closing her eyes, creating the bustling sound of the city around her. With eyesight and hearing complete it was time to teach her the final step, movement.
Kaik uses Lhavit once again as the setting, this time imagining himself holding Arya's hand as they move through the crowds. Arya fell several times during this walk through the streets and Kaik caught her each time and they continued to walk. The two browse through stalls Kaik allowing Arya to try to hold and touch the wares. Arya drops the first dozen items, but eventually begins to hold the items without accident. Kaik and Arya begin to run to no particular spot, Kaik was leading as Arya was lagging behind, still she managed to keep up with Kaik. Kaik stops, trying to catch his breath as his own creation runs ahead of him, Arya stopping to look at him with a quizzical look. He walks over to Arya and pats her head "Time to wake up Arya" the dream ends, as does the animation.

Kaik opens his eyes. His creation still lays on the ground motionless. Did I...fail? Just then the doll begins to rise. He continues to watch as his creation begins to pick herself up from the ground. She stumbles but regains her footing. Scanning the room she spots Kaik. He couldn't understand how he knew but it felt like Arya was smiling beneath that emotionless face. Arya begins walking toward Kaik, he smiled all the while. Arya now stood closely to her creator, looking up into his eyes. Kaik did the same as he looked down on his creation, except he placed his hand on her head. "Hello Arya, my name is-" He is interrupted as she wraps her hands around him Why is she? Arya looks up at him quizzically. He begins smiling at his creation, as he pats her head. His attempt at creating a humanoid golem was a success. |
