One by one lights begin to shimmer to life until the city began to glow under the night sky. It was breathtaking, but for Kaik it was nothing but an every day sight. On top of his house Kaik sat staring at the city as Ellen sat behind him painting. "Hey Ellen, you know what's so special about this city? I just can't see why people think it's so beautiful," Kaik said glancing over to Ellen, "whatcha painitng?" Ellen smiles and continues painting. Kaik begins to stand up but then Ellen waves him down. He does as Ellen wants and stays sitting on the ground. "You done with that painting yet?" Kaik said yawning. Ellen looks at her painting one last time, satisfied she calls Kaik over.
The painting was made using black and white colors, recreating the scene of Kaik sitting and staring at the city. "Wow..." Kaik said. Ellen chuckles "Worth the wait?" She said. Kaiks begins laughing in response "Of course!" he said confidently. Ellen takes in the view of the city, smiling as she answers Kaik's previous question "Lhavit it-...I have lived here for my entire life and it still looks just as dazzling as the first time I saw it." Kaik still couldn't understand the allure of the city, he switches his view of the city to Ellen. Her blonde hair flowed with the wind while her blue eyes gave a feeling of warmth. Having known Ellen for most of his life, he knew she thought of him as as brother...he didn't want that. He knew if he waited too long to tell her his feelings than some other guy would snatch her away.
Kaik snaps out of his trance when Ellen started to pack up her painting and tools in her bag. He decided that today he would tell her. "Hey Ellen..." he said softly. Ellen looks at him "Hm? Something wrong?" nervously Kaik said, "Oh! Nothing!...it's just...well I just..er..." Ellen waited patiently for him to say something, making Kaik feel even more nervous. "I-I I...l-l-l-ov-lov-...love the weather today!"
Kaik felt like slapping his spineless self repeatedly. Ellen murmurers something, Kaik didn't catch that as he looked at the ground disappointed. Ellen sighs and raises her voice a little more, Kaik was in his own little world at this point not noticing Ellen's annoyance rising. Ellen spoke loud enough for Kaik to take notice "Ah! Jeez! If you won't say it I will!" Kaik looked up confused only until she said it. "I love you!" She yelled out, grabbing Kaik by the shirt she forced a kiss.
He stood dazed trying to comprehend what just happened. Ellen bravely continued to keep her eyes on Kaik, her face bright red. "I-I-I I love you too!" Kaik yelled out just as loud as Ellen. For the two of them it was the beginning of something wonderful, a bond lasting even in death.
The next few days went by as the two grew even more attached to each other...today would be the most important factor in Kaik's life.
A sudden knocking could be heard from the front entrance of Kaik's house. He opens the door and is greeted by Ellen.
"Hey! Wanna go to the park?" she asked cheerfully. "Sure, but don't you think it's a bit early though?" he said. Ellen continued to smile as she grabbed his hand and ran for Ahleas Park. He couldn't help but notice Ellen's hand trembling as they ran.
Entering the park visitors crowded the trails all around. Grumbling she says, "Argh...we need to find a more secl-...perfect!" she leads Kaik a distance away from the people to a more secluded area.
Confused he asks, "Is something wrong?"
"No...nothing wrong, just embarrassing you know? Here." She hands him a silver ring, "it's a gift! Something to remember me by...Kaik...I love you...please...always stay by my side." Kaik responded, worried something happened to her, "I...I love you too...I promise, I will stay by your side no matter what!" She smiles somberly, "I'm so happy...so very...very happy." The rest of the day was spent having fun in the park.
Kaik escorted Ellen back home when the moon was almost visible.
A distance away from her house she asked a question, "Um...could you spend the night with me?" he grew red in response, "I- er...that is...mayb-, no wait...I-" she punches him in the shoulder.
"Idiot! I didn't mean it like that!...it's just...could you hold my hand till I go to sleep?"
Kaik laughed at his mistake and says "Of course!"
Ellen enters the house while Kaik climbed through a window to her room. Ellen enters her own room, Kaik stood nervous. Climbing into her bed she holds out her hand, Kaik took it and waited awkwardly sitting on her bed. She was the first to speak, "You've always kept your promises for as long as I've known you" he smiled and said, "And for as long as I've known you, you have always a kept a smile." she grins, "Heh...it's what I'm good at!"
The moon was high in night now, it's light illuminating the entire city. Once he was sure she was asleep he left. Ellen, however was not asleep. She did her best to fool him, but she didn't have the strength to continue. She begun hacking up blood. Pain filled her entire body. He soul seemed break off piece by piece till it was nothing but ashes. Even through it all she smiled, it was what she was good at. |
